TAFB gets a blipper!! (Moved from GTAM Trackday thread)

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

Sounds good! If running it normal/clockwise watch out for the big bump on the exit of the last corner heading onto the straight!

-Jamie M.

Just out of curiosity Jamie, how many laps of experience do you have at TMP? You must have a few under your belt to know about the perils of this bump.

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

What does this device do? Use E.S.P. to match a riders self belief with his actual skill level?
Lol! When you kick it down a gear, as you're letting the clutch back out it rev matches the engine to your speed, so you can just bang bang bang down a few gears and dump the clutch out and it'll rev match for ya ;)

why not just buy a slipper clutch and learn how to ride properly?
Does my 07 R1 not come with a slipper clutch? My 08 R6 had one!?

I've never been on the track before. I was at TMP Aug 11th and 12th and watched riders almost highside off that bump going onto the straight. The only crashes (all three) were in turn 6.

It looks like a fun bump if you know it's there/if you're expecting it, but if you mess up your line once and it's the first time you've hit it, seems pretty scary!

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

so why do you need this device if you have zero experience?

Anyone worth their salt is spinning the tire across that bump with the front wheel in the air,,

Which device, the auto throttle blipper? Couple of reasons:

1. It was free.
2. I think it'd be safer for a noob to use it! If I banged it down a few gears and just dumped the clutch at 0 throttle I think I'd be in for a world of hurt, where as this device will make sure my rear stays happy! lol.

I think this device is more for noobs then it is for pro's ;)

I ordered a quick shifter too (just the sensor, my flashed ECU has the quick shifter hook up right on/in it). Why? Because it sounds bad-*** goin down the straight, that's why :)

If you can't rev match then I'd strongly suggest you practise at the track. Seriously. Forget the device and practise. It's a skill and it'll come in useful later on in your track life.

This is what annoys me about you Jamie. You may well be a fun guy to hang out with, I dunno. But you can't go around offering "advice" to another track newbie about a bump which, in many visits to TMP, i've never really noticed. And my lines and times are okay for a yellow group rider at TMP. My "advice". LISTEN to advice about TMP. Then ride the track, learn the track then LISTEN some more to some more advice. Don't give it for a long time.

I'll happily offer advice (if asked) to anyone who'll listen about Calabogie as I spend most of my track time riding there and lap at a decent consistent time. I'll also happily ask and LISTEN to advice from faster more senior riders than myself about Calabogie. Next week I'm off to Mosport, a track I've only ridden once before. I will be LISTENING to advice from many people who KNOW the track. You should try it.

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

^^ I can move pretty well around TMP and I have never come close to highsiding or noticing a bump out of the last turn. coming out of trun one however best advice is to get a stearing dampner, get the bike stood up early and gas it though the bumps....only way to make good time though there is to get on the power early

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

Hmmm ...

My roadrace bike has no ABS, no traction control, no automatic throttle blipping gizmo, no slipper clutch, no quick-shifter. Don't need it.

The ripple coming onto the front straight is not a problem if you have suspension that works.

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

Im still working on braking and rev matching jaimie. I am no good at it but i keep trying. Its a skill that hopefully i will learn over time and seat time. I am still a newb at the track with only 4 track days at tmp, and i jniw i got lots to learn. I have a lot of support though and take all the advice as good advice (bad or good lol) The only reason i have a fancy bike and stuff is because i got a great deal from mr.teal lol i couldnt pass it up. But im glad i did. So whoever sees me ...advice is always good lol i will take any! And Donovan, have fun travelling bro! U always gave me great advice! On and off track...thanks!

"I THINK" is a dangerous statement in this sport.

just go ride the bike, the device you're installing with do NOTHING for you.

Already tried it out, works SWEET! I can bang down three gears and just dump the clutch even with the throttle closed and it rev matches perfect! WOOT!

Just has some weird issue where if the bike is at idle, and I grab the front brake and pull in the clutch when in neutral, it disables my throttle from doing anything until I turn the bike off and back on (throws the check engine light).

Manufacturer said it's because of the flashed ECU, offsets the TPS voltages slightly and at idle if it tries to blip the throttle it pushes it past 100% which throws a code and disables the throttle. He's mailing me out a TPS tap wire with different resistor in it to correct the problem :)

Until that one day when you're flying at the speed of light and your gizmo decides to stop working lol

I wouldn't wanna be there to see that

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

If you banged down on gear at a time and dumped the clutch, you'd experience some tire slide... going in a straight line, it isn't harmful if you know not to freak out.

PS: Why are you downshifting 3X then dumping the clutch? That's just asking for a mis-shift or fake neutral.

Not trying to be discouraging.... but money towards something worth while such as tire warmers/generator/suspension as well as seat time would be money better spent.

But think of all the time saved by not having to worry about downshifting. On an R1 you'd downshift a TOTAL of 3 gears per lap.

Downshifting happens during hard braking. He wouldn't be saving any noticeable time at all. This device just makes it "easy"... but I wouldn't trust it. It wont' give you any hint on an upcoming malfunction. It will either work 100% or 0%.

If you're downshifting when not on the brakes, you probably lost count/phased out or screwed up your drive.

You guys haven't seen Jamie ride, don't worry, his 3 downshifts will be from 80 km/h to 40 km/hr

Lol Your pretty much right. Front straight im in 5th, gear down to second 1st turn ...get back up to 4th gear down second straight and then back to 2nd gear the rrst of the track and yhis thread has turned into sarcasm and bashing lol

Re: GTAM Trackday at TMP!!

This thread is entertaining as hell. Not really sure why everyone is jumping on Jamie so hard though. Sure, there seems to be a lack of perspective on what is going to matter on the track and what isn't, but if he like gizmos and knows how to install them properly, then so what?

I'm sure all of the rest of us have always constrained ourselves to bike mods that were 100% rational. Right?

As a person who also likes to geek out a bit on the mods, I can appreciate the guy's enthusiasm. And as track rider only in my second full season, I can also empathize with his excitement and lack of experience.

Be nice! Let people have fun in their own way. Useless toys can be part of the fun.
