Small trailers?

A GTAM member actually reached out to me when they saw this thread and I picked it up.

Depending where you are located you’re welcome to come take a look at it before I break it down into pieces as I won’t need it for the next week or two. Dundas and Credit Woodlands area.

EDIT: when I checked UHAUL site they were only a week or two wait, if that.
Awsome, I'll DM you if needed :) - I've seen 2 on kijiji, some not responding.

Just saw the post above, will look into that!

out Ottawa way and never seen one before. $1400

Saw that one, after gas to get there in the F-150, I like the $750 folding ones listed above, messaged them, no reply yet. That would be under $1k with a trailer and the hitch installed, I can live with that!

Where did you manage to get the trailer from? I think I'll try and get one, got a quote to install a stealth hitch on the GTI, with a folding trailer, it may open up more possibilities down the road

i bought a few hitches from uhaul online and shipped to me. curtis hitch and wiring harness around 220 shipped and no tax

There are Curtis hitches on amazon for the GTI, $223 free shipping, though I called Safe pull trailer hitches in North york, and they can supply, install, give the 1" tp 2in ball adapter, do the wiring for a good rate. I don't want to take apart the car to do the wiring part personally

I saw a Golf with the U-Haul hitch, was nowhere near concealed, the bar stick out below, so I ruled that one out

maybe ur car is different but when i did mine(camry) all the wiring(plug type no wire splitting ) was done at the tail light , and ran 1 wire underneath the car to battery positive terminal.

Amazon price is too high. I picked up my Curt from Uhaul for 145.95 last fall (tax and shipping included). I never put wiring harnesses in VW's. I made a manually controlled box that is powered from the lighter that plugs into the trailer lights.

The ecohitch receiver appears to sit entirely above the curt receiver. A little more ground clearance is appreciated. The last car with a hitch hit when backing out of the inlaws driveway.

Only reason I’m not installing it myself on the Volt is because I need to rip off the bumper. I don’t trust myself with this process but maybe @PrivatePilot can comment how hard it was for him on his Gen1 Volt.

Ive seen concerns of Volts towing and welds coming apart but I highly doubt it would happen with less than 700lbs of weight to tow.

Is this the set that was mentioned in this thread earlier for being utter garbage?

No, these are the ones I ended up with after the others failed. You have to be creative how you mount them. I was in a rush and just wrapped tape around them and each axle. In fairness, Princess may very well have a better built set than the first one I tried that fits in the OEM location, but I just didn't feel like going through it again.

Sweet thanks @Relax ill try and buy them tonight. Just need to check the mounting.

EDIT: are the reviews correct about the bad wiring?

Thing is, that hitch alone is close $700... I don't plan to lower the GTI, so hopefully the Curt is okay

Called the HST Trailer place, trying to sort a price out. I like the foldable 4x8 size, in the future can use it to haul the T7 and KTM at the same time, or my dad can use it for other things, and stores upright in less than 2ft of space, wide.

It looks treacherous when you are riding that bike up that high in that narrow railing. And I won't always have 2 buddies to help me roll the bike on top of it. It's a 3-man trailer.
Instead of getting buddies to help why not power it up. I start the bike and walk it up under it's own power.

I had Uhaul install the hitch on my Roadtrek. They're prices are very good. I think they subsidize the hitch cost so you can rent a trailer.

i have used these on 3 trailers now. No problems. My current 5x10 two years outside. Finally the trailer side connector pin broke. Spliced in a better connector everything fine now.

The other ones will not be long enough. They are meant for a carrier not trailer. I have a set I never used if you want to try them. Just out in Oakville.

On the Gen2 there's the regular Curt/Uhaul (mostly the same) options which has a visible hitch bar at the back of the car. Simple, effective, pretty cheap. My BIL has that on his Volt and has pulled a 1500 trailer easily.

If the Ecohitch options for the gen2 are similar to the Gen1 options, the Ecohitch "invisi" bolts up behind the bumper and is completely invisible. The "stealth" (which is the version I have) bolts up more traditionally (and AFAIK doesn't require bumper removal) but unlike the Curt/UHaul options has a removable hitch box so it becomes invisible when not in use.

The weld issue was Gen1 only, and only then on people hauling a lot of weight with the Ecohitch "Invisi" hitch which bolts up to the bumper mounts which was a known weak spot on the gen1. Under 1000#, no issue. Heavier? It was problematic for a few people. Gen 2 however I don't think such issues existed anymore. That's the main reason I bought the "Stealth" model instead which bolts up to the subframe on both sides of the car - exponentially stronger mounting points.

The LED carrier light kit is more than long enough for TIAB. I've been using them for a couple years now and there's even a little excess that needs to be wrapped around the tongue.

They have at least 3 LED submersible versions that all pretty much look alike. I want to say it was the Powerfist that I got, but I can't remember. The one made by Blaser looks a little different and maybe based on the price it might be more durable?
