TAFB gets a blipper!! (Moved from GTAM Trackday thread)

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

Lol Your pretty much right. Front straight im in 5th, gear down to second 1st turn ...get back up to 4th gear down second straight and then back to 2nd gear the rrst of the track and yhis thread has turned into sarcasm and bashing lol
The gearing on my bike is pretty retarded (thanks to the previous owner), -2/+1, so I might be shifting slightly more than a normal person :(

That's actually taller than what most would run on a superbike.

I'm running +2 -2 on my 2011 R1

Wow, that's CRAZY tall! Good highway fuel economy, lol. Why so tall? Were you ever getting close to the rev limiter in 6th on any track you've been on?

How do you like the crossplane? Running any YEC goodies?

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

Im +2 up on yhe front sprocket

P.s. Sorry for all my bad grammer ir spelling...im using a smart phone with touchscreen yhat isny so smart and for some reason on yhis forum (webpage) auto correct doesnt even work lol so my apologies

it's shorter gearing than yours, +2 in the rear, -2 in the front.

This is a full superbike build with all the YEC kit electronics.

Your kit ECU has an engine brake control system that essentially does what your throttle blip system does as well.

All the kit ECU's have this feature.

Wow, sounds like my gearing is totally *** backwards for the track :(

Good excuse to get some lighter sprockets I guess!

Ahhhh, I'm used to people writing front/rear so I thought you were +2/-2.

-2/+2, that's pretty crazy :)

What's the rev limiter at?

I'm using Flash-Tune, not YEC. It reduces the engine braking by about 30% through fuel and ignition timing, but if you try and dial any more than 30% out it just keeps the throttle applied slightly, to "fake" a reduction in engine braking. I tried it like that, pretty scary, just wants to drive away by itself!

I'm happy with 30% to start :)

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

Jamie, it sounds like you have WAY TOO MANY goodies on that bike to even want to take that out as your FIRST TRACK DAY BIKE! Sounds like you kbow what your talking about in mechanics and such for bikes but for a first time track rider, its a lil much. Like someone else said in this thread about newbs giving advice to other newbs (me and you) but for the 4 track days i have done, i feel bad for anyone who goes down and has a very pretty bike with street plastics and a lot of expenaive mods...eapecially first time out. Im not saying dont ride it. But seema like your putting a lot of effort in making your bike the fastest or best possible when u should be reading "twist of yhe wrist" or paying more attention to technique and rider skill. As Kieth Code would say "its the rider that makes yhe bike perform correctly, not thw.bike that makes the rider better" or sonething like that.

Being with Keith Code for the last 2 days this week, has been an eye opening experience.

It definately is the rider, and his skills that make the bike.

Of course. If I rode Rossi's Ducati you'd have to get a cherry picker to get me off the drag strip stands at TMP.. :)

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

Beginner group with big red X confirmed for Sept 2nd at TMP, and Intro to Track confirmed for Sept 1st! WOOT!

Can't wait :)

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

maybe we'll finally get a chance to see your much vaunted high-speed knee dragging skills and/or a sample of what it takes to travel (on average) 274 km/h on public roads. :lmao:

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

Already tried it out, works SWEET! I can bang down three gears and just dump the clutch even with the throttle closed and it rev matches perfect! WOOT!

It's hard for me to reply without being sarcastic but i'll try....

A triple downshift is a bad idea and you're asking for trouble. No auto-throttle-blippy gizmo, slipper clutch or rev limiter in the world is going to prevent a mechanical over-rev going from 5th to 2nd. Do the math, what RPM will the bike be at in 2nd gear at 200+ kph with your gearing? Probably a bit over 16,000rpm. Your valve train won't like that.

FWIW I have never even tried to learn how to blip the throttle on a race track, ever. Kawi put a slipper clutch in my bike so I use it. I have also never done more than one downshift at a time, ever. At zero throttle with the clutch in the rpms are falling. In the time it takes me to grab one gear then dump the clutch the RPMs might fall by a few thousand but in the time it would take to grab 3 gears the bike would be at ilde... then you're going to dump the clutch and let the slipper (and i guess you're fancy throttle blippy gizmo) try to cope with that? Compounded with a mechanical over rev? Recipe for disaster.

The gearing on my bike is pretty retarded (thanks to the previous owner), -2/+1, so I might be shifting slightly more than a normal person :(

-Jamie M.

The gearing on my 2004 10R Superbike was -2/+3. 2nd to 5th to 3rd on the front straight. Then 3rd to 4th to 2nd on the back straight. Then the entire infield in 2nd gear.

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

Not really sure why everyone is jumping on Jamie so hard though. Sure, there seems to be a lack of perspective on what is going to matter on the track and what isn't, but if he like gizmos and knows how to install them properly, then so what?

You should learn to walk before you run. The track is serious business, not XBox or PS3.

There is a risk of serious injury to yourself, or worse others due to your actions.

Thats the "so what"....

PS: You as in Jamie :)

Would you say the risk to injury is greater on the track then it is spanking it 250kph on the street?

Forget what you may do, or think you may do, on the street. When you **** up at the track it ALWAYS affects others. From the simplest of losing tracktime they've paid for while another riders mess is cleaned up. To the worst where another riders stupidity causes a crash involving innocent parties. **** happens, we all know that. The trick is to manage and minimise **** happening. And if you want to know where that process starts then have a look in the mirror. We're all responsible for ourselves at the track, but, by extension, we're also responsible for others. Don't forget that and you'll be fine.

If you're "spanking it 250kph" into a corner you have no real experience of then you get what you deserve wheter its at the track or not.

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

someone is going to be served up a big slice of "humble pie" at this coming track session.
