The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

That's just a kit for removing straps and resizing (most) bracelets.

For a few bucks more you can get a kit that will do that and has the tools to remove (most) case backs and replace batteries. They're not watchmaker tools by any means, but they're ok for light home use.

Thanks! Just purchased it and should be here tomorrow.

I can tell you these tools from Harbor Freight are pretty bad, but will get the job done if you have nothing else. The press itself is literally a pain to use, and I'll probably just use the pads in a vice next time. The other tool kit I bought for just the opener, again not the greatest.

Tools came in yesterday, a bit of swearing and figuring out which way the pins go in/out and done!
A little loose on the wrist but any more link removals and it’s too tight so I had to put one back in.

No micro adjust in the clasp?

Far from high horology, but it's a watch. Picked up a luminox on a whim as I got a good deal on it. I don't love it. If anyone wants a good deal on a BNIB Luminox shoot me an offer.

The carbon compound cased LumiNox watches equate to the recycled six pack ring cases of the Moonswatches to me. Their steel cased watches look a lot better.

I agree. On the plus side, it's really light. If you were doing something that took a lot of effort and really wanted a watch (long distance run, mounting climbing, etc) it may be a fine option. Not for their crazy asking price though.

Check out this steaming pile. I guess this is what rappers and basketball players wore before Richard Mille came around.

Is there a tool easy to find or something somewhat common in the toolbox that’ll work to get the back off this so that I can change the battery? I don’t frequent watch/jewellery stores so would like to do it myself if possible.

You can get caseback opening tools on Amazon relatively inexpensive.

As fmj said, the tool is cheap. I would get the ball. A piece of drawer liner and a brass punch probably open it if you really want to use what you have.

If you're desperate open up a pair of needle nose pliers wide enough to catch a couple of those indents and turn. Just might work.
