At least you weren't far from home.....And I had 2+ cars in the vicinity, none of them even bothered to see if either of us was okay.
Stand up citizens we've got here.
That sucks, I hope you are all good and things are dealt with easily.
Just a question I'm asking myself after watching the video that would be interesting to get opinion on...looking at that road with nothing on the right hand side, was there a need to come to a complete stop?
I will always pull over and slow for emergency vehicles but if there is a median and no turning ability for them directly in front of me while they are on the other side of the road I will slowly advance.
Not attacking you Boots or saying you were in the wrong, just wanted to get opinions.

Very true, you were 100% in the right since you were barely even moving to begin with. I was just curious to see if I was the only one who thought that.I more than likely would not have gotten in the way of the ambulance, but regardless there are many times in which you wont get in the way of the ambulance, you still as the MTO and HTA state bring your car to an immediate but safe stop. my stop was immediate in that as soon as I saw it I stopped the car, and it was safe in that it wasn't abrupt and I had my brake lights lit up the whole way. I had the intention of signalling but saw her coming and chose to brace for impact instead
in this case I and the car to my left didn't enter and I had the intention of going through after the emergency vehicle has passed as per the law states.
just to be clear, she made no attempt to stop and went full speed into my back, had I accelerated when the light had gone green, knowing my car I would be at 20 to 25 while she still plows into me at 60 to 70.
yeah that's no problem I don't mind clarifying why I did what I did.Very true, you were 100% in the right since you were barely even moving to begin with. I was just curious to see if I was the only one who thought that.
The light had just turned turned from red and like you said (and could tell in the video) she didn't even attempt to slow at all. Glad your all good, even though the car is toast.

unlike here https://m.reddit.com/r/TorontoDriving/comments/48tprw/rear_ended/
these guys are trying to tell me that I should have knew a couple hundred metres back she was going to hit me and therefore should have went through the intersection.
they're suggesting in a rear wheel drive, manual car on salted roads with traction control on that I perfectly launch the car and miraculously avoid the accident by accelerating to 50 in the above conditions - an accident which I should have known was coming a couple hundred metres ago.
gotta love armchair drivers. avoid the unavoidable.
That was a gem."Well who got hit? You only have yourself to blame." Clearly, that guy has no idea how fault and responsibility work.
I think some of them are trolls and some are completely serious.... and it's hard to figure out which ones worse.Just read through some of those comments on reddit, I don't know what some people are smoking or if they didn't even bother to watch the video.

Could be worse, could be YouTube comments where a reply apparently must be formulated using at least 1 curse word for every 3 regular words, is highly unlikely to include punctuation, and is typically generally borderline unintelligible. Bonus points if you can throw in gay slurs as part of your reply.
