What's going on with #StopAsianHate?

I've been told before that if I open my eyes real wide, nobody would notice the difference.

Been told to go back to China.

When I was dating a Russian model, some random redneck stereotypes (sorry, have to for this one), drove into the parking lot and yelled "EWWWWWWWWW, HE'S A CHINK." Said model kissed me right there on the spot though; I was ready to throw down, she probably saved me in hindsight lol

My father would arrive at photography spots early and was told, multiple times, by racists to move because that's their spot. My father did not realize he was being bullied until later.

My mother was taken advantage of during a car accident. She could not speak English and is generally submissive. The other person blamed her. I watched the dash cam footage and called the jack ass back. His first response was "wow, I didn't know you guys could speak English."

A good friend of mine was told, during elementary school, by another friend that "I can't be friends with you because you're yellow." I found out about this 20 years later. This was the most painful story I've heard by far because that child was not inherently racist, his ******* parents were.

100%

COVID just put more fuel on the fire

I think it is because a lot of Asians here are better off compared to other minorities and our culture so there isn't a movement like BLM

That video you sent explains that =(

It also explains why so many Asians that moved here, during a certain timeline, were pretty well off. I don't agree with letting a bunch of troublemakers/negative throughputs in though, just to be clear lol

Many parallels with my experiences. Not so on the Russian model though. Good job on that one!

My mom had a similar incident. 3 car pileup on the Gardiner some 20 years ago. Slowing traffic and 3rd car pushed her into the car in front. 3rd car's driver stated that my mom crashed into the car infront first and they couldn't stop in time. Insurance was going to accept that as the facts till the driver of the car in front set the record straight. Language barrier and meekness definitely played a role as well.

Cannabis is addictive, though not everyone who uses it will develop an addiction.

Let's go to the primary sources shall we https://www.nap.edu/resource/24625/Cannabis_chapter_highlights.pdf and https://www.who.int/substance_abuse/publications/msbcannabis.pdf

Both just says if you use it a lot you might have issues

Well duh

tldr: weed being a gateway drug is a lie

Also if you get caught with weed in countries like South Korea you are done for

Until the research comes out, we don't entirely know how weed works on the body (physiologically.)

I have many friends though who've openly admitted to weed withdrawals making them angry/annoyed at tiny things. That's a pretty big tell (similar to caffeine being addictive for some; it isn't for me, at all.)

I was at the mall on Three Rd in Richmond,BC and I was told to go to a "white" mall.
I LOLed...
As it turns out they weren't joking and three guys threatened me.

Weird as I lived iust around the corner.

Wait...what? Inverse racism doesn't help either if that's what that was =/

We traveled through Africa by motorbike for a year and half, with extended stays in a few countries.

Lived in Zambia for a couple of months and on one of my routine grocery shopping runs, the checkout lady (she was black, if that needed any clarification - I was the only non-black person in the store at the time) asked me a question about my groceries, I can't even remember what it was, but she said it very slowly and was careful to enunciate every word.

So I just answered her normally, didn't speak slowly to match the way she asked her question or anything.

She says to me, "Oh, your English is very good!"

Without missing a beat, and with a big smile on my face I replied, "Thanks! So is yours!"

She just stared back at me with a confused look on her face. Then she starts laughing. Then I start laughing.

Before this thread gets too heavy, just thought I'd relay this nice shared moment.

Just sos ya know:
Marijuana was a Mexican slang word for CANNABIS. It was called Marijuana because the 1930s US government wanted to associate cannabis use to Mexicans and blacks so to brand Mexicans and blacks as bad people. (watch Reefer Madness)
The stuff is called CANNABIS not marijuana. Calling it marijuana is perpetuating the discrimination.

Cannabis IS psychologically addictive
Opium is physically addictive
Quitting weed makes you anxious and uncomfortable.
Quitting opium make you sick. REAL SICK.

well before this you have hashish.....the word assassin comes from hashishin from the Middle East which means hashish eater.

Was it this Russian model? ?

From what I have seen so far on the Atlanta shootings (which are one of the issues at hand here), I think it is first a crime against sex workers, racial motivation is not the main factor here--maybe not at all.

We have to read between the lines and take a look at the signs etc. of these spas/massage parlours. They are actually rub and tugs. The guy had issues with constantly going (sex addiction), something made him snap--his target was the sex workers IMO. Maybe jh was in love with one (or more) of them and could not handle it? The media (left and right) are dancing around the sex worker issue. Yet violence against sex workers is a very real and serious issue that needs to be discussed and addressed.

