The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Another dump truck with a raised box hit a sign on the 401 near thickson. Driver noticed the hit and lowered their box while still at speed. Eventually pulled over. News has video, I didn't see an easy one I can link. No idea if they waited around for the cops or if they took off. MTO needs to start sending insurance companies a seven figure bill as a minimum every time this happens. The traffic impact is far more than that yet alone the emergency repairs.

First thing on the CP24 website, so easy to find right now.

I truly have no idea why there are cars right on the truck's butt, with the box raised like that. It's like following a tractor trailer that has a huge chunk of ice visible on the trailer, in winter, only dumber.

Somewhere I saw a truck that coupled the box to a drop down sign when the box was up. Lever, pivot point, sign. It doesn't require NASA engineering.

I think they're all required to have a light or buzzer in the cab when box is up. Too focused on watching TV to pay attention to it.

Every single one of them is on the phone. 9 out of 10 drivers that come to my work are on headsets and don't even stop talking to whoever's on the other end while you're trying to get the paperwork from them. You're an inconvenience to them carrying on their conversation.

Not sure if this is a 'bad driver' per se...but I'm literally seeing more and more cars simply driving without plates front or back. Just on my way to work today pulled up to a sweet blue Charger, no plates. Nothing up front, nothing in the back, just tootling along without a care in the world.

Did you check the windows? Might have been running with a temp paper plate.

Not just Brampton. I see that behaviour every day, in downtown Toronto. Some people don't want to wait to make the right turn from Yonge south to Lakeshore west, so they blow by everyone and make the right from the left lane. Habitually. The same people will then drive all the way along in the third lane until the Gardiner exit, at York, and force their way in at the head of the line. Sadly, there's always some schmuck who will let them in, so there's no one 'correcting' this behaviour.

Some of the comments are saying the taxi was stationary and the excavator backed into it. If that's the case, huge fail by the construction team.
I thought the same, then noticed the windscreen. It looks like it was impacted from the inside - possibly from his head from not wearing a seatbelt. If so, I am sure his cage is more than effectively rattled. Not sure if he took any valuable lessons away though.

From Rome?
No joke, they absolutely drive like this in Rome. Far worse in Naples. It is about who has the largest set of balls.

But seriously, there is no wonder why road rage is such an epidemic. I spend a lot of time on the road and drivers are not getting better. It won't change until we see more police presence and that is not happening anytime soon either.

Why can't the recording driver submit that video to the police. It doesn't have to result in charges. All the owner of the car has to do is come into the police station and explain the actions of two illegal turns, right into left and left into right.

The math: Save three minutes of driving in exchange for three hours of your day.
That's not how cops work. They may send a warning letter based on the video. Actually talking to or ticketing a driver based on a video is rare. On the plus side, the warning letter is visible in their system so when that person eventually gets pulled over, no mercy will be shown.

Proof of identity is lacking. If the police don't perform the stop, then the identity of the driver is in question. Can't charge if you can't make it over that hurdle.

Seriously, plate cover enforcement is a joke and temp plates should have a similar enforcement.

Also they could have had their plates stolen and the driver didn't notice.

Thought: If you couldn't afford insurance for your sweet blue Charger and stole a set of plates from another sweet blue Charger would an ALPR pick up the switch?

Never a problem when issuing a speed camera generated ticket ? Make the owner responsible for the actions of whoever is driving.
But that involves no points. Money only. Also, there's a standard to the type of camera and how it's used. Too many holes for enforcement.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. All of those tinted plate covers, and the ones that obscure 2+ inches around the entire plate, should be confiscated along with the plates, at the roadside. If you're using a tinted plate cover then there's really only one reason. if I can't read your plate from behind you, at a stop light, in broad daylight, then it's never going to be readable in less than ideal conditions.

Ditto red light camera.

It might wake a few people up about the extensive responsibilities of the car owner. Drivers get one time tickets. Owners get years of insurance hikes or claim denials in case of a crash if the driver wasn't qualified.

Own a house becomes used to own a house.
