The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Might still get away with it. I had IDSYM incident with a pizza delivery driver who had no insurance, and a suspended license. He plead poverty and got away with something like $1K in fines instead.

I saw him on the road again within a week of the incident, delivering again, while I barely able to walk. He dodged police for several weeks, when they kept trying to catch him at home.
Investigation revealed the driver had no insurance and was previously convicted earlier this year for No Insurance. Driver was charged and issued a court date.

If wishes came true..... The MV was then towed off our roadway with the driver handcuffed in the trunk.

More HTA 172 stupidity IMO. Why impound the car when it did nothing wrong. Impound the driver.

As far as the leniency goes, you can't get blood from a stone. The minimum could be $5 K or $5 million. Neither gets paid. Monetary fines are revenue generators, not deterrents.

You impound the car because it can't legally be driven, so they can't just call someone else to drive it away. It can't just be left at the roadside, as a liability issue.

Iirc to pick it up from impound you need proof of insurance or a tow truck. You cant just say time is up and drive it away.

Have it towed to a location of the owner's choice on his dime. Detain the driver based on facts 1) He blew over the limit or 2) Make riding dirty a mandatory detention.

If you're going to drive with a suspended license, driving a vehicle with an open exhaust, an insecure load and looking like a pile of crap is probably not the best idea.

Those are all facts with the possible exception of dangerous goods transport and the unsafe vehicle being checked by a licensed mechanic working to specifications. My last hazardous goods course was decades ago and the rules then were bit stretchable.

If the charges were judgement calls I could see the driver needing time to prepare for court. These are facts. We need a fast, within 24 hours, trial and a trap door to a cell. Since we are dealing with facts, judgments are not required. I don't care if he's a troubled person trying to get his life together.

The truck did have a license plate. It was being used as a patch in the floor. Only red ratchet straps are permitted to hold the axle to the frame. The green ones are for tie rods.

I particularly liked the load bearing license plate.

I don't often handle my camera while driving, but on this lonely stretch of road near Stouffville Rd and 48 I couldn't resist.

We often use the phrase "You can't fix stupid" and that worries me. Is it true or is no one trying to do anything about the underlying causes?

I understand the frustration but fortunately I have options younger people don't with regards to housing, income and transportation. I wouldn't want to start out today facing the housing, inflation, transportation and job conditions younger people are facing today. I don't have to shoot up a school or mall to vent.

Driving down Queensway in Mississauga yesterday a women in a minivan did a u-turn on a red light (stopped at the red, waited and then went). Total chaos for the people going through the intersection and those turning both left and right on the green.

The funny/sad part was, she was arm waving and all upset at the other drivers like she had the ROW!

You're allowed to do a U-turn at a red, but you DEFINITELY don't have the RoW.

Sadly, I doubt anyone is surprised. She will tell her friends and family how people tried to run her over.

Some people are completely oblivious to the world around them and the chaos they cause. I watched a co-worker pull out in front a a dump truck that locked up his brakes to avoid killing my co-worker. Co-worker's version of the story was the dumptruck was driving like a maniac and almost killed him. From watching it, truck was accelerating from a stop sign and maybe going 40 km/h and it was 100% co-workers fault.

You sure about that?

"Red light
(18) Every driver approaching a traffic control signal showing a circular red indication and facing the indication shall stop his or her vehicle and shall not proceed until a green indication is shown. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (18).
...
Exception – turn
(19) Despite subsection (18) and subject to subsection (14), a driver, after stopping his or her vehicle and yielding the right of way to traffic lawfully approaching so closely that to proceed would constitute an immediate hazard, may,

(a) turn to the right; or
(b) turn to the left from a one-way street into a one-way street,
without a green indication being shown. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (19)."

I was playing street hockey with my kid yesterday in front of the house. Car comes up from one of the feeder streets and has her right turn signal on. So we get off the road.

She goes left, so we go back to playing. She decides she went the wrong way (we're on a crescent so it doesn't actually matter), and then loops around and comes towards us. She stops 10ft away, and then hits the gas again with me and my kid in the road. I put my hands up like WTF? And she starts yelling to get off the road.

People are stupid.

Lived on a cul de sac. Neighbor had the city put a big no ball or hockey playing sign right in front of the house.

So the other kids played in the intersection up the street.

I love my kid playing ball hockey. Sometimes we get up to 7-8 kids all playing together with a few fathers chilling and having a beer.

I love it…until a slap shot takes out my car or house window. Usually try to keep them playing in front of the neighbours house.
