The Official Ongoing Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

I put the LED blinker in my SV around 30 bux including shipping from germany took about a week. Fixed the flash speed right up.

So I just replace the OEM one and it fixes it on its own? Or remove all the capacitors still add this flasher and it fixes the speed of the flash to stock speed.

(I'm so new to wiring LOL give me body work, tires or anything else LOL)

from the ebay ad

7-pins, simply exchange with existing relay. Will retain all original functions: side stand, fuel pump, hazard flashing etc.
Yea seems so

ya read that....but I asked if I have to remove the 4 old capacitors first or if leaving them in matters?

I'm guessing removing them is probably best.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Thanks for the advise guys.

think I'm going to pick up some new wire and re-wire it with out the capacitors in either end. (need new wire bc of all the splicing had to do to get the marker lights wired up as signals. This way it will be and look a lot cleaner then all these splices and connectors lol)

When you say marker light into turn signals.
Were the marker lights always on, or always on and flashed with the signal?
Do you remember if they are 2 or 3 wire?

The marker lights are (were) in my case always on.

We spliced them into the front signals to make them useful after installing the HID's

They were a 2 wire originally (each one)

Ok,

I just know a cheap trick so that if they were running/turn signals (3 wire) and you replace them with LED signals (2 Wire) you can use diodes to keep them running/turn signals instead of just turn signals.
I should have watch the full youtube video as I didn't see the markers in your headlight as the HID's just drowned them out lol, :D I thought you replaced them with the LED ones.

If your going with the relay as mentioned I would get rid of all extra capacitors and resistors as they won't be needed anymore and might just cause more problems then good when installing the relay.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

If anyone else is interested, Jer (09Sv650S) and I are going for a beer at Morty's at 8pm....
Come on out if you want.

haha I did replace the marker bulb with an LED one. The iPhone video is hard to see them in but IRL there are noticeable. Just a shame I couldnt get the two LEDS matched colours. Different companies = different shades of yellow apparently :-/

Thanks Jeff!

If you want the normal blink rate, Scuba Steve and Two50noob are right. Get the proper flasher relay, and remove the resistors (there's not way they're capacitors...). If you're okay with the fast attention getting blink, just remove the resistors. In either case, the resistors have to go, they're wasteful and silly. Can I have the resistors? I'm betting they're the perfect type I need in the power supply the guitar amplifier I'm building. ;)

Removed the 2 in the tail yesterday and everything working much better..... I did save the two old ones if you want them?

Do you need the two in the front? If so then I'll tare apart the front and re-wire but was going to wait till the next time I have to remove the front for some reason.

Let me know :)

Thanks! No rush, either way. I've got what I need for the amp I'm building right now. What value are they?

No value buddy. They're yours if you want them. :)

haha... you mean they're of no value? ;) I meant what resistance are they. Doesn't matter, I'll take 'em! Thanks.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

So hear is a questions I want to do full LED conversion on the Kat.. Although dash can wait till next year. So i buy the bulbs for the signals and get the flasher but when it comes to the rear if i want to get some of thouse fancy shaped chrome plastic ones they always have on dispay kinda like these http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/2/10/212/26919/DPITEM/Dirt-Bike-Motocross-Turn-Signals-DMP-Diamond-LED-Turn-Signal.aspx?SiteID=SLI|Led%20Turn%20Signals&WT.MC_ID=10010

Will the flasher still work with these or do i need a relay?

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Replacing any blinkers with LED's will decrease the load, which makes it blink fast as if there is a bulb burnt out.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

So then replaceing the flasher unit in the bike will solve it for both rear and fronts

It should. There is only one flasher for the whole bike.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

was very tempted to jump on today!

I went out for couple hours was nice.
