Track tires

Back to tires, just thought I'd ask about race rains. Do they wear out as fast as slicks and DOT race? Is there a market for rain scrubs as there is for the other race tires? I'm trying to put together a set of spare wheels for rain tires, and wanted to know the details. Thank you.

They last for a long time in the right conditions. I have a set of Pirelli rain scrubs I'd be willing to part with. I ran an endurance race in the rain for 2hrs and the tires looked brand new after. If you ride them in the dry or on a dry line they'll be garbage in a few laps.

Yep, rains can last quite a while if ran in cool wet conditions...if the track starts drying half way through a race, kiss $500 goodbye. I shredded a set in 6 laps in 2010. crashed too. Lol

They are even worse. You don't even want to leave them out in the sun.

Unless I race, how the hell am I supposed to keep an extra set of wheels with rain tires at my disposal for trackdays if I might not even get to ever use it. I'm telling you man, the world is so unfair

Doesn't matter how much money you throw around, there's always something you need or forget.

If you are running t-days, ask yourself do you really need the cost of extra rotors? Do you really need rain tires, extra rims? The track i presume you are doing most of you days at doesn't need to pre booked in advance for fear of being oversold.

It might be that somewhere in my blood line i have some Scottish in me, but for my first year i would be looking at spending money on stuff that is needed, not wanted.

Well I guess you'll just have to come out and race then. It's much more fun than storing rain tires.

No, I'm not the OP of this thread, but I do know I want extra rims with rain tires as I've lost track time last year because of rain. I agree for the rotors, easy switch at trackdays.. As for selecting the days I do track---that's kinda difficult due to work schedule, unfortunately not too much flexibility there.

lf you are going to buy track tires get someone to show you whats good and what not to buy.you can get a set of new race tires for $300.00 .they should last 3or4 trackdays and the good thing you can trust your tires.with track tires you never know.l have put track on and they were out of round.l hate them

The Diablo Rosso Corsa is probably a better choice, but it depends on your pace and your balance of street/track.

I've run these at Shannonville (Long track) in expert, and they held very well. Pace was mid 1:50s. They also tend to have good wear for me, especially compared to Supercorsa SPs.

OP, what tires did the bike come with?

seat time, seat time, seat time.

top three things that will improve your track riding skills.

I've run ROAD 3's both at the TRACK and the GAP with days of rain..........

cheaper alterative and wont wear fast........Incredible wet and dry tire !!!!

(running in top ten in Expert)

I sell dunlops, they are very rubbery, I say they are the rubberiest tire out there. They are also black , and they come in super rubbery, rubbery, and kinda rubbery.

Hmmm. Rubber you say. I may have to try them. Is this a new thing? Are they black? Still round?

Ok... I'm reading all this and curious. No love for the Michelin Power One? I threw scrubs on my F4i (for street) replacing the Pures and fell in love :). Pures are so unstable at times and felt like they were going to go out from under me, I hated the feeling. Tippy at low speed too ('cause the cut). The Power Ones did great in a brutal downpour I was caught in too (had me worried!). No one's mentioned them here for track...

I bought scrubs of these and was very happy with the tire. Came recommended from Reciprocity

I was wondering how would Pilot Power 2CT or the Pilot Road 3 would do for a spare set of wheels to be used only on wet track (on a track day, not racing)?

Use street tires on the street and track tires on the track. Neither one has any place in the others domain. If you are using track tires on the street you will never get them into operating range and they cant move water.
If you are using street tires on the track in three laps at race pace they overheat and go away.
walk around any race paddock. you will not see anyone (running any kind of pace) using street rubber. nuff said
