Sikhs must wear helmets

First of all the counsellor who is trying to change the anthem is not doing it for religious reasons. She wants it to be more Gender neutral as the anthem was originally written so her status of her being a legal immigrant has nothing to do what she is asking. Also there are plenty of had suggested the same thing such as Margaret Atwood. So conflating immigration with that issue is not required.

The other issues such as Burkas on ID cards and Turbans and motorcycles are questions of if its a reasonable religious accommodation. Good secular arguments I feel can be made for both not being allowed in Ontario. However I will concede that i would be okay for anyone to not wear a helmet given the additional insurance premiums to cover additional medical expenses should they Arise.

As far as the national anthem I was replying to the comments made in that thread.

As far as religious accommodation I am for riding a motorcycle without a helmet under 60 km per hr., and very strongly against wearing a burka at any time in public let alone photos for government ID.

We can argue about this all day but that's how I feel.

Boots- I think that the day when religion is outlawed entirely is on it's way sooner than most expect. Religion is a very dangerous thing in the wrong hands.

I already told you that there is nothing in a Sikh's religion that would forbid the wearing a helmet over their turban. That's why this whole thing is BS. These few are misrepresenting their religion because they simply want to ride without a helmet.

Do I need to tell you that again?

I know you were replying to that thread but it was contradictory to what you were saying here.

But honestly I don't care what your opinions are on them. Im interested in the reasons you hold those positions.

I'm an Atheist and I hope not. There is no indications that the outlawing of religion is even being considered anywhere but North Korea and some other Communist places

There are some very bad things about religious beliefs:
  • The need to denegrate other faiths.
  • The belief that one faith is the 'correct' one and all others are wrong.
  • The repetition of 'facts' supporting a dogma which are little more than slogans.
  • The blind adherence to a faith or dogma due to lack of critical thinking/open mindedness.
  • Willfully ignoring anything good about any other beliefs.
  • Adopting an air of moral/intellectual superiority because of one's faith.
  • Segregating oneself from others who hold different beliefs.
And all of the above apply just as equally to aetheists who feel obliged to attack religion as they do to religions which attack each other.

So what your saying is...some people are ********..

Your predictions are right up there with Blue Kawi's

That is an insult. Let's pick this up again in one year.
It may take longer but it will be more visible by then at the least.
The stage is set. What will be the response to the next lg. scale terror attack?
Terror is a religion that cannot be tolerated.

Who really cares about the Kirpans? Why?
I see them all the time... and have never thought twice about it.

Has there ever been an incident involving one?
I don't know but I can't recall ever hearing about one.

Actually there was a stabbing with a kirpan in Brampton outside a temple

Yes it was - thanks for grasping that. Looking forward to it - in a year give me a heads-up on whatever your username will be at that point. Thanks !
