Small trailers?

Last edited:
Last time I tried to rent a trailer, their site didn’t let me get past a page if I didn’t choose some options. Frustrating as **** so I just called them and rented it over the phone.
I've found other sites like that. To get any details you have to put the item in your shopping cart, get the info and then delete the purchase. I like to walk in, point, say how much and leave either with or without the item.

And they're using grout or foam?
Hopefully grout. I've seen foam DIY stuff on YouTube and they obviously have a different opinion of foam that I do. I've done boat rebuilds and the waterproof (Snicker) foam is like lead. I can't imagine it lasting long through a few freeze thaw cycles.

5 straps total. But since they’re a bit longer I was able to get creative. The 5th (red) one was just hanging around and ‘couldn’t hurt’ type of thought.

We take the side roads so I stopped 3-4 times for a quick look. Zero movement or loosened strap. Now just to find some time to actually ride is the next challenge.
I got in the habit of double checked before leaving and a roadside check in a half hour. Additional roadside checks every hours or so after. The stretch is good as well and only takes a minute or two. Glance at the hitch / safety chains / plug, touch the tires and hubs for heat as I do the circle. I ping the ropes / straps as I go by. Four way flashers confirm lighting.

Funny you say that @nobbie48. Checked the trailer today and looks like the right turn signal burned out...FML.

Ya. Not going to fix it this weekend as the only CT is in Collingwood. I order some LED lights when I return as it’ll be a nice upgrade.

is the 4 pins connector plugged correctly?
One time I was in a hurry, and I didn’t realize that I had plugged the 4 pin connector for from the trailer to the vehicle’s connector dustcap lol. 😅

Hopefully that's all it is. If not, check the wiring to the contacts, and check that the contacts aren't bent too far inwards that they can't hold the bulb in place properly. I got tired of messing with them all the time, so I eventually changed them (but as mentioned, the similarly-looking LED kit I got from Princess was **** and the plastic broke within a couple hours on the highway). If it is just the bulb, I can look for where I stashed mine and you can have them as spares.

Thanks @Relax and @rakkaus . I think it’s a loose contact somewhere because they work on/off on the right hand side.

Will be going into the wiring this week to see, but if I replace it I’ll not get the PA one as I don’t want more issues.

Happy to say the trailer performed awesome on the weekend. Easy to unload, slightly tricky to load if the ground is uneven (due to bike wanting to roll backwards while connected to car for loading). Didn’t move/loosen an inch during the entire trip and highway seemed to be well behaved up to 120-125kph.

Where did you manage to get the trailer from? I think I'll try and get one, got a quote to install a stealth hitch on the GTI, with a folding trailer, it may open up more possibilities down the road

The proper euro stealth hitch? If so, that thing is awesome, but there is no way I am spending thousands on a hitch for a VW.

For those that haven't seen it.

Oh no, not that one, don't think it can be done with the rear diffuser on the GTI. There are a few options, one is a CURT and the EcoHitch, both you just see the hitch itself, the structure is concealed.

This is the CURT, and whoever this is, is from Ontario

I have a curt in a box I need to put on. The hitch being hidden is a blessing and a curse. You need to remove the bumper cover to install hitch. What a pain in the ass.

I was looking at that, and from what I can see online, that's how it needs to be done for the Golf R, though for the GTI it just bolts underneath. Either way, I found a company in the GTA that said they can install, even if it's easy, I don't want to deal with the wiring part myself. Only downside is, its over a month wait... I'll be looking for a foldable trailer in the meantime. I debated trading it in for a truck, however, none are even remotely as refined in feel, or as economical

A GTAM member actually reached out to me when they saw this thread and I picked it up.

Depending where you are located you’re welcome to come take a look at it before I break it down into pieces as I won’t need it for the next week or two. Dundas and Credit Woodlands area.

EDIT: when I checked UHAUL site they were only a week or two wait, if that.
