What did you do in your garage today..?

So I did the first thing to my bike and took apart the stock exhaust, spray painted it black and re-attached it.

The stock was silver and didnt look as nice. I followed some instructional and it went well although I was scared the whole time haha.

I forgot to take a photo before and after, which I had set out to do. Smh.

This is a photo from the other side of the bike. I was wondering, if I were to remove some of the orange stock decal stickers on the bike, so it is more grey and black, would it lose some value for resale later?

For refrance, this photo is filtered. In person, the colors on the bike are a bit softer, it does not look as sharp or dark in person.

Normal paint or the heatproof stuff? Just spraying the shroud?

It might hurt resale, it might not, it depends on the buyer. For now it's your bike, do what you like.
For what it's worth, I like the orange. It's a sharp bike.

Agree. If he wants to pull them, take a series of pictures before during and after. Easy to show potential buyers that they were pulled for aesthetic reasons not due to damage in case they ask.

I had nothing to do yesterday afternoon, so I checked the valve clearances on the Guzzi. What a pleasure to work on.

A valve adjustment on my old Tiger would require a couple of days of thought just to convince myself to do it, then a night or two in the garage. Hope I'd have the correct shims on hand. A bit of a commitment.

One hour or so on the Guzzi, and that's with beer drinking and taking my sweet time. One valve was out of spec by 0.001". Should I bother to adjust? Of course! Why? Because it's so bloody easy!

Gawd, I keep seeing this thread and it reminds me that I have to drag myself out to the garage, put away the snowblower and get the bikes ready for riding season (install fog lights, GPS mount/electronics, fairing on KTM) do general check up on Harley. Endless other chores out there. I hate this thread.

Not my garage.PIcked the grandkids up at school and took them to Mom's work garage where she has a lab.She is in peak salamander migration right now and very busy monitering endangered Jeffersons salamanders.Captures them in traps, brings them to the lab to implant gps trackers (size of a tylenol pill) into them after anesthetizing them.Last pic is injecting a dot of phos flourescent die into a couple of spots for easy night time identification.Takes 6 sutures to close them up.Kids love this stuff!

Picked up an 08" KTM 250 XCF-W, thought I got a deal, instead I got work lol... Needs some TLC, and a lot of prayers hoping the motor is okay as the previous owner said they did a full top/bottom rebuild. Being my first dirt bike, I realized when I rolled it into the truck it's at 340hrs, didn't know that considered a lot.

So far full fork rebuild, as one was leaking. Oil was years old. Have a list of things, from new shifters, fluids, plastics etc... Exhaust was also toast, so new packing on order.

Congrats!

That was my first dirt bike as well - was a 2009. A bit cold-blooded on cold starts, especially early/late season, but once it warms up, it's a beaut.

You're gonna love it!

I think 2008-2011 they remained pretty much the same. It was one of the very few, non-molested blue plated dirt bikes I found in original condition. Everything from the shifters to plastics is OEM, which is good I guess.

Thanks for the cold start info, cause when I got it, it was below 0c, and took a few kicks to start. The electric start doesn't start it either atm, owner said it was just the battery since the bike was cold and sat for a while. Need to sort that, as it was a huge plus for me

It cuts off if no gas is given, and this is my first carb'd bike. I have a KTM mechanic looking it it later on to check it all out, hopefully they are just minor adjustments

Did you check compression before you bought it? If yes, how was it?

A little tip: if you're having problems starting it cold, kick-start it *AND* hit the starter button at the same time. Doing both helps turn the engine over.

Yeah, you have to let it warm up for a few minutes. Especially on cold days. Should idle okay after it's up to operating temps.

Dumb question, but choke is on when you start it, right?

No I didn't :( Not sure if 4-strokes need to, I'll get the mechanic to check it when I get the safety done. The bike pulls strong, took it for a quick jaunt, and no oil or coolant leaks so far. It has 0 hours on the rebuild, he showed me the new parts pictures, and all got from GP Bikes/OEM. I can see the gaskets on the engine block, all new.

Will try that!

I did use the choke, at first I wasn't, and also didn't know it needs to be pulled back in when started. Since I don't have plates/ins yet, once I get the safety and a full tank of good gas, plus the battery fully charged on the tender, I'll have a better scope of it.

No reason to be sad. It's hard to check everything. If it is really soon after the rebuild (eg. not run yet), compression could change quickly as things bed in anyway. For the same reason, it may be easier to start after it runs for a few hours.

Coolant level was less than "L"
Additional coolant=lower right side fairing removal(for the most part)/installation.
Only a few choice words lol.
At least now, my ocd is not agitated when I look at the coolant level on the reservoir bottle.
Since I have a lift, thoroughly cleaned under motorcycle.
Clean and lube chain.
Took 4:20 break.

congrats on joining team orange, dont know much about performance dirtbikes, hopefully the engine is ok

Tried to book a tire change today for March 6th. Only date that worked for both of us was March 15th.

So I bought a floor jack, and a pair of jack stands. Should pay for themselves in a couple of years.

They're sitting in the garage now. I need to do something to the steel floor jack to prevent corrosion.
Will also have to see if my old breaker bar is around and not rusted out.

Have to cancel my appointment tomorrow.

How do you lift a bike with a Jack @Baggsy ? My tires came in and I’m debating taking the wheels off and just take the rims to the shop.
I don’t have the gear/skill to swap the tires and balance them.
