Support from close circle/ friends?

My wife supports me 110%. I would ride anyway but it makes things easier between us. I've been riding since before we got together so she already knew what she was getting into. Things may have escalated way beyond what she thought they would at 16 but it's too late now lol.

Nothing wrong with a little spill over, hope you can keep it up. But seriously it's great to hear anecdotal evidence of people supporting each other especially in a married union where you have a binding contract with a significant other and a third party, family law. Back in the day this concept used to be taken for granted but you don't see enough of it any more. Grudgingly going along and threatening divorce doesn't meet the 100% threshold. What are good enticements these days? I know unconditional love only exists between parents and children and probably the dog.

Thanks but I am ok for that.
Do you have some winter riding gloves?
I have to fix the bearings in my scooter, the salt caused some issues.

1) Don't come to GTAM for relationship advice. That comes from people you genuinely know and respect and who can probably see both sides of the situation better.

2) There are exactly 10 GTAMers worth listening to otherwise. No names except Inreb. He gives it to you straight, like our highways.

3) Scooters are the best.

Thanks!
One day I will get a big bike inline 4 but right now sounds like too much power to handle.
I don't think I have the skills or courage to ride something like an Fz6 (seems to be a popular 600).

Right now it's fun passing all those 250's, 300's, 600's. I just whiz right by them on the street.
I put a big bore kit in my scoot so it moves, I can do a little wheelie too.
Good on gas also.

Scooters rock!

My close friends, they couldn't care less it seems and I couldn't care less about how little they care. They ask a small talk question and I give small talk answers and we carry on as we have for the last 20 years. We are getting together to watch the CSBK race and have some beers and pizza but most will make 0 effort to actually come out and watch at the track and I'm ok with it. I make 0 effort to come watch their men's league baseball games. It's a two way street.

That was funny, the men's league baseball games.
Perhaps consider their egos can't support what you are doing...they throw a ball around and hit it with a stick, how fast do they run...at best they throw a baseball at 100mph...meanwhile you are taking a corner that fast on a rocket.

They face getting jock itch or a pull groin:lmao:you face dismemberment or death.

Inline 4s are okay, as long as they're not detuned for the street. Otherwise pretty tractable in daily use under 6-8k. Regretted not trying an sv650 or drz400 instead, since I don't visit HTA speeds. Not my kind of neighbourhood, you know?

I have no problem getting free stuff, or giving stuff away. If I have something, I will let you know.

I've been with my husband 16 years, and he doesn't ride.

He hates it, but that is his problem. Short of me not riding nothing will make it better so I don't try. I give him my schedule for the season and he has to deal with it. When he gets snippy I ignore it. No other way to deal with this. I knew when I met him he didn't like this, and that it wasn't ever gonna change. Like I say, it's THEIR issue to get over. Or not

Damn, I had to let that digest for a minute

Damn son, that was deep!

I have a 10 year old car and a brand new bike.

Since i have a family, i need a car. But since i commute downtown and want some OTHER type of freedom when wifey is using the car.

Now pricing out a car of similar value would have gotten me an EVEN OLDER car (prolly 15years old) with insurance costs that wouldve been higher than the bike actually.

So not only did i want a bike but it made more sense for me to get one instead of a 2nd car. So i use it as my daily commuter to downtown, and use it to run errands (90% of my riding) and then 1 or 2 weekends in the month i get to joy ride for a full day or so and sometimes will have some joy rides late in the evening.

Gf was supportive a lot more in the beginning like the OP but she's just a tid bit less now. But hey, i'm the one paying for the vehicles and the insurance anyways so she can complain as much as she wants, but that's one thing i'll always have more
a) knowledge and expertise in
b) know-how
c) control due to me paying for them

My mom didn't know until i visited her (on the very first day that i got it) and parked it in her driveway to say hi, before going back to my place lol.
at that point all she could do was tell me to be safe and careful as she knows i'm stubborn ahaha

My dad who used to be a rider didn't make much fuss about it. And that's about it! So i guess my close ones and friends have been generally supportive of my decision.

Thanks for your input meme :) you're right that's their problem not ours

Cars don't give you status. Even the poor have cars.

Who cares what they think?

I get flack for having too many vehicles.

Then again, my gf supports me riding for the most part. Doesn't ride with me though. Doesn't like the crazy ideas I get about riding in the winter, lol.
"who cares what they think?" So true, just gonna be me and what I like; can't live for other people.

I didn't mean to use this forum to seek relationships advice (and sorry everyone if I did); was just talking in general including friends, family, relationships if anyone went through something similar as not everybody get us and our choices and how you guys deal with those remarks, comments, lack of support in certain case. But I get it that not everyone gets us and then again that's up to them to deal with it.

Agree with point 2

Neh ...still going to stick with bikes lol :p

@ LePhillou: thanks for your insight. It gives me some sort of perspective. I think bike is good when we're solo or we want to experience some sort of freedom but I guess in my case, a car would be handy if my gf and I do activities that would be more efficient using a car as oppose to a bike specially if she's not an avid rider. I can relate to your story a bit, I'm quite stubborn too and work downtown. Would wanna drive to my mom's place but she's 5 hours away but will send her pics and videos once I got the ride ?

I think due to the questions you've been asking we all assumed you were a young guy.
This.

For a while I have wondered if Flywheel and Inreb are one and the same. This post all but confirms it for me.
Also wondering who the other 9 are...
