I was gonna watch this.....then Netflix pulled their stupidity again. Apparently there's a black Jarl..?

I find that about as offensive as Goku being white, making Triss Merigold black, making Starfire a black hooker, or god forbid some idiot makes Abraham Lincoln asian. God damnit Netflix!
Yea they made Jarl Haakon, the last pagan king of Norway a Black woman. Everyone by now knows the vikings series is no really historically accurate anyway.

That being said its still a good watch imo. Hope to see Eric the Red make an appearance at some point to wreck ****.

exactly, there is no way to make historically accurate shows in the current environment. If there is "no equal representation" show will be cancelled in a second (or would never got financing to begin with)...
I personally don't sweat it anymore and watch is as a Sci-Fi movie about alternative reality. Cheers.

I never got over Goku being white in Dragon Ball Evolution (then the movie sucking so badly that Toei Animation removed any chance of a live action Dragon Ball Z movie) or Scarlet Johansson being cast as "Major Motoko Kusanagi" (does this name sound English at all?! lol) so the whole black Jarl thing reminds me of those two <_<

....at least Disney did Shang-Chi right!

You got it right here - totally unacceptable whitewashing GitS! I am such a fan and IMO there were absolute no reasons (even in the current environment) to give it to Scarlet - I hate that movie for that. Maybe Rinko Kikuchi will be the next Motoko in the new movie? :)

I dunno I think Scarlet fulfilled some of the physique of the major quite well. Considering how anime is drawn to exaggerate certain traits ;)
Rinko is a great choice though.
Also I thought it was a thing for anime to display characters with western appearances so they would look exotic to the home audiences?

Just watched the trailer. How you not like Sam Elliot?

Finished up Hawkeye on Disney+ this morning. Slow start but thoroughly enjoyed the second half of the season once things sped up.

is it actually good? Dude was forgettable in Avengers lol. Scarlet Witch would've been forgettable too....if I didn't know she wipes out the entire Marvel Universe in the comics.

Haven't started this but friends keep telling me to watch it. If anyone's into extremely depressing/cynical stuff, apparently this is the setting:

A war has gone on for 9 years. One sides uses autonomous machines. The other side didn't, until they developed them....except they didn't. The public thinks the machines are autonomous but there are 86 humans on that squad and their sole purpose is to fight. The 86 are seen as "sub-human" and the government is racist af.

There's some very clear "who is the actual enemy?" in the above plot. I would, however, prefer if the story has a happy ending and does not end the same way Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans and Final Fantasy XV*

Spoilers: everybody dies in both. There's no happy ending.

I liked it...but it was fairly slow.

Since he doesn't have superpowers....he's getting old.

Yeah, that's a thing called "plot." Given the other superhero stuff that has been released I can understand your confusion about it :ROFLMAO:

I really enjoyed it and will admit my bias because reading Hawkeye and Green arrow, as a kid, made my tinker around with archery. A guy with no powers who hangs with super powered folks is going to end up with more than a few aches and pains.

Green arrow was one of the few or maybe the only DC comic I read.

Hawkeye TV series was ok, the last episode where Frisk shows up and shows how almost indestructible he is, was interesting.

Loved the characters that showed up and found it a nice surprise…

Apologies to the folks who also follow the MotoGP thread for the cross post, but figured this qualified in both categories...

Just watched the first three of eight episodes of MotoGP Unlimited on Amazon Prime, and really enjoyed it. It covers the 2021 season, which definitely had a lot of drama. Cameras follow the riders and teams at the track and at home, though the series is structured around the championship.

The new crop of young riders are mostly very likeable, so they're easy to spend time with. I would say you don't need to be a race fan to enjoy it, but I'm heavily biased, so I'd be curious to hear from anyone who doesn't follow the racing but watches the show...

S4 of Marvelous Mrs Maisel was excellent.
