Support from close circle/ friends?

A car is essential living in Canada. Unless you never leave downtown, which would be sad.

I agree with you here. If you live anywhere but right downtown and don't plan on leaving there 2/3's of the year, a car should have been your #1 priority.

Driving a car is essential. Owning one, not so much.

I'd say I got about 50% negative comments and 50% of them were envious when they learned I was getting a bike. Including my gf. She's looking at getting a ninja250 now. After a while all the haters have also turned envious. Lol so maybe they'll come around for ya man?

I understand it is pretty dangerous all and all, but so is sitting on the couch eating cheesies...so pick your poison I guess...

Well played. Take a possibly dangerous situation and compare it to a worst case scenerio. Heads I win tails you lose. I went for a ride today. The other option was to slit my wrists. I think I chose wisely.

I couldn't imagine living in Kingston, so it all evens out.

I've never lived in Kingston so i couldn't really tell you what it's like. But i have lived in Mississauga and that i can tell you is no way to live.

This is where i put it in first gear everyday. Lovely place to have a bike.

I'm with you on that. I could never live in Toronto or the GTA. I like living in a small town and being so near the good riding we do have in Ontario.
I also never lived in Kingston.

Just having him refer to "status" I could tell he may be from Markham? Doesn't matter but if you gf is concerned about your status for being with you she may not the right fit.
Either way give it time and people usually come around. If not you seem like a level headed guy and shouldn't have a hard time finding new friends/gf.

My concerns for OP problem is: you are a biker but you have no biker friends so is the GF isolating you from all your biker friends. That is one of the tools any extreme controller male or female uses to gain absolute control over your life, and they have the control experience to do it very in very subtle ways. I know from experience that when they gain control over one aspect of your life they move on to the next. Controllers don't love you they love control. Drop this one if you value your happiness

Life is much to short to worry about "status", and those that don't support you. Surround yourself now with like minded people, and be who you are. You've got to little time on earth to worry about what others think and feel. Worry about yourself, and you'll soon find you're surrounded by good people, who like you for who you are.

I'd admit car comes first. Bike comes second

If you want a bike and can afford it, go buy it. Let the chips fall where they may with the gf. Who cares if she breaks up with you? You're going to find that you want more time to ride anyway.
My wife rides. But she knew from the start, if the bikes go I go.

I have heated gear and I put on windscreen, grip deflectors, and knobby tires.

Are you one of those people that sit at Tim Hortons all day? It can't be just for the free internet, Obviously you found a way to steal your neighbors wifi signal at home.

In any case make sure you remember to wear your reflective construction vest, the roads are a dangerous place for scooter Bambi's.

No no Hi-Viz equipment sounds too pricey for you, reflective construction vests are cheap and you can pick one up at Giant Tiger. Much more on your level.

Oh yes Mcdonalds is your wifi spot. My mistake.
