We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

Funny thing is I had no interest in pistols until they announced this now I have 4. Oh well it should be fun going to the range.

I had a list of ones I wanted eventually. This just made me hurry up and get nearly all of them. Didn’t manage to get a Desert Eagle 50 AE as they were at insane prices, that’s the only one I missed as I wanted to reload for it. Got a few revolvers as they don’t take magazines are pretty robust plus they are more accurate for me than semi-autos. Gucci polymer 9mm, nice upper level CZ Shadow 2. Etc etc..22, 9mm and 38spl/.357mag. Reasonably cheap cartridges. I can reload 9mm (haven’t yet but I have the dies etc) and I do reload .38spl and .357. .22 is still cheap fun.

The part most disturbing for me is the minister that cited “ we got really creative , we just won’t let any import permits be processed, it’s not a ban” this is circumventing the true democratic process , bill C21 and review and reading . It’s a government moving the goal posts .
Being quoted in the news as “ we got out in front of this , we can stem the up tick in buying by just not letting any more come into the country, we will stifle the flow “
Ummm, Wtf happened to due process in parliament??

Minister Medicinio , “ we suspect most handguns sold in Canada are imported , since we don’t manufacture any here “.
That right there? That’s some clever ciphering ….

I see lots of Mexicans “importing” illegal drugs around the world too. Bit of a warping of the word.

@scuba , I agree 100% , rubbing our noses in “ look how clever we are” pisses me off beyond belief.
I usually don’t send a lot of email to MPs , I like to stay off the radar , but that has prompted several letters in the last day .

So I bought a Franchi Falconette 12g o/u on the web for skeet , it’s a late 60’s gun so first thing to go way the hard plastic butt plate , kickezz foam pad added. It still doesn’t fit perfectly some I’m going to do an adjustable comb. I’m a big nervous cutting into a vintage walnut stock but it’s not a museum piece so I think I can manage it .

An interesting opinion piece about the mechanics of this turd.

I read with amazement the article in BarrieToday concerning the federal government's plans to fast-track a ban on the import of handguns into the country without the approval of Parliament. I write this letter from the standpoint of a former Progressive Conservative Opposition house leader and, after that, a government house leader.

Much as I sympathize with the intent of the motion, I believe that it flies in the face of Parliamentary procedure and smacks of “the end result justifies the means.”

A 'regulation' in Parliamentary terms is “a rule used to carry out the intent of statutes (Acts) enacted by the Parliament of Canada.”

The current Liberal minority government introduced gun control legislation in Parliament in May and began the debate. When the House of Commons rose for the summer, the legislation had not been passed.

When it passes the second reading, it still has committee study, returns to the House for final approval and then proceeds to the Senate for their approval. Once that happens, it is signed off by the Gov. General and becomes law.

I know that sounds tedious, but it works. It is a rare piece of legislation which isn't changed for the better during that process.

Now the government proposes to enact a regulation to carry out the intent of a statute that has not even passed the second reading. How can that be?

If we start using that as a legitimate Parliamentary process, we are on the slippery slope of the Parliamentary process.

I make no partisan comment on this situation. However, I would say that there are many ways to speed up the process of approval. One of them, which has been used by all governments in power, has been to introduce draft regulations to accompany the legislation as it passes through the various processes in Parliament. That way, legislators know what the rules are intended to be to carry out the intent of a statute once it is enacted.

Surely, Parliamentarians from all parties will see that it is not a sound Parliamentary process to have a regulation that carries out the intent of a statute that is only at the debate stage, no matter how urgent the statute. That would result in government by regulation, enacted by the party in power, not Parliament.

Any chance legislation is being enacted as a “just-in-time” measure to counteract any perceived drop in the polls or to keep headlines in view? The optics seem to be driving quite a few things these days. Passing legislation properly won’t do so quickly enough to post an Instagram story or flood Twitter with hashtags on time.

That's what press releases are for. You can't take an end run around parliamentary process because democracy is slowing down your conversion to a dictatorship.

It’s a kangaroo court manoeuvre, seen plainly by those with a sound understanding of due process.
Sadly not enough people in power that see through this will oppose it,

“Put simply, from that moment forward, the number of legal handguns in Canada will only go down,”

I'm sure the criminals who are smuggling will just automatically stop on Aug 18?

The easy way for the government to collapse that number to zero is to make all handguns illegal. Then they can declare that handguns have been eradicated and we are all safe. A few years later when crime stats are unchanged they can blame something else but it surely isn't them as they made us all safer.

There are a few people that will cause me to leave a room. Trudy is one. Fantino is one. Blair is one. All complete wankers that talk a decent game but have no ethics or morals. They also all happen to be federal Liberals but that is just continuing their tradition of chasing personal power and riches at the expense of citizens.

Fantino was the conservative version of Blair.

Entertaining news article of the day. Somebody found all of these "shotgun shells" in the tiny marsh and is concerned. Now, shooting that many times and not picking up your mess is poor but the lack of even basic gun knowledge is sad.
