TMP Labour Day Weekend

I ran Pirelli Rosso Corsa (street tire) at TMP yesterday, was in the beginner group and noticed lots of shredding on both front and rear tires (right side more than left). So the theory of not going fast enough could be valid. Was running about 27psi on rear and did not have tire warmers. My suspension is stock and adjusted for my weight but could use improvement.

Thanks for the tip about the ditch between the food stand and washroom. It really helped unloading/loading off my truck.

I checked tire temps coming off the track ,
69c right side, 67c center, 65c left side that's at 29psi hot. A fun paced lap for me is 1:19's pushing it is 1:17.7-1:18.0
I'm still very new to this sport. Suspension for me is a foreign language. Lol. So much to learn..... If I actually get my suspension set hmmm wonder what I can pull off.... ;-).

It all sounds about right to me. I usually get the middle of the tire up to 65 to 67C and 29PSI hot up from 25PSI cold.

Ideally I think I should have the rear up to 31 PSI hot and the rear a little stiffer to run sub 1:20. That being said I didn't get anywhere near the same tearing as you and still less than Carbon and that was from a whole day at TMP. What compound of slick were you using?

I might get to do Bogie in September again and I noticed that track was much more abrassive on the tire. I'll up the PSI to 26 or 27 cold, and stiffen the rear susspension a tad like I mentioned and see if I get equal or less tearing than I did the first time I went there while running a (targeted) 2:20 pace.

My feeling is your rear set up is too soft for the Perillis and you're over working them, too much deformation of the carcas and uneccessary contact patch I reckon. Try to stiffen it up and see if it helps while not impacting by sliding too much.

I know TMP is a slippery track and it's a fine balance to keep the grip there, but Bogie for example has tons of grip and could easily handle stiffening of the rear and increase in PSI to spare the tires a little before any slippage starts happening.

Anyways, try upping the PSI a first and see how that goes. Try for 31 PSI hot.

We were up on Sunday the 1st. Thanks Orlin for the hospitality. I have posted my favourite pictures here. if any are of you or someone you know, feel free to take the picture. These are raw edits only

If you would like it removed, let me know. There are about 115 on photobucket if you would like to review.

Thanks for the pics, suzuki2000! It was a pleasure chatting with you and your wife at the track!

Ya only the Saturday, next time I guess. Thanks for posting the pics for everyone

Hmmm first Pirelli will be last Pirelli.
Guesses on why it did this ????
Looked like this after 1 session. My Bridgestone never did this.
Mine looked like that after the rebound in my shock snuffed it.

So essentially the bike is squatting too long under acceleration? Dialling back the rebound dampening is your suggestion? Interesting, I'll give that try and see if it doesn't see saw on corner exits. If it's still solid and planted, then we may have a winner here!

Paul, what are you 200lbs+? I can't imagine your stock suspension is set up right for the lap times your laying down. If you're near Mississauga, Riders Choice will set it up for your for what $30 or $40? Someone correct me here.

Bring your gear, sit on your bike, they will set your preloads, and tell them you want the dampening set up for the track and what you have experienced with your tires. They'll sort you out with a good track base setting which you can tweak a little from there.

No amount of adjustments made a difference for me, my rear shock was kaput :( New Elka Stage 4 and it was flawless.

will they do this for steet bikes too with stock suspension? Do you need to book an appointment?

Was there today, super awesome! Open track all day. Morning was good, 2 hour rain delay, then 2.5 hours of sunny, hot, open track action. Got almost as much track time as 2 normal 3 group track days. It was my first time at TMP on my new bike and I managed to take 1 second out of my best, 1:21.6. It was tough because of a few puddles being on the good lines, and traction wasn't 100 percent for me. Super fun though!

let me know when you expect to be up there. I cant promise it will fit into my schedule, I dont mind taking a ride up there, its not that far.

As long as i can get on a guest list to not have to shell out for an entry fee, its sometimes a good way to spend a few hours on a weekend

That's what she's riding on now Elka4 with ohlins internals on front.
I have "Fatman" springs front and back. Lol
Nice! I wanted elka internals for my forks but they dun make em in 25mm :( So I just went with a revalve, new scrapers and seals and a polish of the fork tubes. Workin great so far, I'll probably get some ohlins cartridges for next season :)

They will do it for any bike with adjustable suspension. Takes them about 15 to 20 mins. Call ahead to make sure they are not busy, but usually they can do it on a drop in basis. Just come in all the gear you want to be set up for, street or track, cause it can often be 30lbs + of gear!

Sunday was nice, started to sprinkle just as we came off and stopped/dried before our next session then called it a day a little after 4 (not sure if we would have gotten another session anyways)

It was my second day at TMP and my third trackday overall, was planning on signing up in yellow but it was full so had to sign up in red. I dont think I held up anyone...?(not to bad at least lol) There were a couple guys that were really fast that I couldn't hang with once they passed me but for the most part it was nice to pass some guys in red and not get passed by the others. I saw I need to definately work on braking harder and later as well as having more consistent fast laps once warmed up.

Anyone else on the forum that was running red on Sunday? Nice to put bikes to handles.

Thanks for the pics! Does she have any others? Either post up or PM me, thanks again.

Which bike? She didnt take the usual amount yesterday because when i got to the track had to park nearly at the end of the straight so walking down to the entrance was a pain.
Where were you pitted/what were you riding? I was pitted second from the end.

Thanks also for the pics.

Sweet pictures!

Were you pitted with the black 675 down near the end?
