We finally got some snow that stayed down. The road would at least be wet. It's straight and wide open, so people will do well above the posted limit. And it kind of is the top of Brampton, these days.
Actually as I recall in the news story, the roads were clear and dry on both occasions. I think the first one resulted from a fail to stop at the stop sign. The other as you noted probably speed related, or unsafe pass.
Pickup drivers, in general, tend to be the most aggressive drivers that I run into on the roads. Euro brands and Tesla drivers come in second. VW drivers, for some reason, manage third place. Everyone else seems to be one-offs.
I bag on the rock slingers, dump trucks, and transport drivers being idiots climbing the Escarpment on #6N all the time and it's probably brushed off as an old man yells at trucks scenario..................
Unfortunately, a picture showing a yellow would never be considered sufficient proof. And another issue, that seems to be particularly prevalent in the GTA, is the number of drivers who think that sneaking through after their advanced green has gone red is perfectly acceptable. Current red light cameras tech doesn't address this. I've had to wait for as many as 5 left turning cars to clear an intersection after the advanced has gone red, and the oncoming through light for me is green. All 5 are frequently behind the stop line and enter the intersection on the amber or red.
You know at one point I was 100% against red light, speeding camera's filthy cash grab and all that...
Now, to a degree I am in favor of them, policing the roads is ineffective, no one seems to care of understand why traffic laws/rules are in place.
Our license system has failed might as well cash in on people lack of patience... I would not be surprised to see Brampton as the #1 traffic camera location in Ontario if not Canada..
He was just speed limiting not throttle limiting (although you can technically get a 172 for acceleration, I haven't heard of anyone getting it). Also, he was only doing it after a conviction. I'm ok with most conditions after conviction. Fafo.

As many of the charges under 172 have a test that is subject to the opinion of the officer, you can pretty much be done because the officer had a bad day.

You could make it so speed limiter only applied to excessive speeding convictions. That bypasses most of the officer discretion crap. I am still very much for very visible vehicle labeling. If you have more than one DUI, put a huge DUI sticker on your rear window (like the N for new drivers in BC). If you have a 172 conviction (and most of the charges don't turn into convictions), force a 172 sticker on your window. That lets all surrounding drivers and cops know you have a propensity to drive poorly. A little public shaming is fine with me.
Happened to a buddy. Prosecutor tried to plead out with a 49 over speeding. Judge tossed the case as the OPP bike cop was under investigation for towing corruption.
Judge wouldn’t deal with the $2000 tow/impound costs… he called that a civil matter and suggested small claims court.

Left on green was specifically called out in 172 as a valid reason. You don't even need to accelerate much. If you turn in before oncoming traffic (even if oncoming is a braindead zombie looking at their phone with no clue the light has changed) they can get you.
