Too many taxes, payments, and fees in Canada.

However, Caracas was an amazing city to live..until chavez

Fear and violence are the two words that come to mind from what I was told about life in Caracas.

I told my friend about "City of God" and how I found it utterly shocking. I finally got the idea when he said that unfortunately it wasn't all that shocking to him... :(

As soon as I saw this thread, I didn't have to read any of the posts within it. The thread should have been titled, "I want to live in a civil society where people will not eat me - and I don't want to pay for it."

Anyways, the good thing about Canada is it's big. You can build a log cabin in alot of desolate areas, where you will likely encounter no authorities that will be able to retrieve your assets. If log cabins aren't your thing, you can always live within a siocial community. But the thing about other people, is that they will always want your goods.

Living in Quebec, I would be paying 6000$ more in income taxe. France and some other european countries are much worst than Canada. where have you been before?

EDIT: Just saw that the thread start back in 2008, I kept my answer as is so you can enjoy living in Ontario, where the income tax is the cheapest in Canada (9,75%).....if you forget the HST.

I think you are talking about Provincial income tax which is 11%, and the federal income tax is 22%, for a grand total of 33%. Now add you 13% sales tax and you are are 46%. Throw in you property tax and half your money goes to tax. There are plenty of European countries like Spain for instance where 80% of the population doesn't even pay tax.......and their retirement starts at 55 or 57. Good deal.

So where's this place again, korea?

That explains the suicides, their work culture is torture. 9-5 exists only on the weekends... If you're lucky.

lol, 9.75%... maybe if you make under 13k a year at a minimum wage job or something. I havent paid less than 33%... ever. Plus an additional 13% when i actually spend the money they let me take home. More if i spend it on things that are "bad" for me, like cigarettes, liquor or gambling.

I know the original thread is 3 years old but even still, thats a pretty BS comparison. Living in foreign countries is generally great if youre an expat working for a multinational corporation. Doesnt matter where you go, asia, europe, africa... Try immigrating to those countries and doing the same thing. Free housing and fat paychecks dont exist then. With my old company if i had gone to work in India supervising our outsourcing vendor, i would have made 45k US a year, free housing, had a chauffeur, maid and cook and an expense account, and any other perk I could have wanted. When that company got bought out, the same job with their own offshore sites paid 12.5k US with no perks, because you actually work in india and get paid an indian living wage with average indian benefits. That doesnt look so rosey then. Also try breaking the laws in a country when youre no longer a rich foreigner with a company to back you up if you get into any trouble...
