Too many taxes, payments, and fees in Canada.

If it was a general statement then it should be noted that not EVERYONE in ontario face these same expenses. I for one have a Uni degree and no student loans and I dont have life insurance. Not everybody in Ontario has a mortgage, and not everyone owns a car to incur all the fees that go with one. The point here is that these expenses are incured through personal choice...not as a penalty set forth by the goverment.

In regards to parking tickets I think that point is pretty self explanitory...dont park where your not supposed to and you wont get a ticket. Just like any other infraction in the laws of this country. Is he saying that there should be no fines for parking illegaly or speeding exesively?

Again if people are incuring huge amounts of debt thats no the goverments fault, its a personal choice.

The point Goaler was making was that most of the "fees, payments, taxes" that Easy was complaining about are incured by personal choices and not forced on you by the goverment.

I'll agree to that.
Still, he needs to adjust his writing format, not to mention getting to know people before tossing in his opinion.
Speaking of which, for those of you that have a couple hundered posts under your belt, we'll assume you like it here and enjoy using this forum, how about paying the 10$ minimum to become a site supporter and help keep this thing running smoothly.
Not to mention access to trash talk where all the fun happens.
:-)

PS> NO, i don't work for Paul or this site.

I find myself similar to Easy's post. I was surprised to see the questions/rebutles until I realized it is coming from people in different situations.
I'm going to search 'becoming a site supporter', but if anyone has an extra second; do you go to the support us at the top and then key in the credit card # and amount??

I've been back in Canada for about a year after an extended stay overseas. I have to hand it to anyone here who can survive the onslaught of fees and expenses:

Income less EI, CPP, Worker's Comp, Fed Tax, Prov. Tax

less: Mortgage, Electric Bill, Gas Bill, car lease, phone bills, cable,
less: Municipal Tax, GST, PST
less: Parking Tickets, Fines, Speeding Fines
less: Plate Renewal, Toronto Vehicle Tax
less: Student Loans OSAP/CSL (if any)
less: car insurance, life insurance, home insurance

I can't figure out how the majority of Canadians can have much cash left over in their pockets. I don't! Factor in Christmas, Valentines, Anniversaries, Birthdays, and "Vacations", and I can't seem to figure out where the wealth is. Of course, there is the family home which can be sold tax free, but as many people are moving into condos these days, what am I missing here?

I hear ya, it's very hard to maintain a decent quality of life standard. This is why the rich get rich and the poor get poorer.

I disagree with this. Most people just don't live within their own means. Can't afford a certain lifestyle, well, get rid of your cable, don't buy the big plasma, no need for a new digital camera every year when they get upgraded, no need for expensive cell phones with all the gadgets if indeed you do need a cell phone, don't need an expensive car, house, etc etc..

People feel they need all these things to have worth in their lives. It's a big joke.

Dont do it! You slip up once and say something to offend someone and they'll ban you from the site, doesnt matter if you're a site supporter or not...

Oh boy.....
No one has been banned for offending someone.
You really need to cross the line with threats, ultra racist comments and personal attacks before you get sent to hell.
I'm not the most pleasant person and i managed to make it this far.

Yes, you should click on "support us" link and throw 10 paypal buks in the pot.
You can meet hot chics with boobies in the trash talk section!! :laughing8:

Well said !! Scotch does work!!

No you wont! Its a sausage fest in there...plus you're encouraged to swear, and then if you do you will get banned! lol TRUE STORY :)

This whole site is a sausage fest. Strange, even though you are whining and complaining you just keep coming back...:p

Really? I guess it depends what you mean by a decent quality of life standard. When I hear that the top gifts of the Christmas season are ipods, Wii's, Playstations, and flat screen TV's, I sort of assume we're doing ok as a society. I think it's time to take a step back. The standard of living and quality of life standard in Canada is one of the highest in the world. If it's hard to maintain a decent quality of life standard in this country, I think you will have a much, much harder time in most other countries. Except for the as-yet unnamed country that Easy Rider lived in.

Agree 100%. In my parent's age, they had to save up for years and years to get their first home. The days, the first thing kids do after landing their first job is lease a new car, buy a condo, complete with the flat screen, stainless appliances, home theatre, take vacations a couple times a year etc just b/c everyone else seems to do it too. Its these ppl that are living beyond their means that complaining about the struggle to maintain a certain lifestyle when in fact, their income is sufficient for a very comfortable lifestyle.

Wow, you're on a real 'getting banned' kick aren't you? Every forum I come across that you're posting in has only to do with getting banned or trying to get banned or something along the lines of... if you're so unhappy here, don't come... using every forum as a soap box about your disagreement with the moderators is just plain annoying. Want to have a friendly debate about taxes, gov't, the great beyond, go for it but please jump off the soap box on this getting banned thing already.

yup. Or, do what I do and work 2 (or 3 sometimes, couple times a month) jobs and volunteer twice a week so that you can do what is described above. I like a reliable car, a roof, hot sunshine in the winter and an open box special at best buy. Sleep when you're dead! Never say die! Never sleep! Never say never, I'm looking forward to a cozy christmas. So instead of compromising what I like, I work for it. and 40 hrs a week at an 8-5er job won't cut it for me... everyone's different.

That is definitely a good way to look at it. Want it, earn it. Nice...

Thanks Angus!
edit, and of course it would be nice to not have to do all those things, but it's for other people as much as myself so it takes the self-pitty out. I don't know, you know what I mean? It's all good, and I will keep telling myself that.
One friend in particular works more than I do as an entrepreneur, ah to be gifted/focussed/driven, toward something great. He's my hero.

I agree 100%. My parents migrated to this country many many moons ago from a country where a lot of things we take for granted are basically pipe dreams ie; Social Welfare, Universal Healthcare, free post secondary and even though it may not seem like it...the opportunity for upward mobility. Now we didnt migrate from impovrished 3rd world country either, but at the same time I can realize just how great we have it here. With some discipline, personal and fiscal responsibilty everybody can attain a very comfortable standard of living.

I can really appriciate the fact that you added in volunteer. I think volunteering with those in need really keep people humbler and happy to have what they have already :)

Thats a good attitude. If you want more, work more (or smarter) for it instead of bitching.

What an idiot. Stop your whining, already. It's gotten REALLY boring.

(Go ahead...tell me I didn't have to read it or reply to it...go on. WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH.)
