What kinda boots do you wear?

I wear the Original Swat boots...

doubt they'll offer much protection if i go down, but i have no choice... Size 15 wide

the boots are super comfortable and very light

I bought SIDI ST air in march. The only reason I went with this is because i have big calves and it's the only one that fits.
It's replacing my icon superduty 3. There's nothing wrong with them but I just wanted more protection.

The a* smx are good boots. I would have bought those but they dont fit my calves. Dayton makes some nice looking boots, but as far as safety goes, i dunno.

you said for dual sport...? only thing i can tell you is definitely get something that covers the shins. Dont go with ankle boots for dual riding as the dust will only find its way into your feet, not to mention the shin protection issue. Dont bother with Gore TEX unless you know you'll be faced with muddy/wet conditions often. Gore TEX dont breath too well so they get hot as someone mentioned.

When it comes to bike gear it's all up to the rider and how much risk you want to take. much like a jacket where you can go squid or full on protection, the same apply for boots. you can go sneakers to racer boots and anything in between. It's what's most important to you. Safety, comfort, style... etc etc. The main important thing is the ability to work the rearsets.

Personally, i wanted to be safe so I bought the SIDI after buying the superduty.
If you want a second pair for walking about the city and riding the superduty are good for that. You can buy them off me. =) size 8. they're in good condition. PM me for photo and we'll talk price I want to get rid of them so it will be a low price. ha!

Booting around, commuting. Alpinestar Ridge.

Offroading, longer tours FOX Comp 5's

Sidi, Oxtar (TCX), Gaerne, Spidi. Depends on which bike I'm riding that day.

Used to have Alpinestars but I've found their quality to be lacking. Also tried Puma 2000 but they weigh about as much as a concrete block. Similar comfort, too. :D

Too many to list...

Q:
What is a good boot for long-distance touring - especially in terms of reducing vibrations through the pegs?

That's on my wish-list...

I use Puma Desmo GTX for touring and find them to be very comfortable. They are "waterproof" (Goretex membrane) and you can walk in them. The soles are fairly thin (they are riding boots, not adventure boots) and I don't have a vibration issue on the BMW but I think they'd work well for you. I got mine for a good price last year from GP Bikes.

Boots? I have thick skin. :lmao:

Seriously though:
Gaerne - They are fantastic, on and off the bike.

Puma's - Just bought these for the street. Fit awesome, but no riding reviews.

I'm seeing a lot of props for the S-MX 5 boot, I like that.

Skyway6, this looks very similar to the ST Vented boot they carry. Don't know if you've had the chance to ride in them, but how does the ankle support seem to be on your boot? I've got glass ankles, and I insist on a tall boot with strong bracing.

I'm new to the motorcycle scene and looking for a pair of affordable, comfortable, safe motorcycle boots for dual-sporting. Some recommend boots from Marks Work Warehouse or Canadian Military Issue Gore-Tex Combat boots. Others say go with a certified motorcycle boot even though they are not comfortable, but for safety, like these: http://www.alpinestars.com/Web_Goretex_Boot/pd/np/113/p/233507.html

So what kinda boots do you wear?

I have a pair of the Web Goretex boots. Once they wear out, I'll probably replace them with the same. 4 years of commuting and touring on them, still waterproof, and pretty comfy too.

There are boots that offer better protection, but it depends on what type of riding your doing. I only have a 15 minute commute to/from work, and I ride in all weather from mid-March to mid-December, and the WGT's have held up very well!
