The Official Ongoing Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Had to leave the pack early to get things packed for the cottage.

Since everyone is bad with names, I added a quick name list to the first page. Let me know if I missed anyone, got the wrong info, want to add info, or if you don't want to be there.

The guy that came out with me the last times was Marcin on the YZF-R6 and his Brother is Paul on the Championship R6. Both aren't on the forum but will show up most times.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Hey guys - yea great ride yesterday. Good to meet a few new riders too.

Would have been better with a little more speed (& more cowbell)... but still fun.

I've got a few ideas for dealing with riding behind slow traffic ( most of them are not really legal).... maybe some flashing lights / siren... and a loud speaker that commands "pull the f over!"... then I'll need one of those emergency vehicle devices that can change traffic lights... hmm.. some ebay parts... internet schematics... (I can see that I'm not going to have a very productive day at work)

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

haha... I have a solution for that Dean, leave work and let's go for a ride. I'm off today. I'm on the verge of cleaning the basement. HELP ME ESCAPE! hahaha

Katatonic is David and rides a 750 Katana

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Just saw a big convoy of bikes going down bridgeport.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Mosport races were pretty good, but big thunderstorm came right before (literally 5 minutes before) the superbike race so that was a wet race, boo... still exciting, good day.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Well, Friday's forecast is showing 26c and sunny.....
Let's hope that doesn't change and we can zip down to Grand Bend...
Hmmm.. .ok, you guys can ride and I can snap some shots!

Later!

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

That sounds f'n perfect! Let's keep our fingers crossed. My bike is already in track trim. :)

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Remember that post about the cheap track suits I posted up earlier?
Guy from the other site got his (guess he sent the first one back 'cause it was too big - free exchange shipping in the US), and here's his review:

"I got my suit exchange back from Jackets4bikes. The 46 fits me MUCH better than the 48 did. Night and day. The thighs fit nicely, everything is snug, just an overall great fit.
I couldn't help myself, I threw the suit on and headed out for a quick 10 minute ride. An hour later I'm back in the house with a huge grin on my face.

Overall it is fairly comfortable, especially on the bike. It's on the warm side, I would definitely prefer a perf version, but how can I complain about a $200 that fits this well? The armor all lines up where it should, the construction looks solid. The only thing I would warn you about, is don't wear anything nice underneath it...when I got back from my ride (which I didn't sweat much on) the white workout shirt I had underneath had black on it from the suit leather bleeding dye. Right along the zipper, where there is no liner, only leather touching. I can't imagine a higher end suit doing that. But again, it's a $200 suit that fits really nicely, and is sufficiently soft. I can only imagine how a real top dollar suit must feel.

Overall very happy with the suit, and at the price it simply cannot be beat. If you are looking for an entry level track suit, something just to start out in on track days, and don't want to break the bank, this is absolutely it."

Sounds like it would be good for spring/fall track days, but hot for the summer.
I sent him a PM regarding his size to see how he compares to me. Haven't heard back as of yet, as I just sent it a few minutes ago.

EDIT -- Says he's 6'1", 240 lbs with a beer belly and 45" chest. Size 46 is what makes him happy.

You going for one of those suits Tim? I'm curious about the seams, if they're double stitched or whatever they do.

So, route to Grand Bend, I was planning on going across 83 to Exeter and cutting down the 2nd to Crediton Rd but I came up with this route today, seems better. It's a bit scenic, but fairly direct. I know all of the roads and they're in good condition.

Looks good!.. Now we just have to wait until friday... tick....tock....

Anyone thinking about riding this evening?

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Friday will be good. Rented a 200mm f2.8 prime lens for the day. Hope it shows up on time for me to get there early on in the afternoon. With any luck it'll be at Henry's by 11am.

I think i will order a suit at some point this winter, but not right now. All my extra cash is going to my Scotland trip in a few weeks.

That, and I'm still waiting for my referee cheques from ball hockey and summer ice hockey (which should pay out in the middle of September).

I'm thinking this one (especially if they can get me one with perforated front chest and leg panels).

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Awesome Tim! Hopefully you'll be able to get out into the field with the marshals and get some really sweet shots.

That suit looks pretty decent. For $200 it's certainly worth a try!

Does anybody know what track layout Racer5 is going to try on Friday? Their site says this:

Car lapping this Thursday evening, Bikes on Friday

Lapping for this week is as follows - Thursday evening - Cars, Friday day - Bikes . The track that will be used this coming Thursday is the Modified track - a good mixture of tight & flowing turns, followed by the long straight and sweeping carousel.

Friday's configuration will be the same one the Ducati club will be using on the weekend.

Please call the track to sign up 519 238 7223.

So that answers the question about whether to call Racer5 or the track to register... but I need to find out what track the Ducati club is using.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Just signed up, woo!

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

She said that she wasn't sure about start time, nor track config and said she would call me to let me know. Apparently at the previous lapping day they started at 10:00! Hopefully that means they go until 6:00.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

LOL... sounds like a plan! ;)

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Actually, starting late suits me just fine.. as long as they run late that is of course.
I may not be able to pick up my rental lens until closer to 12pm... travel of just under 2 hours, quick set up, and away we go!

Tested out the high speed multi shot tonight. Looks like I'll have to turn off the RAW+JPEG and just shoot JPEG to keep up a rate of 3 shots per second. If I keep the RAW on it gets about 4 shots before dropping to 1 shot every 1.5 or so seconds... after all, it's writing about 25Mb per shot to the card saving both formats. Turn off JPEG, it gets 5 shots before bogging.

Hoping to get some half decent shots, and maybe consider starting a track/race photography side business next year. Gotta pay for what may be a budding track addiction ya know...

What do you guys think would be a fair price for shots? The guys down at the Dragon charge about $6-15 per shot depending on how many you buy. Equipment is around $3.5-4K, travel and fuel costs etc... would need to sell quite a few to make it worth while. Was thinking maybe $50 per CD as well. Try to break it down to 1 CD per riding group (beginner, intermediate, advanced). Think people may balk at that though.

Thoughts?