Now did he have some racial bias, maybe but then why was he always going if he hated Asians (although there could also be some deep phsyc analysis...)? Now the racial elephant in the room, with such a small percentage of the local population why are so many sex workers Korean? Who are they working for, how are they getting to this point and who did it to them? Are they there willingly?

Maybe the guy ran out of money therefore no honey. Maybe he got weird and they turfed him. Nature vs nurture with his brain development. I would be shocked if there weren't hundreds of conflicting opinions on the subject and all by intelligent people. The brain isn't a simple chunk of meat. It won't be resolved on GTAM.

GG commented that people attack the successful. That could get worse if snob attitudes from advertising increase. If a person isn't a hunk or a babe they get turned down. If the pursuer isn't a 10 why do they expect to catch a 10?

If a person is doing a 5 job why do they expect a 10 car?

bitzz's comments on China and the transfer of jobs doesn't mention the point that the US didn't have to open the doors. I'm pretty sure the US factory workers didn't say "Send my job to China so we can open more dollar stores" It was the wealthy that saw it as a financial move. The pro big business brain washing has a lot of people bashing in the wrong direction.

A large percentage of the western world grew up under some form of protectionism and rested on their laurels. Suddenly they have to make a come back, they don't have the momentum and don't have the long term staying power. A 70 year old can't truly advise his kid because it's something that he never went through and the 40 year old offspring can only pray for his kids.

People want to be lied to. No politician will get elected if he says "The good days are gone. We will have to work harder and do with less." He won't get any business support either because a turn to austerity would destroy the consumer market. The economy has no reverse gear.

Visible minorities will continue to be attacked either physically or socially because they are visibly different. Ten white guys are lined up with one Asian and a job is lost by a white guy. Who does the loser point the blame at? "It was probably the Asian because you know what they're like." That will continue until us whiteys accept the truth. White privilege.

I dunno. Being bi racial has allowed me to float between many ethnic groups. I’ve found they all have their nuances, biases, stereotypes and discriminations.

I dated a girl from Trinidad who was scared to death of interactions with law enforcement, even though she had never said 2 words to a cop. It was just instilled on her growing up from friends and family that interactions with the police = bad. Full stop.

Is this fair to police? Is it fair to her?

The cultural issues prevalent today extend far beyond simply whites and our/their supposed privileges. The world has become a far smaller place in a few decades and i think as a society we’re still playing catch-up

I haven't been following this story a whole lot, since COIVD started I tuned out of watching news and current events since it has been so negative.
Anyhow I did catch a bit of this anti Asian rhetoric, just nonsense, because people were posting stuff on FB. But I think this guy just helped out the community a lot, hopefully the DF's spreading hate will take notice.

Born in British Borneo, now Malaysia. Where I'm from!

Very moving.

I've watched more of the documentary vid posted on the first page.

I'm not sure if they get into this but the tone of the video is a bit too "anti white." There's a lot of "black and Asians gotta team up and destroy white supremacy." While I don't disagree with the spirit, I disagree with the target.

"White supremacy" is a really ****** term. I've seen it rip apart my fellow "white" friends internally similar to how a bunch of racist ***** caused me to ashamed of my ethnicity.

I hope the media/whatever realizes one day that what we're trying to annihilate are simply ******** who are closed minded and intolerant of those who are different. They can be Asian, white, brown, and whatever. Color of the skin doesn't matter.

EDIT: It also really doesn't help that Trump was a racist lol

I have an Asian wife, she was born in hong kong, but has been here since the early 70s when she was young. I live in a small town, and like to think its a nice area. I have seen some small stuff from kids in variety stores (Asian owned) in the past b4 covid, but noting serious. As of late, i will not let my wife go out alone, she's older and seems to be in "that age group for targets" from what i have seen.

My 2cts
Grew up in Scarborough in the 90s, could be the community but never had any issues with racism. School was fairly multicultural although neighbourhood friends I played with were white, a white neighbour gave me a cat she couldn't keep who grew up to be my best friend.
Sad to hear all the terrible experiences some have had even in Canada.

Racism and violence is all terrible, but people need to stop generalizing and hating on specific groups. There's racists and psychos in every colour, sex, and motorcycle preference.
Every time there's a hate crime, media loves pulling up all the news and jumping on bandwagons for views.
There's ****** people in this world, we just need to focus on the individuals. Raise your kids right, educate your friends and circles, use your votes and money for the right things.

Also, just this past week, knife attack in BC leaving one dead. Somehow, was not even on CP24 or front page news. Why? Didn't fit the ongoing asian hate narrative.

I’ve got the same situation.
