Guess it’s time to start considering leaving NETFLIX…

They have lost 64% in their stock value this year, worst performing stock on the nasdaq. They are desperate and some knucklehead decided commercials are the way to go... Bill Ackman lost over $400m in the last 3 months and just dumped his shares, showing even he has little faith the company will bounce back.

Raising the price on a luxury item (that people can get much cheaper even free elsewhere) during a period of the highest inflation in decades was a poor choice. Didn't help they lost 700k subscribers because of the Russia sanctions too, although the stock was already in free fall before the sanctions.

I think they're going with commercials on a free version

Their content sucks lately, all the good shows get cancelled after 1 season.

Apparently it will be a lower cost subscription... So probably the cost of the normal subscription before it was just increased.

The problem is the competition. People will only subscribe to so many platforms before they start wondering about the cost and value.

When Netflix was the only game in town they had an awesome catalogue. Now not so much. Some of their original content is just terrible B class TV. Amazon Prime Video has some decent content and they don’t upcharge for 4K movies/tv either plus I pay for Prime anyway. There’s HBO, Disney, Apple+. It’s getting saturated. We’re getting back to where we were for cable TV where you pay for a package just to get 1-2 decent shows/movies.

started watching we own this city, many of the characters are back

If you’re into giant robots vs monsters… As in the Pacific Rim movies… Animé style..
Pacific Rim: The Black

Binged 5/7 episodes tonight and I’m pleasantly surprised. Pretty well done story line as far as cartoons go.

*edit - the ”Boy” bit is getting a bit old now…

Slow Horses on Apple plus with Gary Oldman and Kristen Scott Thomas. Spy story that’s really well done. Worth watching for Oldman alone. This has a modern day Le Carre feel to it.

Dammit. Le Carre is probably my favourite author of all time, but I've been able to avoid Apple's streaming service so far. Ted Lasso wasn't enough, but this might be. I'm a sucker for grey spy stories with conflicted leads, murky morality, and individuals consumed by unfeeling bureaucracies. The Alec Guinness BBC Tinker Tailor series' are incredible, for example...

Watched S6 of Billions.

It was ok and good, went in some interesting directions and more so in the end. I'm still waiting for the Chuck to fully vilified (I hate that character in the show, overall not a fan of Paul G anyway), it almost happened, but not enough.

Whaaaat. The character is fantastic, especially the first few seasons.

Anywho, I love that show. But miss our redhead.

Axe>Prince... show lost some of its flair when he left. Paul Giovanni is a great actor imo and is probably only reason I still watch the show.

If it helps at all, Apple’s 4K quality is so so so much better than Netflix and Prime, not sure about the other streamers.

Watching Long Way Up for the scenery (series sucked) in beautiful 4K is amazing.

the awkward love triangles always kill a good show for me.

ffs create a good show without pandering to a female audience

The last statistic that I saw said that there were something like 98 genetically men in Canada, for every 100 genetically female. You aren't "pandering" when you're playing to your majority audience ;)

Chrome does the best with 4k streaming for youtube. Lot of factors involved. I generally prefer how Brave handles everything.

Tokyo Vice is worth chasing ...up to 7 episodes now....just watched the remastered Heat....Michael Mann rocks. One scene in Tokyo Vice 6 is very evocative of the second Miami Vice movie. One of my fav scenes....really love the sound track ...

I'm waiting for Better Call Saul S6 as it's not on NETFLIX yet...but it's being reviewed on Reddit all the time. WTF?
