Upgrading from SS 600cc to litre bike

Great point here... I just got back from PA and my R1 was great for that!

a 1000CC is a waste for around here. The 600cc or my 636 does everything for me...I can tour with it just fine, I can communte just fine or track it just fine.

The only reason why I'd push towards the 1000cc is to tour down the the US with it.

List of differences between a modern 600SS and a 1000SS:

-More power

That's it. The weight difference is insignificant these days, so handling and braking is effectively the same ... fanciness of brakes & suspension notwithstanding. THAT SAID, what this really means is the same limits of handling and braking still apply, just that you are potentially going a lot faster.

Also, I have a feeling you don't really want a 1000. I'm not saying a 600 is adequate for moving for traffic, I'm saying a 600 and a 1000 can both destroy traffic in a similar fashion. Just downshift, man - the power is there. Depending on your age, the insurance difference is significant.

I bought a CBR1100xx, more sport-touring than the bikes you're looking at but the power curve is fantastic. Being able to roll on the throttle in almost any gear is fantastic. It seems alot of the opinions in this thread are from people with 250s and 600s, I would take those with a grain of salt unless they have spent significant time on a 1k.

I agree with this. I miss my CBR1000RR. There isn't a huge difference in handling between my 04 cbr600rr and my 04 cbr1000rr, just a lot more raw power. The power is quite intoxicating.

Sprockets just don't compare. I'm already -1/+3 on my 636, full exhaust with a PC3 and it feels pretty weak compared to the 1k.

Do you need it? Nope.
Is it awesome? Yup.
Will you friends look at you with envy? Yup.
Should you get it? Nope. LOL.

The main thing is if you can afford it then go for it... otherwise get what you can afford both bike wise and insurance.

much better deals out there on used 1k's than used 600SS... thats probably mostly because of the insurance prices.

It is easier to go tank for tank on a 1000cc vs. a 600cc. The 1000cc's also are just that much wider / bigger.

The biggest reason I want a 04/05 zx10 or a 09/10 zx10 is the size, I fit on to them perfect. I can just sit on it all day and not be tired. My legs aren't around my ears - but on 600'cc's they are.

I love the extra power and not having to make the bike work - which makes it easier on my. There is always a TON of extra power on tap. You can be lazy and still keep up a very respectable average speed.

For me touring is all about average speed, I like to ride for 10 hours of the day and would like to cover 800-1200kms. I can cover that distance easier on a 1000cc.

If you want low end grunt (torque) why not just get some kind of triple or twin?

Nope, not agile enough and too heavy.

That's right.

They're not agile enough and too heavy when you're trying to win a superbike championship.

They're fine as a streetbike though.

Just get a Harley.

No offence but I find this OP question very immature, especially when you think it is ideal to get a litre bike coz it gives you faster pick with less effort... if you want "less effort", drive a car.

600cc SS is definitely enough for daily use, tracks, wheelies, whatever things you wanna do with it. Being a "novice" rider, you don't even know what a 600cc SS can really do; drag race on a motorcycle is just dumb, and you don't even need skills for it.

Litre bike is just a gimmick, there is honestly no reason of why you should be getting a litre bike, other than you want it.

If you want it, go ahead; if you want someone to support your ideas of getting it, sorry, you wouldn't be getting much.

Technically, none of us really need a 600cc either on public roads. Go for it if you think it will make you happy

How many of you who are against getting a litrebike for the street, have actually owned and ridden one? (serious question)

Most of the people I know who have, love the litrebike. I think I *may* have read someone talk about downgrading because it was too much for the street..don't think I actually know anyone who did.

Of the people I know who ride them, none have ever complained about mileage, bulkiness, too much power, insurance, etc.

Once you go litre it's very hard to go back, trust me.

:lmao:
This is comical. And not just the "willies" part.

Hahaha, i was rolling on a floor, got to stop Tuesday drinking sessions......

P.S.

Nor a 500 etc etc. While the liter is faster and all that, a 600 is way more than enough for the road. I can see the desire for bigger but there is no "need" with any bike. If you're finding a 600 to be "slow" you need to practice more or go find a track.
