Sikhs must wear helmets

One reason would be the precedent that was set by two other provinces that took up this issue. If no one ever voiced an opinion contrary to a law or custom imagine the world we would live in.

You know in the other thread you Anthem thread you called someone out for doing just that.

You do not deserve to live in such a country.
I cannot stand ungrateful people who always find something to complain about rather than something to be grateful for.

That's not a valid reason. I've already stated why.

Any other reasons you can think of?

That's a pretty solid reason in my opinion. I don't see where you addressed it but I don't think it matters. We have different opinions and I'm OK with that.

Big difference, one issue is taking away freedom because of one or more religions and one is gaining a freedom which I totally agree with and would like that freedom for myself.

I think you might have misunderstood that other thread there was no talk of taking away a freedom. Just altering a national document to be more inclusive. But again to quote you

If no one ever voiced an opinion contrary to a law or custom imagine the world we would live in.

It's taking away the freedom to keep our cultural heritage intact.

A we saying culture is immutable? The anthem has already changed more than once.

Also if you are going to look at like that then you are blocking the freedom to change cultural heritage.

Certainly not and it is changing rapidly. But there are certain things considered immutable and for most I think the national anthem would be one of those things.

But it was already changed multiple times..so i don't think it is.

Hopefully I have now demonstrated (if it wasn't clear already) that you've come unarmed to an intellectual gun fight.

I like wearing cowboy hats, helmets interfere with my wearing of cowboy hats. I think that me and all other cowboy hat wearing people should not have to wear helmets.

That is all.

I see where you are going and I disagree. Having immigrants come here and want to change our national anthem or cover their face for a driver's license photo is too much too soon and a refusal to assimilate. I don't see how eliminating the requirement to wear a helmet on a motorcycle under a 60 km speed limit would alter our cultural identity.

First of all the counsellor who is trying to change the anthem is not doing it for religious reasons. She wants it to be more Gender neutral as the anthem was originally written so her status of her being a legal immigrant has nothing to do what she is asking. Also there are plenty of had suggested the same thing such as Margaret Atwood. So conflating immigration with that issue is not required.

The other issues such as Burkas on ID cards and Turbans and motorcycles are questions of if its a reasonable religious accommodation. Good secular arguments I feel can be made for both not being allowed in Ontario. However I will concede that i would be okay for anyone to not wear a helmet given the additional insurance premiums to cover additional medical expenses should they Arise.

My non mainstream fabricated hypothetical religion says that my kids must not go to school. Can I be exempt from the law?

I'm a Rastafarian and smoke **** tonnes of pot. Why can't I be exempt from the law?

My religion doesn't want me to pay taxes or go to work because it offends the god of labour. Can I be exempt from the law?

I must *Insert illegal activity here* in the name of *insert God here* (must be mainstream or else they don't take you seriously)
^^the standard formula of so called "religious freedom"

Hell why stop at religious freedom, let's move on to ideological freedom. My KKK uniform (not being srs) gets in the way of my helmet, can I be exempt from the law?

Yes you can homeschool your kids..no to the rest.
I'm not being serious here. I'm pointing out the double standard in all of this nonsense. A mainstream religion gets special rights over other not so mainstream religions. Ie the satirical pastafarians who try to wear strainers on their head to prove a point.

I'm also trying to show the god damn absurdity in all of this.

I know you point your trying to make. But there is also a need in our society for reasonable Religious accommodation so i don't know if the question is absurd just if the current Ban grounds for a reasonable accommodation. Currently I don't feel it is.

To your point of ideological exceptions we already have them in-place somewhat for example Anti-vaccination parents.

I say this as a religious person myself, because of all this **** I see and all this nonsense because no one knows how to keep their personal beliefs personal; more and more I can't wait until the world becomes completely secularized.

Then there won't be a need for accommodation.

Sure there will! secularization does not preclude the need for reasonable religious accommodations. It only states that all religions get treated equally when considering them. There are plenty of religious secularists out there. In the US the have the lemon test specifically for this.

Maybe I worded my post a little to nicely so I'll put it in a more extreme way. I long for the day religion becomes abolished on a worldwide scale and actual reason takes over. Maybe then and only then is when we will be a little less deluded as a human race. Religion is nice, it can offer values etc. but it has for a long time been perverted to the point where people are deluded to believe that taking your turban off for 3 hours or not going to church on Sunday or not being involved in an arranged marriage will condemn you for eternity. To me, that isn't a life guided by reason. That's a life deluded in coercion, fear and a false sense of reality.

Also there's a fine line between beliefs and culture. Believe what you want, that's fine, if motorcycling laws gets in the way of your culture then don't partake in motorcycling. Simple. Many Muslims don't partake in drinking or smoking and are doing fine without it. Sikhs should try something called abstinence, because if they took their religion this seriously (to the point you want to change Canadian law) then riding a motorcycle is out of the question for you.
