Are the Alaska cruise ships bypassing B.C. now?

Or not, science is saying not to mix and match the vaccines. Wonder why Canada is not on board with this?

Actually, science has kinda shown it to be fine. Beneficial even.

Who’s freaking out about it is the WHO, which has kinda increasingly struggled with credibility and, more importantly, sensibility in the last year. So I put less weight in their “decrees” like this, as did many others on that topic.

What colour is this state?

What you did there is cherry-picking. There are going to be certain sections of every state that are going to have breakthrough infections, typically because of low vaccination rates. Rochester New York might be a example in the next month or so - despite the state being overwhelmingly blue, there are pockets of red, some section of Rochester being one of them as I understand it, with corresponding low vaccination rates as a result.

Yes, the cruise ship industry rallied for and received an exclusion for the necessity of stopping in a foreign country between two domestic ports. Whether it’s extended beyond the end of the year is questionable because of the slippery slope aspect with other shipping issues - Google the Jones Act.

As much as it meant a loss of business to Vancouver and some East Coast Canadian ports this year, I’m not sure I necessarily feel too bad about it in the grand scheme of Covid. Although most of the preliminary cruises in the last month or so since things have restarted seem to have gone pretty well it seems (those that have required 98% vaccination), there have been some exceptions, not surprisingly out of Florida where their crazy governors laws are preventing cruise lines from requiring vaccination.

I’m not cheery picking nothing, just pointing Out that it is not just so called red states that is raising the count of covid as some on the site will cherrypick and try to make you believe

Would red areas or localities make more sense then as states are not really all red or blue and have pockets of each regardless of the overall lean?

Being a "red state" or a "blue state" is far from being the ONLY factor involved in the current situation ... far from it. Antivaxxers and skeptics exist in all political factions ... we have some here. The statistics indicate that, south of the border, the "red" states trend towards having lower vaccination rates and, currently, higher infection rates. That is all. "Trend towards". Not the exclusive factor.

New York State is ~ 75% New York City and surroundings, by population. NYC has an enormous population, it is densely populated, the population largely relies upon public transit, it's crowded. That's a petri-dish in terms of infection. It's not at all surprising that it's a problem area. It was a big problem early in the pandemic, it's still something of a problem now.

Los Angeles County is not quite as dense, doesn't rely quite as much on public transit, but it's still an enormous highly-populated area.

Some people early on were thinking that rural America might get away with having low vaccination rates on account of the relatively sparse population. It may have delayed the situation, but it's looking like more of a problem now.

I’m not cheery picking nothing

Considering its on the front page of major newspapers, yes it's not cherry picking.

But some people can only reply that way. Anything that doesn't fit their world view requires to be pushed aside or ridiculed. Both sides of the political spectrum do it, and they are easy to spot as their internal justification for it is to blame the "wrong" side for everything.

That’s means it’s doing what you want it to do. 😉

Hubby got Moderna for his second shot on Friday and he too felt like crap yesterday...chills (and he's never cold) and achy...got a good 8.5 hour sleep and feels better today...I got Pfizer for both and no reactions whatsoever other than a sore arm...

In terms of percentage of population fully vaccinated, Canada has overtaken the USA, and remains leading among large countries in terms of percentage of population with at least one dose. Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccinations - Statistics and Research
Quite something considering it seemed we were slow to receive vaccines in the earlier stages (amongst the developed nations) ....it looks like we just over took Spain quite recently in this metric.

Got Shot #2 of Pfizer on Friday night thanks to Peel's "Pfizer Friday" .... Lineup at the Paramount Center at 9 PM was insane....probably the length of 2 football fields... The 86 year old woman across the street from me had a stroke 2 days after getting her 2nd shot. Hmmmm.

That paper's author, Harald Walach, also has another problematic paper in the Journal of the American Medical Association. While that journal seems reputable, the paper has a bunch of holes in it as well.
