We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

Could you give a rough estimate on total time required to reload say 300 rounds of 9x19 ammo? Just trying to get an idea of the time involved with reloading roughly the amount I like to shoot each trip to the range

Lol long enough that you don't want what I'm selling... If you wanna do 9x19, get a 1050 and load like 1000-1500 once a month. Once you have your press dialed in, it's a nobrainer.

You can get a good single stage setup for rifle ammo for well below $500 for everything if you shop around. Progressive will run more $$$ though. Depends on whether you are looking for accuracy or speed.. It's not the price of the equipment that matters.. It's the workmanship with it.

$500 for everything? including equipment to clean the brass? I was looking at Dillon, just the loader is over $500. A guy I know on my Facebook from Indiana has a Dillon setup, he loads mostly 5.56 and he said his setup was around $5000, but he can load like 1000 rounds an hour or something stupid like that

I just looked at the post where I was asking about his loader and that is the one he has a Super 1050 8 stations, from cleaning brass to loaded he said $5400 US

I just got 2000 more rounds today, 1000 of them are Wolf TMJ, so Im going to see what all the fuss is about lol

500 for everything if you are only doing a few precision rounds at a time.. In reloading, generally the big money is on bulk speed and reliable operation, not the quality of the load.

how much do you guys save by reloading? what does it work out to per round vs buying bulk??

Johnny let me know what you think of the WOLF ammo, I got 1000 rounds of it sitting in my basement while I wait on TSC's in house safety course, and my ATT after that... I don't think I'll be shooting it any time soon.

I'll let you know, I may possibly go tomorrow or sometime over the weekend. I haven't shot too much in terms of selection, but we dont have much choice for bulk. Mostly American Eagle 124gn, Winchester, and Remington.

The ammo came packed loose in 250 count boxs, the cases seem to be all Winchester, Blazer, and Federal. I was expecting more commercial type packaging because I seen people at the range with bright yellow and orange colored WOLF labels but on smaller boxs, so maybe if you buy 50 packs they come packaged like that. Mine are just plain white boxs with a printed labels taped onto them with packing tape

Lol you don't save anything for reloading the common calibers.. I can usually source safety cartridges for less than what I'd pay for the components. Cooking your own, as long as you do it right just gives you better quality ammo, which gets important when competing. I can get decent loads with 124gr projectiles in the $200 ballpark (for 1000). But if you cook your own, you can spend about as much and get underpowered rounds with huge 147gr projectiles, which are less snappy, almost no recoil, so your followup shots are a lot faster, and speed is important in IPSC and other action shooting games. Or, for PPC you can create loads that can barely puncture the paper :D Reloading can produce huge savings for rarer calibers where you get raped up the proverbial arse and sometimes it can be the only way you can shoot some vintage guns for which ammo isn't made any more.

500-700 and your good to go, unless your going to be reloading and selling...how much do you think you need to make...I know the more the better, but 600 rounds in an hour with the RCBS should give you plenty.....

5 grand, way too much if you ask me....

.
WOLF ammo, nothing wrong with it, never had an issue with it....

I like to shoot about 300 rounds each trip to the range, and generally I like to go 1-2 times a week if I can. 600 an hour is more then enough, I just don't want to spend hours packing ammo, if it takes a lot of time then Id rather pay extra to buy ammo instead. Currently I have 4450 rounds stocked up so its not like Im short on ammo, and that should last me for a little while.

My main concern with reloading it learning to do it properly, Id only want to reload if I can do it better then factory loads. Not really for cost savings as the Wolf stuff is fairly cheap, even the factory stuff isn't that bad if I shoot 1000-2000 a month. I do not want to reload ammo like the guy who's reloads got stuck in my barrel and his own...LOL

Like most hobbies, the initial excitement wears off eventually and you stop going so often- it might not be worth the time and money invested in loading your own. I never bothered.

Get the book, read the book, follow the book, on reloading, and you will do it properly, start at factory spec, and then you go plus or minus from there until you find the right one for your firearm, it really does not take much, to see what your firearm likes or doesn't like.

For general plinking just load as per norm, for the games IPSC and so on, cook up your own and use it.

Me and my brother used to go to his shop on a Saturday, spend a morning or an afternoon, make up some ammo, and then hit the range, never made so much it was stock piled, part of reloading for us was to get together, shoot the ***** and do something we liked........we did not have one of these progressive setups it was one cartridge at a time......it was for long range shooting 1000 yards plus, so we did not need thousands of rounds, for the pistols I just purchased the WOLF stuff, then again we were not into the pistol games.

Just make up what your going to use, part of reloading, is the doing and making of the rounds.....

It's too bad, that it's such taboo to get ammo from the US........it was better in the old days, where a box of 50 rounds was like 12 bucks, bring in your 5 thousand rounds and call it a day...

