The Official Ongoing Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Got Babs back home today (Thanks again for the help, Jer!).
Not happy. Screwed me over on the credit they had owing me, and their attention to detail was crap...
Just put up a wall of text in the general forum relating my experiences with Jacox HD from this past summer until now.

Glad to return the favour buddy!

Raw deal no doubt! and that comment on the crappy purchase post was a pretty shallow comment IMO. I should've stayed out but after seeing your bike in person I'm surprised there are not more out there.

Still doesn't give anyone the excuse to put it down or reason for not servicing it right. The dealer takes the work they should do it right or send you to someone that will.

That's my 2 cents :)

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Thinking over you towing with your car.. it probably would be absolutely terrible for your transmission to tow 2 bikes and a trailer. Flat lands, ok, hills and mountains, not so kosher.
Checked the tow capacity of my truck -- 2300 lbs. Would definitely be better off towing with the truck and throwing gear in the bed (has a cap which can be put on so it's enclosed).
Just thoughts on saving your pocket lots of money in case your tranny (and no, I don't mean Jer or Dean) goes kaput. Unfortunately, my truck is pretty basic - no air conditioning, so it'll be a warm trip.

Good news! I checked the tow rating for my car and it's 2,000lbs, so I'll be able to tow my bike plus one if needed.

Great new about getting your bike back.....bad news about all the crap you had to deal with.
Just forget about it and enjoy the thought of riding Babs this coming season and scaring all the little children!

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Good you've got the weight sorted out.
Just looked up Uhaul - for a 5x8 open topped or 5x8 enclosed, $19.95 a day.

Can't wait for the riding season either...

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

I'm fairly certain I can use my brother-in-laws trailer, it's a 5x8 or a 5x10.....either way it's big enough for 2 bikes, but I'll keep that info about Uhaul tucked away in case I need it!

Watch out for tongue weight also. Most trailers have the wheels so far back that if you put the bike right up at the front you add a lot of tongue weight.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Asked a co-worked if I could borrow their trailer in the summer - they said I could, barring anything unforeseen.
It's a 5x8, so 2 bikes would fit easily.

Thought I'd try posting a vid using iPhone. Let's see how this works. DDM kit is in just got the tinted screen tonight in the post. Put it all together and gave her a bath.

Maybe Dave can help me with why all the timing is off on the signals. Only left side seems to be acting up. Right side seems to have corrected itself.

Either way they work. Pretty happy.

That's an awesome Blair Witch Bike Project video!

So you have LED's front and back, plus the incandescent marker lights, plus load resistors? What I think is happening is that you're right on the edge of having enough load to make it blink correctly. As the bulb heats up the load changes and the blink rate changes, but then it cools and the rate changes again. However, this is backwards to what I would normally expect as light bulbs decrease in load (increase in resistance) as they warm up. The load resistor and even the LED's would also be changing their load as the heat up. I made an LED tail light for my old 929 and when I was testing the LED arrays I watched the current closely, and believe it or not I saw the current rise 5-10% as the LED's warmed up.

Long story short, you need to waste more power with resistors if you want your blink rate to slow down. If you're okay with it fast then remove any resistor loads you may have. At least then it would be a constant rate. Personally I'd remove the resistors and let it blink fast since it will lessen the load on your stator.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Hey Guys...
Last summer a couple of us were tossing about the idea of doing a trip down to the infamous Tail of the Dragon this year.
My holidays are July 14-29 (can't change them - it's a shop shut down).

Was thinking of a 4-5 day trip. Leave first thing (i.e. 6am) on a Sunday morning, ride Monday - Wednesday, return on the Thursday or Friday.

If enough of us are interested and can commit soon, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to book a cabin instead of individual hotel rooms (will save us some money).
Gary (from Hamilton) has told me he'll go anytime, SpyRadar (Jin) is very much interested, and so is one of his friends. That potentially makes 4.

Anyone else? I can take my bike in the bed of my Ranger and tow a trailer as well (1 bike only to be on the safe side in the mountains).

Guys I would love to go down with you all. But won't be able to do it this year. Heading the finger lakes in NY end of June. That's the wife and my holidays off together.
Sorry to hear about all the crap you had to put up with from the HD dealer.

Thanks for moving it Dave. Still getting use to GTAM on the phone.

If I take out the 2 capacitors in the tail think that's be enough? It's easier to access than the fronts.

Thanks

Jer

Did you use capacitors or resistors?

I personally like the faster blink rate as I believe it will catch someones eye mor ethen the slow blinking.

Yeah, you shouldn't have capacitors anywhere, except maybe on the input of the DDM units to provide inrush current, but even those should be inside the ballasts. Removing the ones from the back should be enough to make them blink fast, but when you feel like tinkering in the next 2.5 months you should get all of them out. They're robbing precious HP! ;)

I like the fast blink too. I used to hate it, but I only hate it when using LED's or mini's on only one end of the bike, and normal sized lights on the other end because the bigger ones don't always light up enough during the fast blink. My 929 is like that. I need to fit some LED front markers.

Check post 17#

You might need a Flasher unit to get it to flash right - The following install is for the SV1000

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Got some bad news today boys. I'm off the streets until Mid August. Statefarm wont renew me until than because of to many speeding tickets, witch was never on a bike :S. I even started sleeping with the agent but still can't get insurance.

Looks like my money is going to track riding this year!

Are you sure its not the other way around? You started sleeping with the agent and now she won't give you insurance :D

I put the LED blinker in my SV around 30 bux including shipping from germany took about a week. Fixed the flash speed right up.

Sorry to hear man! I have one in court today and that will give me 2. so this coming season I'll have to be Ms Daisy like LOL

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Thanks for the advise guys.

think I'm going to pick up some new wire and re-wire it with out the capacitors in either end. (need new wire bc of all the splicing had to do to get the marker lights wired up as signals. This way it will be and look a lot cleaner then all these splices and connectors lol)

@JeffJones not sure if they are resistors or capacitors, the dealer said Oxford brand had everything I need with it to get the right flasher speed.

I don't mind the fast blink either as long as everything works properly and doesnt cause me to blow fuses and give me grief :)

Dave....... feel like helping a buddy out? I'll get the beer and Tim will probably be there to help us drink it LOL

I'd like to do it right and make it look good.

Thanks

Women don't like guys to seizure ontop of them for 30 seconds? It's the only move I got!

Yea thats the best bet for you SV thats all plug and play if I wanted to do that on my cat i would have to wire a flasher into the into the harness like in my link. would be a Pain in the buttock but i realy want LED all around so probably do it this year.

Getting good at all this wireing stuff since i bought a bike :lmao:
