Sub 1:20 TMP dudes feeling bored?

Just throwing this out there regarding your tire pressures. Have you checked your gauges accuracy? Last Pro6 event I was at, one of the guys grabbed 4 gauges from our pit area and everyone was out compared to the Pro6 master test gauge. The motion pro digital reads 2lbs low, some were 2lbs high. It's worth it to check and make note how many psi it's off if you are trying to get to an accurate pressure.
Suspension and tires go hand in hand.
One will kill the other.
Stock suspension is made by fisher price and not intended to perform on the track. Springs and oil and shims and crap are very minimal improvements.
Without race parts you'll never get to lines u want to and you'll never get on the gas or brakes u want to either.
Street tires are just that.
Ive found that when u put out the money on proper suspension and tires its an investment that saves you later on bodywork, pegs, levers, torn up tires and aches and pains.
Youll find that Riding quickly isn't a struggle anymore.

I used "skipping" to describe a more sudden slide, such as traction suddenly lost, the rear goes 1-2 feet to the outside and catches again.

1-2 feet would cross up your bars pretty good, and if sudden, could launch ya.
Is your rear susp setup? I've had the rear feel like it's wallowing but rather than it being the tire slipping, it ended up being suspension/rebound issues.

Ah so sliding, that makes a bit more sense now, was it happening under acceleration? Glad you got it worked out.

Yes, it was happening constantly under not so hard acceleration exiting corners (did not happen accidentally, but on almost every corner), which was ruining all traces of confidence. The 5 or so laps I did like that were around 1:35 a lap. As a contrast, with the higher pressure I was able to give it much much much more juice and the tire wouldn't budge at all, times immediately dropped to 1:24-1:25 as soon as I did one lap and noticed the disappearance of the problem! Really, the difference was so dramatic!

I never thought about that, always assumed my digital gauge is accurate. I guess as long as you find a good pressure on your own gauge, it's fine even it it's off. But yeah, I'd be interested to compare readings, thanks for mentioning this.

Luckily, I have it all on video, which I'll process later today after work and post here. I haven't watched it yet, but I am pretty sure this "skipping" will be very evident in the video.

"Skipping" would be more like a "chatter", you were sliding but it sounds more like "spinning the rear" than anything else.

Indeed hence my initial confusion.

Corsara it's good that the tire pressure bit helped. Definitely check it against another gauge and run the pressures you're being told to. When was the last time you adjusted your compression/rebound settings? if you dont have enough rebound damping or have too much compression damping the back tire will want to spin and spin. I mean you're always going to spin up the tire on a litre bike, but having the clickers in the right spot makes a drastic improvement to grip.

It may have felt like 1-2 feet out... but that is very unlikely!

how did you do this weekend at RACE?

Been playing with the knobs until a couple of trackdays ago, then I felt I like how the bike handles, so I stopped---it would be pointless to continue fiddling with that before I gain some more experience and be able to better feel and fine-tune it. Rear shock is stock crap, I want to furnish the bike with an Ohlins as soon as possible anyway (Elka doesn't make them for my bike).

Ok, it certainly "felt" like 1-2 feet, in reality---probably much less...

Fiddling is bad, adjusting is good. When i cant get the bike to hookup on exit i've had really good results with adding some damping to the rebound so the back isn't constantly trying to push. That being said the oil is probably a decade old in that shock so playing with fiddly knobs might make zero difference what so ever,

how did you do this weekend at RACE?

4th in AM 600 and 3rd in AM SBK. I need more seat time, started getting up to a good pace on Sunday. Riding a 600 is very different compared to my 1000 but the Competition Cycle 600 is starting to come together nicely.

Nice - I also ride Dave's GSXR1000 so much better than my 600. Probably because his suspension is so much better than mine..dunno, I just feel like at home on the CPRL1000.
