Toronto politics

I think that you need to draw a line between the concepts of infrastructure, social programmes, and actual capital "S" Socialism. There isn't a pure Socialist country in the world. There isn't a pure Capitalist country in the world.

Infrastructure has been the responsibility of organized government, as long as there has been organized government, if only to foster making war and providing defence. The Romans epitomized this with their roads and aqueducts.

As to Chow I encourage anyone who hasn't done so to listen to her interview from CFRB, this morning, and critically analyze it. Listen past the buzzwords.

Of course i agree there is a difference but like almost anything political ideas run on a sliding scale public infra is still part of socialism though just on the low end we also have to careful not to commit the fallacy of the middle ground here and look at issues on an individual basis some issues will be best handled by a socialistic approach such and some would be a disaster. Don't get me wrong i'm not not saying I would vote for chow and i'm defiantly not a fan of NDP but im also not a FAN of the conservatives or the liberals. Its why i get so frustrated with politics today there is to much towing party lines and sticking to these stupid labels to make any progress.

Ignore party labels. They are largely meaningless these days. Look at policies and history instead.

Sometimes I wish political parties didn't exist. I find so many people tow the line even against their own belief system in order to support 'One of their own'

Both Ford & Chow have supporters like that. I can't believe how many law & order Cons will defend Rob Ford and his illegal activities.

Honestly based on pure policy that I have read right now Soknacki is most in line with my vote. Too bad reality of politics kills reading pure policy and voting as such.

Rob Ford cannot get a 2nd term. Its been a long time since I have loathed a politician as much as Ford. He stand against everything I believe in.

Anyone listen to Chow's rally speech to her downtown disciples at her love-in today? Let's put women and children of Toronto at the forefront! Her touch-feely politics are going to bury her when the hard issues come to play. I'd really like to know what her ideas are about the crumbling Gardiner Expressway which affects everyone and thousands of others who don't live here but need it for commuting to work. Is she going to campaign outside of the downtown core where she has far less support?

If Chow wins, good luck to us tax payers. She clearly said that increases in property taxes will be in line with inflation. Last I checked it;s about 3%.
All the union departments are gonna get a good increases. all the "special interest" groups are gonna be getting grants again and this city is gonna turn into a good old Miller Town

You already pay the lowest in the GTA region. Do you want services or do you want to keep low taxes? The services you get now are unsustainable and have been cut drastically from 2010. Anyway you slice it taxes will need to go up to keep Toronto a decent city. Ford is already promising 3 new subway lines (Scarborough, Finch, Relief line) with no indication of how to pay for it (same as 2010) so guess what your taxes are going up no matter who gets in. Toronto has a revenue problem. Ford passed the $60 a year from plates to TTC riders. Have you seen the condition of the roads out there after this winter? Who is going to pay for it? Expect drivers to get dinged again. Either plate fee or tolls will come. suck it up someone has to pay for it and searching the couch cusion for loose change like Ford has been doing isn't making much of a difference.

I don’t need to argue anything. Gas is going up and people are waking up to these socialist governments and their agenda.
You keep thinking everything is ok.
Yes, people ARE waking up and seeing how far back they've fallen because like you, they've dismissed the value of public delivery of social services. This is a fantastic example of how the US is trying to catch up; they held a hearing on health services around the world compared to their own and found that they had a lot to learn: http://www.c-span.org/video/?c4486943/cspan-international-health-care-models

That's 90 minutes, with tons of fascinating data analysis and solid arguments, but you can just jump to the part where a Canadian doctor schools a US senator here: (3 mins) http://www.c-span.org/video/?c4486962/dr-danielle-martin-senator-richard-burr

Porn starlet Nikki Benz just filed her papers today, May 28th, to run for Mayor of Toronto.

Here is a link to her campaign video from earlier this month: http://once.unicornmedia.com/now/od...656-b289-5af7250ef118/0-grlrv0iu/content.once

Wow.

Update: Even though she was at City Hall the city wouldn't let her register. Issues with her paperwork. Maybe the non-resident part? Too bad. I wonder how long it'll take to fix that. To be a resident do you have to file a tax return or just rent a room? Maybe it was her name too. Her real name isn't Nikki Benz. More to come.

Just wondering .... how did the Sony center remodel project got so out of hand under stop-the-gravy-train RF. How did they allow that to happen?

Now, the board members seem to be throwing each other under the bus, while taxpayer dished out for the overrun, plus apparently Sony center was supposed to be running after the project without city's money, yet they will still require 1mil. per year from city??? What a disaster.

Might have something to do with the road/lane closures that it entails. Feels like that lane on Yonge has been closed for longer than Ford has been in office.

I'd vote for her. I don't she can do worst than what is out there.

Sounds like he had the right idea back in 2011, but I guess in 3 years not much has been done to save the taxpayers money from this non-sense.

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/2011/12/14/rob_ford_urged_to_stop_funding_sony_centre.html

Ford had a right idea once?

I bet he never read that report. Bet he never knew it existed. Reading words on a page is too elitist for Rob.

He'll look at things superficially like water fountains, bicycle garages, coffee and snacks, number of councillors and so on then he'll just make an impromptu moral call whether it's worth the money (it never is unless it gets him elected). He wouldn't know gravy if it was served up in front of him in a silver dish.
