What did you do in your garage today..?

Hmmm interesting idea. I have a spare, but if I keep having a problems with this bracket I need to figure out a longer term solution. That could be a option. Thx (y)
Drawing it would take a while. Its obviously possible but just annoying to put in all those steps and plane changes. The little mounting tabs will have strength issues as you have to rely on bonding between layers. Maybe there is more room to increase size but figuring that out takes time.

If all else fails, AliExpress...

I second the bonding issue, it might depend on what printing process you use or if you're using PLA/PETG/ABS, but there's a lot of vibration around the headlamp. There is glass-fiber reinforced filament but I don't think it's an affordable solution.

Those GD Trekkies lied to me, with their replicator nonsense...

Today:
- siphoned tank dry, forgot to add stabilizer in the fall
- trickle charged battery
- replaced electrical tape with butt connectors, and electrical tape

Since I can't find my trailer thread I had a quesiton...

I have the folding 4x8 trailer and I previously mentioned I'm not comfortable going up/down the skinny folding ramps I bought at CT.

Have a stupid idea to BUILD a ramp for it and was wondering if anyone's done something similar. I'll be upgrading the floor / sides and trying to get the lights going this month...but not sure if there's an option to build a ramp that swings down and lets the bike up?

Similar to this trailer I found on Kijiji...

This would be the better option, but my welding skills are lacking...

but where to keep it when the bike is on the trailer?

Is your bike more than 8' long? Most of those live folded up in place. Giant sail though, the holes do nothing. Expect a much harder pull. It would be an easier pull if you put the ramp into the side stake pockets but that would obviously not love crosswinds.

EDIT:
I just looked at your link. My comments still sort of apply. The other option is if the front of the bike is stable (ie chocked) you could slide the ramp under the rear tire. No wind issues and it gets strapped down with the bike.

Thanks @GreyGhost. That's one of the concerns I had with the added sail behind the bike.

Need to figure something out as I'm still not comfortable with the skinny ramps that I have.

Other option is to just sell this trailer, and buy one of those aluminum ones with a ramp already installed. But those damn things ain't cheap in any way shape or form.

Some decent weather and some time to spend in the garage. Finally got the new brake rotor installed. I took it to a guy. No heat needed, watched him remove it so I should be able to next time.

Ohh shiny!

And now this again.... stupid bracket around main headlamp broke at a different spot then last time.

JB weld to the rescue again. As you can see the opposite side is still holding on!

I may have found a replacement part for this bracket. But will try this first and see how it goes.
Save yourself work and hassle. You can get stamped steel replacements for $25, they won't fracture like the cast parts.

I use a 2x10 for my ramp and second 1x8-10? to walk up. This makes it easy to power them up.
They have a hole drilled through them and they lived bolted to the deck when not in use.

Thanks Mike, I saw something like that on Amazon, but this is an after market headlight, which they use their own bracket. I have my original one still so I will have to compare and see if I can make it work somehow.

wood or purchased? got a pic?

that sounds ideal as it would let me walk up easily and all it would take is a small piece of wood on the sides to guide the tires.

Just regular plain old (but now expensive) lumber. I don't even have guard rails on the side. 10 inches is wide enough. Going up is easy. Backing it down you have to a bit more3 careful.
I have a simple bracket on the trailer and ramp. 2x2 angle. One piece with a slot bolted to the trailer and a second short piece bolted to the ramp end such that the ramp portion slips into the slot keeping the ramp in place. My "walkwway" just lays on the trailer edge.
Big fan of the KISS principle (another reason to own a killer)

I built one for my trailer -- it's super easy - I can send you detailed pics if you need them. IMHO the one in the pic is too short, mine is 5' and that's comfortable for loading/unloading bikes. It's a simple job that will help you improve your welding too!

For material, you'll need the following:
  • 1" square tube 4 pcs equal to the length, and 2 equal to the width of your ramp
  • Expanded metal screen LxW of your ramp
  • 1 x 3/4" x 4" spanner bushing (for the left side hinge)
  • 2 x 3/4" x 6" round bar for the hinge pins
  • 2 x 3/4" x 2 round bar for the locking pins
  • 2 x 2"x 3" 3/6" plate for the locking tabs
  • 2 lock pins
  • paint
If you have access to scrap tube or channel, you could sub parts in and out. You want to keep the thing at a reasonable weight to make it easy to open/close and remove. Plus you don't want a gate/ramp eating the payload of your trailer.

Wood is another option, a handful of 2x6s, box of screws, and farm gate hinges to fix the ramp to the trailer.

Not sure what your trailer looks like, but I wonder if a pair of wheel chocks and one of these would do ya:
Amazon - Trailer Jack with Wheel 1000 Pound Capacity

Tilt the whole trailer and use it as a ramp? You could then walk it up, put it in gear (not ideal, I know) and secure it in place? Depend on where the axel is as well, that would determine the angle of the slope and if this is even doable.

End result would be something like this:

He's got something similar to the HF folding trailer. I think a canadian version though. I've never tried pulling the pins to let the deck tilt but I think it should work.

Thanks guys...

@Mad Mike yes if you've got some pics I'd love to see it

@GreyGhost had the front end pop up once and almost take my chin out...lesson learned.

@monkeyfarm this is basically the trailer I have right here...

It tilts...but it's a pretty high angle so may be a bit too much of a balancing act to get it up, wait for the trailer to tilt forward, and hold it up during the process.

@timtune If you've got a pic of the connection please share as that's the toughest part of the build I think

Tonight I have a Teams meeting for volunteer work I do. I'll be bringing my tablet into the garage while the meeting is on. I've got my priorities straight.
My iPad is dying and needs replacement...I'm going to keep it for garage duty (music / videos / tutorials / etc) as it's gotten stupidly slow.
