I've lived in Markham for an odd 20ish years. When I first came here, my neighborhood was mainly Caucasian. People always said hi to each other, I used to play with dogs other ppl owned and had a small crush on some girl next door. When I turned 17, I started driving and noticed that ppl were generally nice. They let my n00b *** back out of my house, flashed/honked when cops were around, signaled, didn't run stop signs, and didn't kill people themselves on 407 and 9th line (or the intersection below that).
Off I went to Western for 3~ years, I come back and notice the new houses south and east of the 407 were complete. Suddenly the following things happened:
#1. People not signalling.
#2. Theft rates increased (south and east, my area is unaffected).
#3. My brother got knocked over riding a bicycle due to someone turning into him.
#4. Some ***** ran red and caused me to have an accident.
Then I found my current gf who lived a lil south of me (past 407 and 9th). I go to her house regularly and noticed that whenever I said hi to the neighbors there, they'd look at me as if I was trying to rob/kill them. But of course if one of their "kin" said hi, they'd say hi back.
I never worked at a restaurant but I have friends who do...and that's when the racist remarks start flying....
I'm 100% sure I am NOT the only person who feels this way, stereotypes and generalization happens for a reason.
Maybe the person you said hi too didn't say hi back because you might be a white male and they might be a little boy under the age of 10.
dammm those stereotypes and generalizations!
