The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

Holy meandering thread, Batman!

Have one of these being delivered today from Perugia (cheaper from there via Chrono24 than here):

Was looking for a budget diver with clean lines and neutral colours, so it came down to this (NY004), an SKX, or some variation of a Seiko Turtle. Went with this because it ended up being just over $300 including shipping, but a Turtle or King Turtle is likely still in my future.

For me, watches much over $500 don't hold much interest, but that's just because I have other obsessions on which I choose to waste my disposable income. The other cheapo watches I currently own are both Seiko Recrafts, as I tend to like the less conservative designs from the '60s and '70s...

I really wanted the limited teal version of the above, but used values are too high for what it is with a basic Japanese 4R36 movement. I got lucky with the setting, as it's relatively precise, running about +5 per day if I wear it regularly and lay it flat overnight...

PS - Anyone else who likes unique older watches for reasonable prices could do worse than check out the Retro Watch Guy shop. It's full of unusual items from the '50s to '80s. One I particularly like is the Belair Park-o-Phon, with an adjustable 0-3 hour alarm designed to tell you when your meter is expired:

The ONLY watch I’m willing to blow a huge amount (in my eyes) is the OMEGA Moonwatch.

Literally the only one I’d consider. There’s also a nice orange SEIKO posted earlier in the thread.

But the Moonwatch is a goal.

If we are talking about our "next" watches - I'd say Nope to the dressy watches above and Moonwatch crono is also def not for me.
I think I am getting this steel traveler's helper piece as my next watch..

Not even gonna bother checking prices but I’m quite sure a Patek is worth more than my fictional Viper.

EDIT:
So let’s qualify….less than 5-7k for a watch.

Guess I could sell the X and buy the watch.

The first three are in the ballpark of 100k (probably all on the far side of it). The ALS, six or seven times that. You could sell your house and buy two.

I'm just glad to be surrounded by good people in this thread. How do I know?

Not a single post of a Hublot, that's how!

I hate the ticking noises of a wall clock or the grand father one, literal PTSD from childhood.
Boo LVMH.

Hublot is a wall clock .

I own a speedy moonwatch , I like it , bought it brand new . But I like (need to) see time at a glance and big face dive watches are better for me.
You think a moonwatch is available for sub 5k? Or will I need to dig deeper into the piggy bank?

The kids don't need their RESPs...right?

Thinking I might splurge and buy a seamaster no date any chance of finding one at a dealer for MSRP

Mariani in Oakville is my go to Omega folks right now, they can set you up with a Seamaster 300 coaxial , or a Seamaster aquaterra from inventory , they sell at msrp , and can often be 'helpful' . They have no date inventory depending on the color scheme and bracelet combo you want . If you have a particular model in mind call the store and speak with Rueben, they can find stuff. Maybe looking about $7500ish right now with inflation and exchange rates on the euro.

used moonwatch should be available in the 5k range in the private market , used dealers may want more.
When I’m in the market, and wife hasn’t killed me I’ll ask for some assistance in buying one.

I’ll start saving now I’ve got 7 years to my 50th.