I may have missed it in the 63 pages but what ranges are you guys members of? I'm in the process of trying to get in at Burlington (which doesn't look like it will happen until the spring). I'd love to hook up with someone to shoot over the winter (I'd bring my own ammo). The thought of not shooting over the winter is getting me down, so just throwing that out there if anyone was game to hook a sister up.

I may have some extra time in Canada, but need to knock off a few more people off the list, including RG lol Will keep you up to date and there's still a solid possibility you can join BRRC in a month or so, don't give up :)

Oh by no means giving up just keeping my foot in all doors. If I'm honest with myself I can shoot pretty much anytime I want to at Silverdale if I really have to but it's cold. Nikki don't do cold well. Where their is a will, there is a way.

What do you want to shoot? Your guns? Restricted or non? I take guests but they are not licensed so they shoot my guns, its $20 for a day pass for my range for a guest. If you have a non I think you can bring that and pay the $20 and shoot, if you dont you could shoot my pistols only or range guns. My range is in Stouffville

People do walk in for non restricted all the time when Im there, but you cant do that with restricted unless you already hold a LATT

If you want to get into Burlington go every time they have a class and try to get in as a walk in talking someones spot that flaked. Otherwise if you dont already have one scheduled they told me the next available would be the end of 2015! That is why I went with TargetSports, more expensive but I was in within about 2 months from signing up, and Im much like you I dont like the cold at all, so I wanted indoor with target retrieval system

I don't have an ATT for my guns (no range yet) so yes I'd be stuck shooting whatever whoever brings me as a guest will let me shoot. For me it's not really a matter of shooting my own guns but getting range time and developing good muscle memory and technics to keep me sharp Kwim? And I'm only interested in handguns at the moment. I do have my RPAL.

I'm lucky in the I am schedule for the safety course at Burlington in April so only 4 months away...I tried to get in as a walk in the other day and was unsuccessful, there was over 30 people there! Lol I had looked at target sports as they aren't that far from me but their membership is way more than I want to pay and I've got a little incentive to join Burlington over other ranges.

Well I have 3 handguns if your interested, since you have an RPAL you could shoot on your own as a guest for $20 range fee. I prefer that people use my ammo and just pay me for it, unless you have good factory ammo. Either way you pay the same price as I pay and I buy bulk so its reasonable

Burlington would be ideal for me, especially now that my friend says they have target retrieval system. Its just that I could not wait a year for a membership, and I cant be bothered to drive there every range class to maybe get in one day. TS is expensive but Im happy so far, and Im shooting now not the end of 2015. I sent an application to Burlington they took a month to get back to me saying they arent even accepting apps at that time, re submit in a month and expect a range class at the end of 2015. So I just drove to TS bought a gun and bought a range membership all in one trip there. 2 months later I was a full member and shooting. I think I will apply for Burlington soon and eventually be a member there aswell, and continue to use TS in the mean time to get my fix. It would drive me nuts to be stuck in your position waiting 4 more months to be able to shoot my own stuff

So far not impressed, the ammo functions fine but my accuracy and grouping was all over the place. I bought 250 rounds of the WOLF and 200 rounds of my usual American Eagle, both 124gr. I shot about a 100 of the WOLF and I was not accurate at all, so I switched to my American Eagle and I was good to go. I did that twice and the same result I am just shooting way more accurate and way better grouping with American Eagle and frankly shooting like crap with the WOLF. Im going back tomorrow or Sunday and I will do the same, I have 750 left of the WOLF, and if my shooting doesnt get to where it is with the American Eagle after that I wont be buying it again. $60 or so savings on 1000 rounds isn't worth it to me for what its done to my shooting so far.

This may be a combination of my gun setup or just that I am used to shooting my go to ammo, but if I cant get to where I am with the other ammo after 1000 rounds I give up on it. Tomorrow when I go back one of the range officers that does the hand gun and holster courses is going to try it back to back with my usual ammo also and see how he feels about it. I'll let you know what he thinks of it also

Good news is I tracked my holster setup package just now and its in Canada post Mississauga sort facility already all the way from the Netherlands, so it looks like I will get it on Monday. And I put myself on the list for the next holster course that will be early in the new year. The same range officer owns the CZ 75 Canadian edition and he told me its different internally then a regular 75 other then the colored parts, so hes going to bring it for me to try. It will help me make my decision on my next handgun purchase

That works too. If you don't mind hit me up with a pm and we can discuss. I only started shooting this past summer, so the whole range situation want that big of a deal to me, as I had access to a gun to shoot but it's an outdoor range so it doesn't really work for me come winter. I think I've messaged every range in the GTA. The indoor ranges are hard to come by.

good to know, I guess I wont be stocking up on it while I wait for TS to call me for the safety course, once thats out of the way and I get my ATT i'll shoot through the 1000 rounds I bought and draw my own conclusion.

I'm thinking of buying a .22 handgun to add to the Glock, GSG makes a 1911 22 tat has good reviews, there is something about 1000+ rounds for under $100 that really appeals to me. what do you guys think?
