The Official Ongoing Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

If the weather is nice enuf thursday ill meet up with you guys ...im a friend of Machine's

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Like, repaved tar and chip or just the normal gravel on roads action? There are rumours that some residents like to throw gravel on the road to try to slow down (kill) riders.

We could also hit Guelph Line, SR25 and SR15. It's a fair bit closer than either Forks or Snake.

That's exactly what I was thinking!

Don't worry, we won't hold that against you! :p

I sure have thought about it, but because the original isn't working right I can't be sure of the coil DC resistance and wouldn't want to overload the ECM.

I do have a different power supply that I want to use for my garage car audio amp that doesn't have an annoying fan (no fan at all) but it works right now, so I'm spending my time on more important things. haha...

It's 6:30.....but there's not a lot of standing around, it's more like a 'meet at 6:30 then leave'. If you want a coffee or something before we ride maybe show up a little early.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Hey guys if I need some work done have a rattle in the engine when it's cold( goes away when warmed up) not sure if it's valves for cam chain...but what shops would you recommend and what ones would you stay away from

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Honestly I can't recommend any shops anymore....

Does the rattle go away within seconds or minutes after starting the bike?

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Goes away after its normal warm up time about five to ten mins. I always ride it to warm it up so I don't know how long if I just let it sit

That's why I'm thinking valves more than cams

Yea - I'm with Dave... not a lot of love for the local shops.

Engine rattling should be fairly easy to diagnose. Do you have a shop manual - if not, then get one. Then its just process of elimination. You can use a screwdriver as a stethoscope to determine exactly what/where the rattle is occuring.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

...or piston slap. How many km's?

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

25k or so ..What's piston slap and how do I used the screw driver as a stethascope something tells me that would be a useful skill

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Piston slap can happen if the bore is worn, causing a gap where the piston can slap forward and back. Could also be bearing or wrist pin clatter, but all are unlikely at only 25k.

Take a screw driver and put the handle against your ear and touch the engine with the business end. Hunt around for the loudest spots.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

I will give that ago I just fired her up today and could barely hear anything. I'm not to worried about it but probably needs valves done anyway
