SIU investigation

#1: Never bad mouth someone who has passed away, it's disrespectful.
#2: Follow the rules of the roads, then you will not get in trouble. The rules are in place for a reason, if you think they are stupid, try living in a different country and see how much better it is for you.
#3: Running from police never ends well, there is always a high risk of injury to the public, officers and the runner.

The part that bothers me the most is the fact people here (Riders) are making comments like the "Gene Pool" comment. Just disgusting how riders will bash another rider who has passed. RIP.

What about trumped up/false charges?

#2 goes out the window.

So are the effects of death.

I'm ALL for contesting the outrageous laws and unnecessarily low speed limits, but you have to be thick to blame the low speed limits for this rider hitting an SUV.

We are blaming the laws for contributing to piss poor stupid *** decisions.

I agree with you grond1234, BEST post so far.

I know some people is saying its because of the stunt law or getting hefty tickets and possible impound that is causing the rider to try and run away but I actually think that it is because of the assumption or expectation that the police will not give chase once you start running and hit 150km/h on a 70km/h zone.

In light of the tragedy, besides talks of striking down the 'stunting laws' and putting a higher speed limit, etc... is there anything as riders we can all do and with the general public's help to prevent or at least try our best to stop this from continuing???

I noticed the rider is in his early 20s, its such a tragedy for someone so young.... lots of future he could of had. For his family, the hurt and suffering they are facing right now... its so sad.

I know a lot of people may not agree, but should we put a limit on young rider's eligibility to own higher CC sports bike?? for example 25 years or younger can only go up to 250cc. I don't know if this help at all... even for this particular situation, the rider on a 250cc bike may still try and outrun the police.

Also, there is this mentality that if someone is on a supersport bike, you should ride fast or you'll look like a 'p__ssy' for going at the speed limit or just slightly above it when you are on a R1 for example.

Perhaps better education to riders? As well as motorist on cars, how they interact with motorcycles especially with the growing number of riders out there. As part of the car licensing process, perhaps incorporate some form of education in the cirriculum that would enhance car driver sensitivity to motorcyle riders or even bicycle riders when they are driving.

I really have no idea what we need to do, but we DEFINTELY need to do something to reduce these types of preventable fatalities!!!!

Deepest condolence to the rider and his family.

RIP

First - RIP to the rider - no ones deserves to die just for running even if they shouldn't

Second - Apologies and sympathy to the involved SUV driver - it is a horrible thing to be part of and live with even if you did not cause it

Third - The above Reg is merely an amended version of the old reg (to cover interprovicial policing) and the old reg is subject to and continues to be subject to a Ministry order that police shall not pursue motorcycles. This has been taught at the Police College and Services for well over 15 years. They can try to pull you over but if its clear your runing they can't pursue. The reason is it puts you at too high a risk to crash and die or kill someone else - just like what happened here!

Fourth - That does not mean the police can not try to stop you. If they pull out and light you up and you run they will not chase once it is clear you are running i.e accelerating like a bandit, high speed swerving in and out of traffic etc. This may take a few secs since so many people don't seem to notice the police trying to stop them - that is what likely happened here. The rider ran - hit the SUV a short distance away and the police were not chasing - had merely lighted him up. Because the police were involved the SIU has to be contacted. Heck they had to be contacted when a bike ran into a stopped cruiser blocking traffic with its lights on - police did nothing but be a target for the rider who somehow didn't see the car with all the lights on

Fifth - Don't run - just like its not if you will go down its when you will go down - if you run eventually you will get hurt or killed or hurt or kill someone else all of which is more serious then the stunt charge or whatever you may otherwise be facing

RIP Rider

A valid thought. I would suggest not by age, but restrict by class of license.

I would suggest both. Young people and large bikes aren't a good mix, class m or not. Older people can be bad as well but typically younger are worse.

sue the cop, you know you could do that right?

not saying its gonna be cheap or easy but its doable.

no, i had no idea about that. i was told the law was written to prevent people from doing just that (getting compensation for the offence if not found guilty of it).

Since there is so much corruption lately, the court has wisely allowed us to seek compensation for the illegal actions of certain rogue pirates.
http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2..._police_complaints_and_sue_police_forces.html

that's a good first step, but iirc, HTA172 was specifically written in a way to prevent people from being able to seeking compensation for the tow, impound or suspension, despite what a court found at trial.

I'm hoping someone takes the legal challenge and fights that portion of the law (well, fighting the whole law would do just as well)

Who said anything about a chase? Maybe the rider ran a speed trap. I have except I didn't run into an SUV.

You're right, there was no chase. It was a speed trap with cop outside the vehicle.

Easy fix for that - don't drive like a manic, and you shouldn't have a problem.

  • Chirp your tires pulling away from a light - HTA 172 violation, lose your ride, do not pass GO, etc.
  • Lift your wheel an inch or two (which happens even on traction controlled sport bikes when pulling away with any throttle at all - HTA 172 violation, lose your ride, do not pass GO, etc.
  • Lift your butt out of the seat to stretch your legs -HTA 172 violation, lose your ride, do not pass GO, etc.
  • pass someone driving slowly = marked difference in speed - HTA 172 violation, lose your ride, do not pass GO, etc.
  • Lane split at a stop light - HTA 172 violation, lose your ride, do not pass GO, etc.
  • Etc. You should get the point. You are likely breaking HTA 172 just by throwing a leg over your bike.

Please tell us where these places are and when?
Unless you booting it to Thunderbay every weekend I got to hear this.

OPP speed traps abound around Thunderbay, FYI.

My balls aren't big enough to pull a wheelie on my wheelie capable 750. So yeah, give me that ****ing stone.

See my first point, above. You break HTA 172 for a lot more than wheelies.

    Law makes peopke.
I had a suv beside me and a sunfire behind me.
(traffic flow of 105 is in an 80 north of orangeville)
Suv signal beside me and cross the line, im going for the ditch.
I clicked down and cleared the suv by about 50 ft and sloweed back to 100.
Brakes = hit from behind and run ovet (sunfire right behind)
Stay in the spot = seconds left before im side swiprd (soft gravel/ditch)
Pulling over when i seen thr opp at 100kmh = 172a, susp, fines, impound cost me $2000
Almost lost my job/house so they can offer me 49 over as soon as i walk into court.
That was the last time i pulled over! get run over, almost lose everything becausr of some punk cop, i now pass on both.
Without 172a, or at least a chance in court first, i would pull over every time.

Exactly. I'd think twice before pulling over for anything. You never know for what you will be hit with the HTA 172 sledge hammer.

I'm sorry but did we all forget that cops are not aloud to chase bikes ?
This is why SIU is involved
    RIP

    Bull crap.This is misinformation.
SIU is involved because death resulted in an action involving police. Cops can chase bikes all day long. And do.

RIP rider. Those with no sympathy can go pound salt.

If you even wave you can be charged.
It states both hands and both feet must remain on bars/pegs.
People are too stupid that this can, has, and will be used as a catch all for the Police.
