reading this article, its hard to feel sorry for these players.

Suggesting they are being treated like pieces of meat, like animals, sounds asinine

do these idiots not know how lucky they are to be playing a game for a living, and getting paid millions for it ?

who here wouldnt trade jobs with the lowest paid person in the NHL lol

I did a fast search, and found the lowest paid player in the NHL in 2006 was 450,000

i'll assume that its more now

I'll trade places with them for 1/2 that, and be very, very happy

those, poor, poor players. treated so bad.

I wouldn't trade.

look at how long the average NHL career is... for like your 3rd liner.

What annoys me even more than the lock out is that TSN still spends 15 minutes out of the hour reporting on it.

Sometimes we're not happy with what we have, we want more. Human nature. I'm guilty myself

Sent from my phone using my paw

They should have just called up the Marlie, etc... and all the farm teams to replace those players on a temp contract. I'm sure there's a legal way around it if it's temporary.

Marlies have a better chance at winning anyway lol

Maybe they should have used their hockey skills to get a scholarship and an education....

Maybe, but I am just referring to the fact that the OP made it seem like anyone would trade with them. I am just saying I wouldn't.

I wouldn't trade with a lot of other careers either.

Hmmm make a few million in a few short years and retire early? That doesn't sound like the most terrible career to me. lol.

It's not just a paycheck, when your livelihood depends on your ability to perform, stay healthy and entertain.
In that regard, the animal reference makes sense.

At what cost would you take hits to the head on a regular basis? At a professional level, it's the equivalent of being in several car accidents at the end of every game. Multiply that by 82 games/year and yea, you NEED that money so you're not chewing mush at age 40.

Are some of them overpaid prima donna princesses? absolutely. But they're not all millionaires either. By the time everyone gets their cut, they'll be lucky to have half of what's owed to them.

Then maybe the players should be taking this opportunity to discuss amongst themselves these problems. Other players are putting on hard padding, other players are the ones leading elbow-first to the head.

If they don't respect eachother enough to play clean, why should we care?

^^^ ok, so lowest paid 6 years ago was 450,000

like someone else stated.. play for 3 years, and quit

now you have a house with no mortgage, cars paid for, everything you want, and then some, plus money in the bank.

now pick up a job for 10 bucks an hour and live your life.

these players dont know how lucky they have it.

opengambit seems to be doing better than most people, he doesnt need $$$ it seems.

i have an average job, average pay, and I would switch in a microsecond.

What's stopping you from changing your average job/average pay?

I agree with you totally, and honestly, I've given up on the NHL. This was the lockout that broke the camel's back, if you will.

I was just trying to toss in some different perspective.

Call it 500,000 for 3 years. after taxes that works out to about $290,000 a year (using 2012 tax rates). So you pocket... 870,000. And you most definately won't be spending like a guy making 30 grand a year during those three years

Say what you what about me, I just know how to do math. and I know that is a ****** career path. It ain't Mcdonalds, but its less than just about every professional in Canada.

I am not saying that they don't make decent money. I am just saying that considering their career length, job prospects aftewards and working conditions, its not the OMG ANYONE WOULD TRADE WITH THEM situation you like to pretend it is.
