and thats exactly why that crash truck is there.
absorbed the impact so the stopped vehicles ahead and possibly workers out don't get taken out.

jesus people are stupid. that stretch of the 400 is terrible though.
Everyone i talk to hates the 400 and says its a terrible road. Having driven it a number of times, the only thing wrong with the road is the drivers trying to get places faster then their vehicle or traffic will allow them....

Yes, that is why the crash truck was there but there is soooo much wrong in that video.

First, there are procedures that need to be followed for any road work, especially for a live lane closure, which this had to be since the left shoulder is not wide enough for that crash truck. See OTM Book 7. That lane should have been blocked a half a kilometer before that work site since all work vehicles were stopped.

Second, the crash truck was too close to the workers. If that had of been a transport that hit him he would have been pushed into the workers ahead.

Third, this looks to me like none of this work was approved by the MTO since that crash truck doesnt have near enough barrels to have even attempted a closure of any kind (one barrel?).

The pickup didnt hit the crash truck square on, looks to have grazed the corner of the attenuator since the crash truck didnt move and the pickup kept going, looks to have tried to avoid at the last second. Who expects a truck to be sitting in lane one, arrow flashing or not, without some prior warning?. That crash truck driver and company are probably going to be in for a world of hurt if the MOT got involved.

It looked more like a breakdown or emergency stop maybe to collect debris and a crashtruck was brought along. They don't even have barrels or any signage set-up.
Planned work would have: A. been completed at a different time and/or B. like you said, had followed Book 7.

It looks like it would be a fight for sure, lots of questions: was the work necessary? did the truck driver leave adequate following distance, was he speeding?
No one expects a crash truck but what about if traffic was at a standstill in that lane?

Regardless, this section of the 400 needs to be addressed, the lack of shoulder on the left and proximity of the opposite direction makes it almost impossible to see in wet/slick weather at night due to the glare.

People drive like idiots as well.

17 yo, parents cayenne, peel, 103 over.

"The driver is likely only a few points away from having their licence suspended after this stunt."

G2 driver doesn't lose enough points to lose their license even after going 100kms over the limit? Wtf sort of backwards system are you people running here. No wonder the roads are so dangerous, there is no real punishment for bad driving.

I thought it was an automatic suspension if they got a ticket. That might be an age thing though.

once you pass 49 over nothing changes for points. 300 over is equal to 50 over (unless they give you a dangerous charge but those rarely stick).

There's pretty horrendous penalties to the owner of the vehicle, high insurance rates being not the least of them ... but in this case, I'm sure the parents are paying.

I sure wasn't driving the equivalent of a Porsche Cayenne when I was 17 years old. We all had hand-me-down old cars that could hardly get out of their own way. Mine was a gen 1 Honda Civic. K-klunkers and Chevy Citations and Ford Fairmonts were abundant.

I got my first speeding ticket when I had my G1. Driving with my dad. It was an obvious speed trap area now that I think back at it. Speed limit drops at the bottom of a long hill. My dad always told me to just put the car in Neutral in those situations, (which I learned afterwards isn't good)
Anyways, cop gave me a 15km/h over ticket. I paid it. I never heard anything from the Ministry. Maybe because no points?

The the biggest lesson I learned from that situation. Fight every ticket.

Just read back through the rules. Suspensions are for 6 demerits, one 4 demerit offense, or violating the license conditions e.g. Driving on the highway with a G1.

Edit: Don't tell my kid.

Another dump truck driver assuming his well-deserved position in this thread. Pushed a mini sideways up an on ramp onto the Gardiner (~500m).

Wow. Road rage or was the dumpy impaired?
I don't know. Either way, insurance is not going to like that guy. He got charged with something but I haven't seen what charge he got. There are a lot that could be applied and they are all big ones.

“I didn’t see him. Honest.”

It would be interesting to see a picture from the cab. You'd think you'd hear and or feel it even if it happened to be in a blind spot. As a start, the giant cloud behind you should have you looking around to figure out what is happening.

You can lose sight of an entire sedan at a traffic light in those things. If a mini cut him off real close I wouldn't be surprised he couldn't see it. Probably wouldn't slow the truck down too much either. Either way, **** driving all around

Mini was probably standing on his horn as well.
