The Official Ongoing Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

Without making major setup changes to my SV when going from track to street it's just way too harsh. I would need to change the fork springs and shock spring to make it actually comfortable for upright street riding and street pace cornering. Plus the fact that seat isn't great for longer rides and the bars are too low... It's a lot of fun and handles well on the track though, so I have no plans to get rid of it, and I would recommend an SV to anyone getting into track riding.
Dave,
I'm exercising this track bike idea in my head. Does the year of a bike matter? I'm thinking if it is fuel injected it should be good? Also heard that stock SV650 suspension is not that great. Did you simply change springs and fork oil or did you replace the whole units?
Thanks.

There are still some guys racing gen1 (carbed, with the curvy frame) SV's and you can find them used for good prices. The only thing "wrong" with them would be that they're not current. The Gen2 is essentially the same from 2003-2011. 2004 they changed the rear sub-frame by making it lower and also had lower footpeg brackets.

Stock SV suspension is slightly better than total garbage. haha... I did not go to the track until I had upgraded everything because I knew I would hate it and I would have crashed for sure. I did springs, race-tech emulator valves and 20w oil in the forks, and I got an Elka rear shock (used from a racer). You could probably get by with the rear shock for a while (you look like you're a lot lighter than me) but you should upgrade the front. Depending on your pace, you may be okay with stock for a while but I wouldn't recommend risking it for too long and finding out the hard way that you need upgrades. I helped my friend upgrade his forks on his street SV with only doing springs and heavier oil and he says even that was night-and-day difference, so you could do that first and then decide if you need valving later.

Amusing situation tonight....
On the way home from Dean's (Machine here on GTA) place. Come to a set of lights and some schmuck in a Civic with a fart cannon exhaust tried to get me to race him... come on.. a fart cannon vs. my Babs? Really? Just shook my head at him in disbelief that he actually thought he could win this one....

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

LOL... gotta love the Honda boys. I had it happen on the 401 when I had my 929. Some dudes in an RSx thought they could beat me.

Regarding Trailer Space Etc...

Hey Guys. Noticing that trailer space can be a bit of a dilemma for several people here (have to borrow appropriate vehicles, borrow trailers, rely on others for space etc).

Skimmed Kijiji, several half decent options available there... then expanded my search to include Horse Trailers.
For $1500, you can get a fiberglass fully enclosed trailer, tandem axle with electric brakes. Sure, it'll need a cleaning, some fresh paint inside and some floor rings, but not bad overall. There are a few trailers like this available, all under $2000 asking price.

Just a thought for anyone who may be interested... that's all....

Later!

i always go into a full tuck, to give them a false sense of hope, and than sit up, wave.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

It not the trailer it storing the thing. I sold my 2 rail bike trailer because I have no where to store it and I keep my big trailer in guelph at work. It's a pain to bring it home overnight because you can't park anything on the road in Waterloo.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

The Waterloo U-Haul also has a bike trailer for rent. $14.95/24hrs. A 5x9 is like $24.95/24hrs. Would it be possible to install and remove your own wheel chocks and anything else on a U-Haul trailer?

I drive an RSX Type S! But I'm more so part of the HEART group...Honda Enthusiasts Against Ricer Trash.

Actually, if you call the city's parking enforcement with a date of needed parking and license plate number, you can get up to something like 15 exceptions a year.

Re: The Official 2011 Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread.

If anyone needs new tires, Zdeno's got Avon VP2 Sport and Supersport (track oriented) tires on sale for $200 a set. 2 different tire combos available. 180/55/17 with usual front (120/70/17 sound right? working off memory) and same for a 190 series tire.

Anyone want to buy me a set? I'll give you the following in trade:
GoPro Hero 720p
Suction cup mount
Roll cage mount
Flat and Curved sticky mounts (1 each)
Anti-vibration dohickey (rubber "U" for mounts)
3 Clips which fit into sticky mounts (2 short, 1 tall)
Case with Waterproof and Regular Back
USB and Video Cables
1 Extra non-oem Battery
1 8Gb SD Card.

Would need to give me receipt and tires with factory stickers (same condition you picked them up in) so I can get Zdeno's cheaper mounting rate in the spring.
