The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

You think a moonwatch is available for sub 5k? Or will I need to dig deeper into the piggy bank?

The kids don't need their RESPs...right?
A used 861 or 1861 calibre can be had in very nice shape for under 5K with some searching. In 2021 they changed the movement to the coaxial and added another 1.8K or so to the list price. Keep an eye out on the grey market for 2020s and older ones, but I bet they are all long sold and never even got there. If buying used one that is older factor in a service cost which will be in the $450 up range (chronograph) at an independent watchmaker.

I checked my "inventory spreadsheet" and I bought mine used in 2008 (861 calibre, 1985 is the date of manufacture) for $900, not getting any deals like that these days.... Just cost me $600 to have it repaired (including a full service).

You can get $350 for an alligator strap for that watch .

If we are talking about our "next" watches - I'd say Nope to the dressy watches above and Moonwatch crono is also def not for me.
I think I am getting this steel traveler's helper piece as my next watch..

Tudor is a highly under rated brand IMHO.

The ONLY watch I’m willing to blow a huge amount (in my eyes) is the OMEGA Moonwatch.

Literally the only one I’d consider. There’s also a nice orange SEIKO posted earlier in the thread.

But the Moonwatch is a goal.
That was also my goal back in 2015. It's the only watch I own that I will always own. The others will be traded or sold and replaced with something else. It's a way to park money and enjoy different watches. I've probably owned 30 watches in the last 10 years. I keep a rotation of 5. If I see something I would like to try, one has to go.

I’m a Tudor fan , the movement in the new black bay is really pretty .
If I could find a Tudor submariner at a price I could live with I’d stop trying to justify a Rolex submariner. Fit and finish is very good on Tudor imo .

Here’s one my wife gave me when we first started dating, it’s about 30yrs old, not expensive but has lots of sentimental value

I once had a Submariner (early 2000s), saved up, lusted after it, sold a couple watches to fund the purchase and finally bought my grail. Then I hated it (at least I made some money on it when I sold it). It was like the hot girl you always wanted to date, then you did and it just doesn't turn out like you expected. But I had bought this NATO strap for it so...

I ended up buying this Seamaster Pro 2531.80 used, it was a little beat up, I hate the bracelet that these come on (too busy for a tool watch IMO). But it is a match made in heaven for me on this NATO strap... even though the 2531.80 was worn by my least favourite Bond. Basically I bought this watch to put on this strap...
