For that price you could have bought a 250cc bike. If you wanted a 125cc, you should've bought a CBR125R for like $1500 with less than 3000km for $1500.

but the Aprilia is a 2 stroke and way more fun than a cbr 125.

Exactly. I wanted something fun and unique. Not something like an Echo.

I've considered getting the CBR or a Grom as something to destroy in the winter. Want something cheap and uninspired to destroy from repeated drops.

I mean its got 20% more HorsePonies and double the torque of a CBR125R but still they're almost half of a 250cc bike.

How much is insurance?

Sounds like you've got a lot of money to spend. Do you still enjoy riding it? I was disappointed in mine after the first week.

I do enjoy riding it but I also think there's more fun to be had with vehicles other than just going really fast.

Insurance is around $50/month which saves me about $100 per month.

I actually bought the bike to save on gas and insurance. Forking over too much to the insurance company for 2 cars and a bike in downtown. Plus the payments on my WRX are over $460/month.

Street Long Distance: BMW 1150RT. Upright position. Cargo. Passenger friendly

City: BMW CS650. Great low gearing. Nimble.

Track: R6. Great track bike that is versitile for shorter or longer tracks if you can keep the front end in place

Trail: WR450 Yamaha. Power when I need it. Reliable. Heavy to bounce off the rocks along the way

....cause she's dead sexy.

CBR250R because it's cheap on gas, cheap on insurance, and gets the job done. It's helped me learn to ride while being forgiving, and get better with each outing.

Up to 20k already and hoping to add another 10k this season, unless magically I come into some extra cash and upgrade the bike to a Honda 500 or a Kawi 650R.

2010 ninja 250 for commuting, for being able to enjoy using all six gears, and for helping the gf learn to ride.
2011 monster 796 for fun, for releasing the inner hooligan in me, and for when I just want to hear a beautiful sound :)

ST1100 - Entered under "Other" because there was no sport touring category.

Great bike, bullet-proof engine, shaft drive, smooth, powerful and can go over 450 km on a tank of gas. I have just over 150k on this bike and still look for any excuse to take a short 300 km ride. Maintenance basically consists of oil changes every 10k and tire replacement every 15-20k. I also hate polishing chrome, so this bike is perfect for me.

Rode over a pothole a couple weeks ago and got sacked pretty badly. Not even riding a supersport it was a Ninja 400. What a dreadful experience which probably would have been much worse on a more aggressive style bike.

you'd get sacked on anything...

put your weight on the pegs and off the seat.

I tried it was too late, sneaky bastard was incognito until my front tire rolled over it and further translated that energy to the marbles.

SS has better suspension than the Ninja 400/650 (same bike) so an SS may have actually been smoother. Maybe not, though, since they're also pretty stiff.

I currently ride a 2001 Honda CB750 Nighthawk. I used to ride more powerful and better handling motorcycles, but 90%+ of my riding day entails straight lines, traffic, and commuting. In those cases, an upright riding position is king! I also enjoy old school looks and near-zero maintenance! Progressive springs, SS Supertrapp exhaust, and a Corbin seat, and I want for nothing. Wait... not true... I want a 1970 or 71 Honda CB750 in original, unrestored condition. Do they exist? :)

Why not a naked/standard category?

150,000 KM ??

Impressive. Engine still not tired yet?

I ride a 2012 Suzuki V-Strom DL650. It currently has 82,000 km and as two years old March 12th. Didn't get any riding in from December until about a week ago so the mileage was in about a year and 8 months. It replaced a 2006 Suzuki DL650 V-Strom that I bought new in July of 2006. It had 202,000 km on it when I retired it. (I still have it but don't ride it.)

I like the V-Stroms as they are pretty much universal bikes that do everything very well. They are great Commuter bikes, Great Touring bikes (longest trip I did was 10,300 km in 10 days), great back-road bikes, great bikes on the twisties, comfy on gravel, comfy on the highways, not afraid of a few bumps. They are ugly enough that you don't have to worry about trying to make them look pretty.

They are not the best at any one thing but just the kind of bike that does what you want so well you forget about the bike and it's just you riding.

You guys really push the envelope! The Suzuki 650 twins are pretty impressive little units. I loved the motor on my SV1000.

Sounds like you should be part of a Suzuki ad campaign. Can't think of a better endorsement than an odometer that shows 202k clicks on an 8yo bike!

Well it was actually 6 years old when it got there. :) its not a biggy, on Stromtropoper there is a rider from Manitoba that has 270,000 km on his 2005 V-Strom DL650. He just got into some work inside it (I think cam chain tensioner.) Apart froom that almost no issues.

And

There is a guy with over 300,000 miles on his V-Strom DL1000! (That's about 500,000 km!) Still riidng it!
