The Sikhs are at it again: fighting helmet laws.

Somebody refresh my memory. How did the Sikh in the news article get his mc license?Had to wear a lid to take the test didn't he?
He got his motorcycle license in British Columbia where there is a helmet exemption for Sikhs. That license was turned in to obtain an Ontario license when he moved here, no retest required.

Which "Canada"? British Columbia seems to have no issue with accommodation for Sikhs, and last I heard BC was still part of Canada.

Which doesn't surprise me, as the Arab nations and Chinese pretty much own British Columbia at this point.

Two can play this game. What if the rider get's hit in the upper forehead by a rock flung up by a car/truck, is rendered partially blinded/unconscious, and veers off the road into a bunch of kids waiting for a school bus? It COULD happen. For god's sake, think of the children.

About as likely as a astroid coming down and hitting that exact same group of kids...

You're not too familiar with turbo's modus operandi, I see.

Lol dude.. I'm closer to being an Arab or Chinese than Sikhs are, and I'm 100% European, with a pair of blues to match :D

Uhh Sikhs aren't Arabs. Not every brown person is an Arab. kthxbai

Easy there, my little Arab buddy, don't go Al-Qaeda on us

Not this again!!

Am I the only Sikh in this thread that wears a turban and a helmet?

Bahaha!!

I'll tell you guys a secret. All my Sikh friends that wear turbans and ride motorcycles were all for the no helmet law back in the day but since they've gotten their licences; they say they wouldn't ride without one now.

In BC, the only reason why the law got passed was because Sikh's have a lot of power in the political area. They have street signs in Punjabi for crying out loud.

And who said we're a minority? Open your eyes, Sikh's are everywhere.. we're more abundant than other races and religions.

It's not so much that they don't want to wear a helmet.. they want to have a choice. That's all.

Now all you gear nazi's claiming helmets save lives. Let me throw this at you. A lot of Sikh riders wear their turbans underneath their helmet. I wear a bandanna but some don't. This makes them get helmets that are XL or XXL. Now, how safe is that on an impact? It's definitely better than no helmet, but again, they're compensating.

You people don't realize that the Sikh WAY OF LIFE (it is NOT a religion, this is a huge misconception) is very important to Sikh's. You cannot change their mind.

I hope this passes, just because I find it very funny how worked up people get and prance around clamoring "my tax dollars" when drunk drivers kill more innocent people on the road than Sikh's not wearing helmet.

finally! but the question is.. will still i be allowed to come on gtam rides when im wearing my turban? or will i just get banned from gtam for wearing a turban?

If Dr Manhattan was leading, he might ban u and rape u

Nah. Just put them on a special insurance rate separate from the rest of us.
Would it be more or less expensive you think?

I was thinking the same thing. You would have to sign a wavier on your insurance policy that you must wear your helmet at all times for one price bracket and a higher bracket for those who don't sign. I'd wear a helmet anyday everyday non the less.

But why limit that choice to just Sikh's?

The point is that the same law should apply to everyone.

Like i said before, I dont care at a personal level if someone is stupid enough to ride without helmet, awesome, not my life,

BUT

even though i would never ride without a lid, I want that choice as well, its only fair.

Here is the irony, they are complaining that the helmet law goes against their way of life, so therefore it should be changed to accomodate them. And like i said, i dont really care either way, so as long as I get the option as well. fair is fair.

Can I then sue the govt as a white person that I am being discriminated against because i have to ride with a helmet? its sheer stupidity.

we all follow the same law or else we open the door to special interests writing their own laws to suite their own needs.

As for the helmet size thing that you mentioned, if it is indeed a way of life, then maybe they can choose not to paricipate in sports or activities that require them to go against their way of life. Same as some culture's do not eat pork, he thats cool, thats there "way of life" so they abstain from it, why can't it be the same way?? Or they have to take the risks assoicated with particiapting in that sport or activity.

You're right, it's not fair that you don't have the choice. But at the same time, Canada is known for it's open mindedness and the freedom to practice any said faith. As I said earlier, that the only reason why this is being entertained at all is because of the political power that Sikh's have in BC. Ontario Sikh's are wanting the same thing.

I completely agree with you that finding alternate sports should be the path taken but people are stubborn, even Sikh's.

To show you how idiotic we think it is, my brother wrote an article poking fun at this whole helmet law. Kind of like fake news as The Onion!

Drunk driving isnt legal.

Helmet laws dont violate anyones rights.

Wow - for such an obviously satirical post, the comments are ... interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Anytime.. this is basically my belief too!

"Glad to see some people are offended and some that actually get the joke. If you’re a Sikh and choose to wear a turban there are things in life you will not be able to do. Don’t complain about it, you’ve made your choice now go live your life joyfully."

I still want the law to pass just so I can point and laugh at all the sissies that get their panties tied in a knot.. :lmao:

Seriously. You;re telling me they can;t put on a patka and ride with a helmet on? IT has to be a full turban? I don;t think wearing a turban while on a bike has anything to do with the Sikh way of life.

As discussed many times, it's logical for adults to behave like adults and wear a patka if they want to ride a bike. It's the safest option and it happens to be the law. You can;t change the law because it's inconvenient for you to have to wear a patka when you ride.

I'm on your side.. I think that law is stupid! Even if it did pass, I would always wear a helmet. I didn't spend $700 on my Arai RX-Q to collect dust.

After reading a lot of ignorant posts on this thread that had no logical thought behind them or understanding as to why the Sikh's say it's an human rights issue and everyone else is saying it's a safety issue. They're arguing different points.

I honestly do not want the law to get passed, I really don't. I'm just being a dick when I say I do to upset the trolls that get worked up over it. That's all.
