The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

This whole thing is a crap fest based on athletic people using the lanes in optimum conditions.
If you put aside the fear of riding in traffic (which is real and justified), you don't need much fitness to ride downtown. Often speeds are low and you get frequent breaks at lights. Ime, it is less effort than walking a similar route. Obviously, in some locations there are hill climbs that are pretty rough but ebikes (I mean pedelecs) are a great fit for those.

It would be interesting to look at the travel times over a whole year, 24/7. Include allowances for older people that might be using adult trikes.

Fix the public transit system. Fix the bad driver system. Fix the "Gotta work downtown" mentality. Fix obesity. Do those and the need for bike lanes will disappear.
I would happily use mass transit if it didn't cost virtually the same amount as using my car, while also costing me at least double the amount of time. And I do work downtown, while living in the suburbs, and never had the opportunity for a job remotely like the one that I have now prior to that. At least I currently get to work from home, 3 days a week, so I don't need to deal with that crapshow nearly as much anymore.

At least it was ION and not a motorcycle. Obviously that driver needs a hard reset in their situational awareness and driving skills.

Grainy, but looked like a Prius, so good luck with any awareness or driving improvements.

Dodge. Not much above prius drivers. I wonder what happens with insurance when you hit a train? No fault doesn't apply to the train so the car drivers insurance picks up that bill too?

Taken at almost exactly 4:00pm. What happens when 5:00pm hits and more people start moving around? Lot starts to fill up and this jerk is in the way.

EDIT - This, folks, is why you scrub the EXIF data from anything that you post online. Sometimes GPS data is also included.

Funny thing is that got to the conclusion that the photo was flipped much faster than he did, but then got stuck :ROFLMAO:

Not only don't forget that photos can be flipped, but also remember that photos can be denoised ;)

Most large transport corporations - think TTC, GO Transit, and railroads are big enough that they are self insurers.
Expect a long fight if you ever took one of them to court.

His insurance might not pick up any of it.. if he's convicted.

Not strictly driver related, but adjacent enough that it probably belongs here more than the law enforcement thread.

I didn't find out about the shooting incident on 401, at 410, until this morning. I seems that I went through there maybe 30 minutes before the incident. When I did, there was a white minivan (at least I think that's what it was) that seemed to have hydroplaned and done a 180 into the guardrail on the right of 401. You can see the road crew dealing with the aftermath of that in the video that CP24 posted abut the shooting. Now I'm wondering if the shooter was driving that minivan and after crashing it, started looking for his next jacking victim. I'll need to download the videos from my dashcam to see if there's anything in it, but other vehicles were kicking up a lot of spray.

No need. He's in custody.

Was already on bail and prohibited from owning a firearm, so he probably won't get bail till mid next week.
For me it's more about personal curiosity as I haven't seen anything mentioned about the other vehicle, apart from the guy who provided the dashcam video to CP24 mentioning that traffic was slowed because of a previous accident.

Sometimes I am in favor of police giving idiots a punch to the face. Not much brain to damage if they think this is acceptable. A $110 ticket is meaningless.

Now if only truckers would clear those hundred pound sheets of ice of their trailers, that I seem to be constantly dodging.
That one is interesting. Health and safety basically blocks the trucker from doing it manually as fall-arrest is legally required. A reasonable solution would be to require every location where more than X trailers parked to have the arch to clean the top (or alternate safe and effective solution). They are very rare right now. I know of one in Barrie.

And, until then, I'll be staying well away from transports during winter. You have no idea how many times I'm had to swerve across a lane or two in order to avoid a 6 foot plus slab of ice that gets blown off the roof of a trailer.

I know a bit about snow and ice. The problem has become very complex since we stopped depending on bungalows for accommodation and Conestoga wagons for transportation of goods.

The CN Tower has a problem with ice shedding as well. I dd a study on it and there's no easy answer. Many downtown buildings are the same, streets and sidewalks closed.

With the buildings, in particular weather situations, snow hits the windows and melts due to them being warm. The runoff trickles down to the well insulated panels below and freezes into clear sheets. When the sun comes out the radiant heat penetrates the ice and heats the panel, causing the bond to break. Gravity does the rest. Look out below.
If anyone can invent a coating that stops the runoff from adhering they will be well on to their way to being a billionaire.

For the trucks, cures will be expensive or dangerous. Aircraft deicing uses chemicals. Manual systems can damage roofs. All cost money in a largely unregulated industry.

Don't forget about the snow buildup on the back of vehicles while they're driving. Sometimes the rear lights and license plate are fully obscured.
