As "killerkeith" would say

are you saying all Indian people scam/scam artist?

This crap disgusts me. Even more so is just how easily people are getting away with it. I've had the "pleasure" of knowing one person who took part in such a scam, and what he got away with makes me sick. Though I would not insinuate it is *only* people of his ethnic background, the entire group of people involved were of the same background and knew each other, from those involved in the "accident" right up to the "doctors" and "therapists". Some of these guys are quite well-connected, and he even told me directly that "his people take care of each other." The guy got away with insurance money for supposed injuries, loss of wages, therapy etc, for an ENTIRE YEAR, all while also working at his place of employment for that entire time for under-the-table pay. His boss was in on it too, which takes it to a whole other level... More than one reason guys like these need to have something... unpleasant... happen to them.

It is sad to say, but this is indeed something that is happening frequently. If you've seen the news in the last month or two, a certain gentleman plead guilty to quite a few counts of insurance fraud, where he arranged for 2 groups of people to crash their cars intentionally, and get the insurance money as a result. I believe this is happening quite a bit more frequently than we actually see publicized. So yeah, between this and the many other risks on the road, I constantly have some form of video recording device with me...

I assume you sent this info to the police, as well as the CRA about the employer paying this person with cash under the table?

Calling the CRA is way way way more troublesome than calling the cops. They got some zealots there ( trust me ).

Once they get their eye on you... its ****ing hell.

POS Lankan, making the rest of us Tamils look bad.

I bust my *** off everyday tryna make a buck to pay my $3500/yr insurance and this clown's claiming money to pay for his riced out TSX.

Can someone please explain how this is a scam ?

I don't get it....

If it weren't for the video capture, the guy behind would have been responsible for the collision. It's hard to imagine any plausible reason for the car in front to back into the car behind like that, other than to defraud the guy especially since he apparently asked for $500 for damages right off the bat.

If it had gone to insurance he might have feigned injury too, to get more money.

These guys are now taking some pretty big chances. It's into stalking/harassment territory. They need to pass the video on, then step off.

its the only way to get things done right nowadays. The police aren't going to do anything so sometimes we have to take matters into our own hands. Its like how the police said if it wasn't for the video posted online and gained such a momentum, they wouldn't have opened up an investigation or lay charges <<<< Referring to the asian kid that got beat up by a bunch of other kids behind a school.

It's all public information... If the idiot post pictures online then it's his own damn fault if someone else gathers them up together with other publicly available information. NOW I hope someone in the future googles his phone number and finds that thread. I hope he looses business because of this.

Sure, you post video and it goes viral, and police can't really help but do something. Politicians start to pressure them, the media takes notice, etc.. This is something different though. There are now people cruising over to houses where they think this guy is, taking video and pictures of the house and vehicles, and other things that can start to fall under the stalking and harassment laws. Rather than helping to jump-start a little justice, they're going to get themselves in some deep crap.

His business, or his father's business? Someone else, with the same name?

If the guy or his family living at that residence gets hurt or killed as a result of their posting his personal information online, would that be "done right"? Granted, with the white pages/internet resources it's easy enough to get that information if one needed it... hell, his license plate# was visible in the video, that's enough... but look at it this way: if you were in an accident with someone, fraud or not, or in ANY other situation really, how would you feel about your home phone# and address, business info etc being posted up on a public forum for everyone to see?

I've had my personal info posted online by an idiot hacker, and for no reason whatsoever. Let me tell you, having to change your phone number and eventually MOVE because of the kind of MORONS that use that information, does a lot of harm to a person, especially their family who didn't deserve any of it.

While I do agree this particular scumbag deserves punishment, it needs to be done via legal means. Insurance companies, police or whatever, but not by a bunch of message-board users. Otherwise, the people involved are no better than him, and what they're doing could easily blow up in their faces.

maybe i should just keep a fake copy of my license, insurance and ownership in the car just for this occasion, so i have something to show to the obvious scammer, get all his info in return, plan to meet up later for payment since i don't have the cash on me...in the meantime, check his info and see if it is all legit, find out where he lives, and go to town...scumbag will pay...dearly...

I personally use an app on my Android phone called DailyRoads Voyager. Once the allocated space (you set how much it can use) is full, it starts to loop over. But if you tap on the screen while it is recording, it will permanently save that file and the two before it. It also uses the accelerometer in your phone to detect a collision, and automatically saves those files too.

It can record in as high of quality that your phone's camera supports.

It also integrates with GPS and can overlay speed, time, coordinates, etc. in the video file.

Wow this app is pretty amazing! After watching op's video I'm all paranoid as ****. That situation is so messed up. Its easy to speculate about what you would do in hindsight but I think I would be too ****** and shocked to play it cool and let him call the cops.
