Which car. Any car enthusiasts here?

Hey thanks guys, I was actually looking at some CPO's, it is a bit more $$ but with a bmw cpo it comes with a 6 year/160,000km warrenty.... that sounds pretty good to me!

CPO's can come with notable extra warranty for free. Worth considering for sure, though there won't be any good deals. One may be able to find a used car that rocks with transferable extended warranty to save that premium cost and get the extra coverage. I don't know how common that is but I have it.

Beyond that, consider this.... my car is now two years old and I can sell if for what it was new MSRP. How often does one hear that? Crazy stuff, but true. Amazing, compared to my other ownership experiences.

Here are a few examples

While this car appears to be out of your price range, I'd suggest looking for cars in your price range that aren't depreciating, or aren't depreciating any more at this time.

Yeah, ok.

Majority of prices on Auto Trader are the sellers dreamer prices. Especially the private ads.

Anybody who gets roped in to paying the same price for a 2 year old car as a "new MSRP" is simply a fool.

Not these ones. At least for out west. I'm not familiar with the ON and QC market for these cars, but out west it is very hot and resale values are crazy and strong (good for me since I own one). Prices out east seem lower, but still very strong.

Back when the car was available new (in limited supply) one dealer out west had their last Golf R for sale new for $11,000 over MSRP, it sold. Here are more examples of high used Golf R prices from last summer, both above MSRP. And the lower priced car mentioned in the link had significant 'issues'. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthre...ada-Thread&p=82141598&viewfull=1#post82141598 I haven't even seen a used Golf R price out west for the last six months to get an updated comparison until I found the mentioned earlier.

Very few of these cars have gone up for sale used out west, and never last long. A few months ago using a quick basic search I found three used MKVI Golf R's for sale across Canada. Using the same type of search now I get around 14 across Canada. Not very many of these cars for sale across the country at all. Only one is currently for sale in western Canada. Dealers out west have been importing many used ones from the eastern provinces and that last link is another recent example.

Anybody who gets roped in to paying the same price for a 2 year old car as a "new MSRP" is simply a fool.

I wouldn't do it, though such a simplistic statement shows you obvious don't know squat about the R and its situation. Supply and demand is the basic economic principle in action, with lots people willing to spend the money.

Anyway, the point to the OP, is that there are cars out there that hold their resale much better than others. Do the research and see if you can find one you like.

Mercedes ML(?)... "it was a great vehicle until the turbo went on it. $8000 later, I sold it off and bought a vehicle with a normally aspirated engine"

Mercedes ML.... led DRL (just a silly strip of led light at the bottom front of the vehicle) .... "a stone hit it, they want $550 for a new one"

Mercedes E550..... $300+ for an oil change.

MB dealerships expensive? Nah.

How much different would the price be on a certified pre-owned? Might save you a lot of headache in the long run.

Just make sure you're actually getting a Certified Pre-Owned. The WRX I bought from Subaru Brampton met all the criteria and I swore it was a CPO. Ran into some problems later and reviewed the fine print on my sales documents. Nope. That's what I get for trusting a dealership and not reading my paperwork properly. Ongoing investigation with Subaru corporate into my problems with that dealership but I haven't heard anything from them for months now so I don't think they're gonna help me out.

Last time I tried they said they needed more time to investigate. That was months ago. Subaru has probably lost a customer for life.

What was wrong with the car?

Needed new rotors 3 days after I got it. Had clutch issues. Kind of still does. A second dealer said it should have been replaced but Subaru Brampton just said it was normal. Difficulty going into reverse. Not really huge things but to find out I had no warranty after paying inflated dealer price for the car was irritating, to say the least.

^ not sure what was up with your rotors, but I doubt your car should have been safetied if you needed new ones right after you bought it. Might want to look in to screwing with them through MTO or who ever handles the safety cert.

Minimum thickness is generally stamped on them. Get digital caliper & measure the thickness

They claimed the thickness was fine but they were heat warped. Blamed me and claimed I must've taken it to a track. It was ridiculous. I just didn't notice because I drove the car very gently when I first got it. Once I applied the brakes even moderately instead of softly I noticed the steering shake. Haven't had a problem on the new rotors and I've put on almost as many km as it had when I bought it and I drive hard so previous owner must've abused it somehow.

Some rotors & pad can become seized when parked untouched for a long time. Not defending them

It doesn't matter why they were warped. What matters is they were warped when I bought the car and they both refused to cover them and accused me of doing it by racing the car.

They said they were blue from over heating. Not sitting.
