The country isn't doing fine. Our economy has been hurt badly by the Conservatives emphasis on The West and the oil patch, to the exclusion of things like manufacturing in Ontario. Also, while it's nice to see taxes like the GST drop, they reduced their predictable income while anticipating funds from oil revenues that have dried up. This, while actually increasing spending. Then, in order to make it look like they balanced the budget, they raided funds that had been set aside for specific purposes. That would be like you borrowing against your RRSP to pay off your credit card debt, then declaring that you had balanced your finances.
the country is doing fine especially compared to the rest of the world..I do business with owners in every sector you can imagine from mom and pop to heavy multinational industry so I see the frontline and what's happening .....I'm sorry but if you could have predicted oil prices dropping you would have shorted it and made a ton of money. Most did not see that coming, the east is booming with oil the last few years too so your point isn't valid.
i have many manufacturing clients in Ontario and the common thread is not the conservatives causing them problems it's China period. So you tell me what policies would have made canada better today? Our standard and quality of living is very high. I don't see where any other government would have done anything differently to put us in a better place now. I am not a Conservative party member I would vote who I think is best but this Harper bashing over a steak dinner Canadians do is a joke.
Bump minimum wage to $20/hr. That'll fix everything..............

My point that the Conservatives are favouring an industry that in the area that is their base and from which Harper had previously been employed is invalid, because it also has an effect on Newfoundland? Sorry, you need to get real. OK, so a few wealthy people would have become more wealthy "... if you could have predicted oil prices dropping..."? That does nothing for the value of the Canadian dollar, which directly impacts the average Canadian every day of his life. The Conservatives are also responsible for the recent trade agreements, if you want to point out the impact of China on Canadian manufacturing.
Oh, I'm not giving them a free ride either. We're talking about the Federal election though.

I'm not too worried about environmental issues, hell my lawn went brown back in July - because I can't afford to water it as well as run out aging central air unit.
Let's all take a moment and deal with the finances of our country first, that should be the focus of our election, not pot legalization, not daycare, just put every Canadian on the best footing possible to be as profitable (and taxable) as the next.

You aren't making any sense. Should they favour an industry that isnt making money worldwide? What industry should they have favoured the last 8 years? Please enlighten us.
The Canadian dollar being low is also a great thing for our manufacturing base so why is that a negative when you mentioned manufacturing earlier.
the dollar being low impacts Canadians in a good way except for travel which puts dollars out of the country anyway.
trade agreements with China dont make any difference when factory workers get 25 cents an hour.
When I meet with every industry like I said from small to large I see what the economy is doing so please read the CBC article I posted. You are just squawking because you don't like Harper, conservatives, rich people, oil or whatever it is you think you should be against at the moment.

Extreme examples notwithstanding, I am interested in this and would like to find out all the party's stances. However it seems to be next to impossible to find where any party has out and out picked a side, everything is hearsay (... or heresy might be more correct depending on your stance). I found one article about the Liberal stance (which seemed) to straddle the lines and not answer the question. The Conservatives were pushing for a more "common sense" approach, but nothing seems to have come it, yet. And I can't seem to find an official position from the NDP.
