TMP Labour Day Weekend

Nice pictures DownUnder! :)

Hope some of the ones I took look just as good (novice over here) I'll try to upload them within the next day or two.

Hoping the weather holds up today, as it will be my turn to track.

That is one awesome picture

At full resolution (5000x3200) you can actually read his gauges in the reflection.

The Missus is getting better at taking bike pics, it was a tricky day with the change in lighting so frequently from overcast to full sunshine.

Hmmm first Pirelli will be last Pirelli.
Guesses on why it did this ????
Looked like this after 1 session. My Bridgestone never did this.

There very sensitive to suspension flaws, and there known to fall apart fast.
When I used them (one time) I had to change my whole suspension set up. Very annoying

Thanks a lot DownUnder! Do you have anymore of the red group?

Which bike? She didnt take the usual amount yesterday because when i got to the track had to park nearly at the end of the straight so walking down to the entrance was a pain.

I went from Dunlops (my usual tire) to Pirelli at Tremblant.

I put about 80 laps on the first SC1 rear and it didn't tear at all. I did not make any suspension or geometry changes.

You have set up issues. The BStones may be hiding it. It's not the tire's fault.

+1 Never been a fan of pirelli but that looks like suspension set up.

ive done this to three dunlops at tmp this year already. could be a pressure thing, could be too much throttle too fast coming out of the corners. at least thats what my problem was. with the heat we had yesterday my tire pressures kept growing through the day so i had to constantly drop them between sessions. its also likely because its tmp and its rough as **** and if you arent going fast enough to keep that slick hot youll start to do that to it.

im just uploading a video from yellow group from yesterday, first session after lunch, ill post it up here. if anyone knows the guy who was running the rc51 in yellow id like to see his videos, i chased him around for a bit on several sessions and wouldnt mind seeing the footage of that.

He's more then Fast enough to keep heat in his tires lol
and yes it's a rebound issue that the Bridgestone Probbly hides well. Here's one from my rear tire from sat at tmp

wasnt implying hes slow, simply saying that a soft tire will tear if you cant keep it hot :) all of my track days at tmp with the exception of three have been on pirellis and the dunlops are the only tires ive managed to do any damage to. im sure the fact that there are bumps coming out of turn 1 and 12 doesnt help that poor rear tire at all, lol.

@Carbon Cat & 49 Over:

I was at TMP 2 weekends ago with Paul, running similar lap times (he was in the 1:17s and I was in the 1:19s) and I really only noticed that kind of shredding / tearing when I dipped under 1:20s. My tires looks only slightly less so than Carbon's in the pic above. However I was running the rear pretty soft at 25psi and my rear comp at 24 clicks out of a possible 38. I was also running Pirelli Super Corsa SP (street / track) and the air temp was 27C.

On previous occasions I had the exact same set up and tires at TMP and the air temp was 30C but I didn't have any of the same shredding. The main difference is that I improved my lap times by about 4 seconds. Also no tire warmers on any occasion and I take 2 laps to warm them up usually before riding full tilt. So the issue isn't under heating at all.

The issue I find was that my rear suspension was too soft for my new faster laps and earlier on the throttle out of turns. I experienced more squirming and stepping out than usual, really my first time noticing it ever! So my set up was too soft for my improved riding, at least that's my theory. Chances are, that deflated and that squated down on, I may have been over working the tire. I'm bumping up to 22 clicks out and 26psi next time.

That being said, TMP is damn slippery and bumpy (compared to say Bogie) that the drop in PSI and softer rear suspension helps in terms of grip....up until a speed where the tire starts to get greasey!

I think Carbon has it right, that Pirelli's may heat up faster than ur BSs and may require stiffening up the suspension.

PS Paul, I'll see you in the 1:17s next time! And Paul....you're a damn wheelie fiend on acceleration, so you may be working those Pirellis too hard man!

I'm coming to drop off a set of tires to a friend tomorrow.

I have a 2nd set of Pirelli slicks available. 20 laps. 120/200 for $75. PM me if you need tires.

Those take offs still available?
Got pics?
What spec / compound?

I'm curious to give slicks a try and see how they compare to my regular supercorsa SP...where did you do the 20 laps (what track) and what were your times on them? I ask just cause I am wondering what kind of life and performance difference I could expect out of them compared to say 1:19 at TMP?

Oh and if I don't have tire warmers how many cycles can I get out of them, and how are they to warm up? Like do I have to ride them at 1:17 for 2 laps to get them to even work to notice the difference between a slick and a street/track tire?

Sorry for all the noob questions

TMP is not a very abrasive track. I have to be going basically full race pace to keep a rear at operating temp at TMP if it's a warm sunny day (like it was yesterday). If its a cool day I can not keep a rear at operating temp.

They will never warm up enough to work properly without warmers. I got the tires from Kris Garvie and never used them, he's pretty quick.

They're sold already, sorry.

Got back from a great day, had lots of fun! :)

Weather got great after the downpour.

Big thanks to everyone involved with GWB, the Marshalls, TMP staff, and all the riders.

Hope to be out again.

I'm glad you had a good day today, forecast discouraged me this morning and I stayed home in bed.. GWB run solid days! I wish they'd run the Thursdays too.

I checked tire temps coming off the track ,
69c right side, 67c center, 65c left side that's at 29psi hot. A fun paced lap for me is 1:19's pushing it is 1:17.7-1:18.0
I'm still very new to this sport. Suspension for me is a foreign language. Lol. So much to learn..... If I actually get my suspension set hmmm wonder what I can pull off.... ;-).
