The NHL'ers are treated like animals

In a roundabout way, don't they all at any company??

What Jay is saying is that no one goes to the ACC to watch the front office skate. Or the coach stand about in a suit. What is on ice is the draw. And for that they (the players) should be rewarded. What is flawed though is the system they work in.

Too many corporate shleps in the ACC for hockey games anyway.

NHL players make the third most money of the major sports leagues, with an average salary of $2.4 million. There are 23 players on each of the 30 NHL teams, for a total of 690 players.
Average AHL player makes $60,000 and You get better Hockey in my eyes....

I love hockey, I play the sport.. I say kick NHL to the curb and let the AHL players show us what Hockey is all about....

Similar to why i like US College football more than the NFL sometimes. People playing it because they eat, sleep, breathe, live and die by the pigskin.. They aren't playing it for the pay.

The same could be said for any sport.

Go watch a 2nd division Football match in England and then compare it to the crap that is shoveled every weekend by the Premier league.

Motogp............

So who's watching the Vanier Cup and the Grey Cup this weekend?

Mac and Laval is gonna be a good game. Last time they played they went into Double OT!

and the Argo's are going to walk away with a victory. They're peaking at the right time and getting the lucky bounces. Don't see Calgary holding it together for the full game.

Yup I'm rooting for Mac - Go Aram Eisho - All Star Line Backer! He's going to bring the cup home for Mac!

Im going to disagree. 90% of the population would switch jobs with the scenario you described. And you used the low end of the $ scale. Whats the average player make? $1 million a year, and the usa tax brackets are less than here so they would easily bring in $500 K a year.

Maybe you dont like hockey, how about getting paid that much to ride a motorbike as your job.....trackdays, touring, whatever.......would you trade jobs then?

No. I wouldn't trade if it was riding motorbikes. The only reason I would consider a trade would be the ability to lend a famous name to the social causes that matter. It wouldn't be for the pay.

How are they any different from other athletes that dedicate tens of thousands of hours to their sport but don't make any money?

If a young hockey player's dream is to get rich, they're stupid. The odds of it happening are so small that the dream itself is idiotic. If a young hockey player's dream is to play amongst the best in the world, that is an honest dream.

I don't know, maybe the fact that people will pay to watch hockey? If you want to spend time to get good at a sport that not very many people care about then all the power to you.

Considering how much effort and dedication it takes to get good enough to make money at the sport I'd say it's foolish not to do it to make a living.

People pay to go to see Olympic events too. I have paid to go see Western hockey games. I am almost certain American College football and basketball games are not free to spectators.

Speaking of people who care about a sport.. Every day that the lock out continues fewer people care about hockey. I have recently decided that unless the system changes I will never pay to attend an NHL hockey game.

YUP and not cheap hottest ticket of London 2012.These are the average ticket prices for the most popular Olympic sports:

  • Swimming - Tickets to swimming events were the most expensive of all athletic events, going on the secondary market for an average of $713.80, a 242 percent premium over their average face value of $208.64

  • Track and Field - Aside from the Opening Ceremonies, track and field tickets generally had the highest face values to begin with (the average cost is $344.88). Track and Field tickets fetched $569 on average, with prime Gold Medal sessions going for closer to $1,000.

  • Men’s Basketball - The average premium over face value for a basketball ticket on the secondary market is 148 percent, the third highest of any Olympic event. Although tickets originally sold for an average of $167.92, the current resale price is $416.47, nearly a $250 increase. Tickets to see USA Basketball in action during even preliminary rounds were going for $500 and up.
