What's going on with #StopAsianHate?

From what I have seen so far on the Atlanta shootings (which are one of the issues at hand here), I think it is first a crime against sex workers, racial motivation is not the main factor here--maybe not at all.

We have to read between the lines and take a look at the signs etc. of these spas/massage parlours. They are actually rub and tugs. The guy had issues with constantly going (sex addiction), something made him snap--his target was the sex workers IMO. Maybe jh was in love with one (or more) of them and could not handle it? The media (left and right) are dancing around the sex worker issue. Yet violence against sex workers is a very real and serious issue that needs to be discussed and addressed.

Now did he have some racial bias, maybe but then why was he always going if he hated Asians (although there could also be some deep phsyc analysis...)? Now the racial elephant in the room, with such a small percentage of the local population why are so many sex workers Korean? Who are they working for, how are they getting to this point and who did it to them? Are they there willingly?

I was thinking it was more "opium in in one hand and an armada of gun ships"

Eh.....?

I'll be doing some history research later =/

I didn't know about the opium.

Opium and tea were the fruits of that British conquest. Opium and heroin were actually very acceptable at one time.

Good job making it to page 2 on this thread GTAM.

As for my personal perspective, often people attack those that work harder and are more successful than they are. I don't like it but it is a repeating scenario with different races/religions being targeted at various times/locations. Add in the "china-virus" and the moron in chief whipping things up and it just makes it worse. The persecuted group has trouble fighting back against the hoard as they rarely receive much government support. In the past, they have moved to theoretically more tolerant places but given time, the pattern repeats everywhere unfortunately.

NOT to the Chinese in the late 19th century. They fought wars against the Brits ramming opium down their throats... hence the "Opium wars".
The Brits wanted tea, but the Chinese didn't want to sell it to the Brits... so the Brits subjugated Indians to grow opium which they poured into China.

I think Chinese were also natural opium addicts due to culture, to add to the issue.

Quick Google about opium shows positive societal views dating back to 1483.

I think most of your "positive societal views dating back to 1483" come from the west, if you asked the Chinese you might get a different answer.
I can't see how the Chinese are more "natural opium addicts" than anyone else.

My views are probably Western-washed admittedly.

natural opium addicts?? first time I heard this!!! ....Obviously Google has answers to everything.

My wording is a bit off so let me give some context....

Marijuana is addictive to many people (myself included.) However, because Western society is ignorant to MJ's true addictive properties, due to prior lack of research, there is little hard evidence to back it up. Combine this with a positive societal view of MJ and a bunch of ignorants screaming "MJ is not addictive", Western society at a whole is susceptible to being "naturally addicted" to MJ.

My impressions from business stories in Hong Kong and Taiwan is that the more money you make, the more cocaine, heroine, and hookers you're gonna see. I recall reading China had to remove a job posting that advertised "we will give you an escort for a day as a sign on bonus." But as pointed out....I am quite ignorant about this since I live in Canada.

One could also play with the above via genetics (hence why not all who drink turn into alcoholics) but that wasn't my intention. ****** wording is ******.

The way I see it is a lot of this asian "hate" comes from the belief that asia is "stealing" jobs from the west.
A lot like Britain did in the first industrial revolution or like the US after WW2.

NEWS FLASH: Nobody is stealing anything. The east is buying jobs, and paying with their labours. They're not stealing your job, they're just doing it cheaper than you are.

BUT, as a result of this shift of jobs, there have been more humans lifted out of poverty in the last 45 years than in all time before.
That crappy $12/hr job you lost to China is feeding a family of 7, paying for school for their kids and MAYBE even getting grandma the insulin she needs.

... and SORRY if you live in North America and you're losing your job to a guy that has never gone to school and has never seen a computer: You are the problem.

On this topic, with family in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Toronto, yeah, racism against Asians is real in Canada. As a whole, we(overgeneralizing) don't complain about it, and socioeconomically, aren't affected as badly as some other visible minorities. It's there though in other ways.

I grew up in a non-Asian community in Toronto and it was very prevalent. Some of my cousins in Winnipeg have it the worst. They are biracial and often get mistaken as Indigenous. Yeah...

Vancouver has had a lot of it too lately. It's the perfect storm over there. The housing/rent situation has been a problem for years and driving up resentment.

Violent crime is there too. It's probably even more under-reported. There hasn't been any organized advocacy before and this hashtag is the only thing I've ever seen with any sort of national traction.

I've been told before that if I open my eyes real wide, nobody would notice the difference.

Just sos ya know:
Marijuana was a Mexican slang word for CANNABIS. It was called Marijuana because the 1930s US government wanted to associate cannabis use to Mexicans and blacks so to brand Mexicans and blacks as bad people. (watch Reefer Madness)
The stuff is called CANNABIS not marijuana. Calling it marijuana is perpetuating the discrimination.

Cannabis IS psychologically addictive
Opium is physically addictive
Quitting weed makes you anxious and uncomfortable.
Quitting opium make you sick. REAL SICK.

100%

COVID just put more fuel on the fire

I think it is because a lot of Asians here are better off compared to other minorities and our culture so there isn't a movement like BLM

Racism against Asians in Canada pre-dated outsourcing and some of those 50+ year old reasons are still here today.

Cannabis IS psychologically addictive

Gonna say you're very likely missing a physiological element as well from personal experience. My emotions flatline after a binge use of weed (generally 2 days of being high), indicating that my endocrine system is shot/****** up. My emotions return in a day. So there's definitely a physiological aspect (aka. physical.)

I'll wait for the official research before I start screaming I'm right though lol

I'll stick to call it Mary Jane, cannabis, or "the thing that causes limp dick" lol didn't know marihuana itself was a racist term.
