Certainly appears to be asleep from the video. That slow drift without any kind of a correction is the tell tale. Medical issue or distracted there would likely be some movement up there. No brake lights at all rules out distracted for me. Would expect to see a small flash after the initial impact, even if for a moment.

Even if you had a massive heart attack or stroke that killed instantly, your body would slump forward onto the wheel and the truck would have darted much more suddenly. Very unlikely to just tip back in your seat, since most trucks have you stretched out forward a bit to reach the wheel.

Either way, a terrible uncessescary loss of life.
Immediate LOC would result in exactly what we saw. You don't magically slump in any direction from a stable position. If you had ever experienced LOC, you'd know. I have.

Not mc related. Dump truck driver guilty in fatal hwy 10 crash. Went to trial and presented no defense (didn't speak and had no representation). Maybe he was hoping cop wouldnt show? Overloaded, faulty brakes, faulty lights and more. Trial resumes late September (thats bleeping ridiculous).

Dump trucks seem to be a consistent menace on the roads. Overweight, speeding, blowing lights and signs, aggressive driving... All things I have witnessed myself, on multiple occasions.

IMO dump trucks are dirt taxis and have a similar motivation as the people ones, as many fares as possible at the least cost.

Does the shipper have any moral responsibility if his name isn’t on the truck?

Possibly the weight

A dump truck just got pinched where the driver had been on duty for 22 hours. Dirt in the day, asphalt at night. Cant be bothered to find the link. It was an opp tweet.

And many crooks. Buddy hired a dump company and instead of dirt they were taking material.

‘why you leaving already? That was one load?’
‘Excavator beeped’
Guy looks inside and it’s all the scrap metal and equipment from site.

Excavator operator and dump truck company owners were in on it.

Then he found a few of the drivers without Ontario drivers license, no truck license, no insurance, and just came in from southeast Asia a week prior.

Immediate LOC could result in what we saw, but not likely is what I am saying.

Class 8 trucks are not excatly a glass smooth ride like a car. That along with the outreached driving position would tend to make one fall forwards or to the side, since they are supporting their weight in part by their arms on the wheel or arm rest. Once you lose control of those muscles, only a miracle is going to keep you upright. Body drops one way or the other, and truck jerks. Whereas when a person falls asleep they tend to stay in the position they fell asleep in, hence the classic slow drift to oblivion.

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather the cause be some undetecable underlying medical issue rather than a lapse in proper judgment. Being in the trucking industry for years I have unfortunately seen that slow drift many times before.

I doubt there will be enough left of the driver for us to ever get a satisfying answer.

Whatever happened to trucker bennies?

I don't know how smart the fleet dashcams are. Do any start uploading upon detection of a crash? That would be the best chance for a view of driver issues. I have no idea if any of the fleets are actually setup like that.

I'm not in the industry, so I don't have any direct knowledge. Connected dashcams with their own SIM do exist but given how tight trucking companies like to run their budgets, I doubt that many have gone that route.

Two for one post from OPP in Caledon. Completely unrelated events.

"Roses are red, violets are blue, if your headlights change colours - it's tickets for you. "

Ahole driving a Tesla. Who would have expected that?

"Shortly after 10am on June 27, 2023, Caledon OPP responded to a collision on King Street, near Torbram Road, in Caledon. The incident involved a white SUV and a red Tesla driven by a male in his 20's. While out of their vehicle, the driver of the SUV was hit by the Tesla.
The Tesla failed to remain at the scene. The driver was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."

EDIT:
On the tesla front, I have seen lots of video of cameras released when the tesla gets hit. Cops have a time and location and afaik, every tesla has a gps and calls home often. Could police ask tesla for both the identity of the vehicle at that time and place and a copy of the camera data? It would be poetic justice if the Ahole was sunk by his own douchemobile.

I was going north on 27 this morning and there were two demolished cars and the usual assortments of 911 vehicles just south of Nobleton. I didn’t see it happen but hazard a guess that someone didn’t see the traffic light. An ambulance was just leaving and didn’t have lights or siren.

I don’t know if that’s a sign.

Highway 27 hasn’t been a relaxed drive for a while now. Two lane with driveways and simple cross roads

It's the Brampton effect expanding outwards to King and Caledon. Lot's of people being caught by Caledon OPP lately for doing stupid things.

Very poor police work. 2 on 1 (probably with more en route) and still can't apprehend thief.
Bad choice of wording in this one - "bust" would lead me to believe they caught suspect. lol

Well, it was a bust alright. Not the kind they like to advertise. This could easily cost a half million in damages, time off and investigation.
